Hadith 186

186/248 عن معاوية قال: سمعت من النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم كلاماً نفعني الله به؛ سمعته يقول- أو قال- : سمعتُ رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " إنك إذا اتبعت الريبة في الناس أفسدتهم"(2). فإني لا أتبع الريبة فيهم فأفسدهم.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: I heard a statement from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from which Allah benefited me. I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying, or he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "When you seek out people's faults, you will corrupt them." I do not seek out their faults lest I corrupt them.
