Hadith 14

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Darda’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) advised me regarding nine things. They are: Even if you are cut into pieces or burned, do not associate anything with Allah; never deliberately abandon the obligatory prayer, for whoever deliberately abandons it, the protection (of Allah and His Messenger) is lifted from him; never drink alcohol, for it is the key to every evil; obey your parents, even if they command you to give up your worldly possessions (meaning, hand over all your belongings to them), then do so for their sake; do not dispute with the rulers, even if you think you are entitled (i.e., you alone are upon the truth); never flee from the battlefield, even if you are killed and your companions flee; spend on your family from your wealth; do not withhold your stick from your family (meaning, maintain the disciplinary rod for their upbringing); and keep warning them about Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
