Hadith 32
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ذَرُونِي مَا تَرَكْتُكُمْ، فَإِنَّمَا هَلَكَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ بِسُؤَالِهِمْ وَاخْتِلافِهِمْ عَلَى أَنْبِيَائِهِمْ، فَإِذَا نَهَيْتُكُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ، وَإِذَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ بِأَمْرٍ فَأْتُوا مِنْهُ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ "
And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When I leave you (regarding something), then leave me (i.e., do not interfere unnecessarily in matters about which I show indifference). Indeed, the previous nations among you were destroyed because of their (unnecessary) questioning and their disagreements with their prophets. Therefore, when I forbid you from something, then avoid it, and when I command you to do something, then do it to the best of your ability."
