It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "No child has spoken in the cradle except ‘Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) and the child of Jurayj." The people asked: O Prophet of Allah! Who is the child of Jurayj? He said: "Jurayj was a devout worshipper and a monk, and he was in his place of worship. A cowherd used to stay at night beneath his place of worship. A woman from among the people of that village used to come and go to that cowherd. One day, Jurayj’s mother came to him and said: O Jurayj! And he was praying. Jurayj thought to himself while he was praying: My mother is calling me and I am praying. He thought to himself to give preference to his prayer. Then she called out to him again. He thought: My mother is calling me and I am praying, so he decided to give preference to his prayer. Then for the third time she called out. Again he thought: My mother is calling me and I am praying. He decided to give preference to his prayer. When Jurayj did not answer his mother, she said: O Jurayj! May Allah not let you die until you have faced immoral women. Then she went away. That (village) woman was brought to the king, and she had given birth to a child. The king asked: Whose boy is this? She said: Jurayj’s. The king said: The one who stays in the place of worship? She said: Yes. The king ordered: Demolish Jurayj’s place of worship and bring him to me. The people attacked his place of worship with axes until it fell down. They tied his hands to his neck with ropes. Then he was brought. He was made to pass by the immoral women, and when he saw them, he smiled, and they were looking at him among the people. The king said (to Jurayj): (Do you know) what this woman is saying? He said: What is she saying? He said: She is saying that this child is from you. He said to the woman: Are you saying this? She said: Yes. Jurayj said: Where is the little child? They said: He is in her lap. So he turned towards him and asked the child: Who is your father? The child said: The cowherd. The king said: Shall I have your place of worship built of gold? Jurayj said: No. He said: Of silver? He said: No. He said: What shall we build it of? He said: Build it as it was. The king said: What was the reason that you smiled? Jurayj said: It was a matter that I knew. My mother’s supplication against me had reached me. Then he narrated the whole story to the people."
