Hadith 140

Ma’rur bin Suwaid says: I saw Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he was wearing a cloak and his slave was also wearing a cloak. (In another narration: he had a garment and his slave had a cloak, so we said: If you took this and gave him something else, this would become your cloak.) We asked him the reason for this, so he said: I had abused a man. He complained about me to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me: “Did you insult his mother?” I said: Yes. So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Indeed, your brothers are your servants. Allah has placed them under your authority. So whoever has his brother under his authority, he should feed him with what he eats himself, and clothe him with what he wears himself, and do not burden them with work that is beyond their capacity. If you do assign them a task that is beyond their capacity, then help them with it.”
