Sahifah Hammam ibn Munabbih

And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “The Angel of Death came to Musa, peace be upon him, and said: Fulfill the command of your Lord (i.e., surrender your soul to the Creator). Upon this, Musa, peace be upon him, struck the angel on the eye and gouged out his eye. The angel returned to the presence of Allah and said: Indeed, You have sent me to a servant of Yours who does not want to die, and he has gouged out my eye. So Allah restored his eye and said: Go back to My servant and say to him: Do you wish to remain alive? If you truly wish to remain alive, then place your hand on the back of an ox; for every hair your hand covers, you will live one year for each hair. Musa, peace be upon him, asked: Then what will happen? The angel said: Then you will die. Musa, peace be upon him, said: Then it is better that I die now. Then he prayed: O my Lord! Bring me close to the Holy Land by the distance of a stone’s throw.” (Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, says that) the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “If I were there, I would certainly show you the grave of Musa, peace be upon him, which is by the side of the road near a red sand hill.”
