Hadith 277

Hakeem bin Qais bin Asim narrated that his father (i.e., Qais bin Asim) advised his children at the time of his death, saying: Fear Allah, and appoint the eldest among you as your leader. When the people of a community appoint their elder as their leader, he acts as a deputy for their father. But when they appoint the younger as their leader, this is considered blameworthy among their peers. Make earning wealth and mastering its skills essential for yourselves. This is a cause of honor and fame for a noble person, and through this wealth, one can avoid dependence on a lowly person. Avoid asking from people; this is the lowest form of earning for a person (it is the last resort for sustenance). When I die, do not wail over me. Lamentation was not done at the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I die, bury me in any land, and do not let Bakr bin Wa'il know about my burial, because I used to ignore them during the days of ignorance.
