Creation of Adam (peace be upon him) and the Manner of Greeting
Hadith 59
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَلَقَ اللَّهُ آدَمَ عَلَى صُورَتِهِ، طُولُهُ سِتُّونَ ذِرَاعًا، فَلَمَّا خَلَقَهُ قَالَ : اذْهَبْ فَسَلِّمْ عَلَى أُولَئِكَ النَّفَرِ، وَهُمْ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْمَلائِكَةِ جُلُوسٌ، فَاسْتَمِعْ مَا يُحَيُّونَكَ، فَإِنَّهَا تَحِيَّتُكَ وَتَحِيَّةُ ذُرِّيَّتِكَ، قَالَ : فَذَهَبَ، فَقَالَ : السَّلامُ عَلَيْكُمْ، فَقَالُوا : وَعَلَيْكَ السَّلامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ، فَزَادُوا : وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ، قَالَ : فَكُلُّ مَنْ يَدْخُلِ الْجَنَّةَ عَلَى صُورَةِ آدَمَ طُولُهُ سِتُّونَ ذِرَاعًا، فَلَمْ يَزَلِ الْخَلْقُ يَنْقُصُ بَعْدُ حَتَّى الآنَ "
And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah Almighty created Adam, peace be upon him, in his image; his height was sixty cubits. So when Allah Almighty had created him, He commanded him: Go to that group, meaning the group of angels who were sitting there, greet them with salam, and listen carefully to the words they say in reply to your salam, for that will be your way of greeting and the way of your descendants." He, peace be upon him, said: "Then he went and said to the angels «السلام علیکم», and they replied «وعلیکم السلام ورحمة اللہ», and the angels added «ورحمة اللہ» in their reply." He, peace be upon him, said: "Every person who enters Paradise will be in the form of Adam, peace be upon him; his height will be sixty cubits. Since then, the stature of mankind has been decreasing continuously."
