Hadith 730
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، عَنْ تَطَوُّعِهِ ، فَقَالَتْ : " كَانَ يُصَلِّي فِي بَيْتِي ، قَبْلَ الظُّهْرِ أَرْبَعًا ، ثُمَّ يَخْرُجُ فَيُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ ، ثُمَّ يَدْخُلُ فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَكَانَ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ الْمَغْرِبَ ، ثُمَّ يَدْخُلُ فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَيُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ الْعِشَاءَ ، وَيَدْخُلُ بَيْتِي فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، وَكَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ تِسْعَ رَكَعَاتٍ ، فِيهِنَّ الْوِتْرُ ، وَكَانَ يُصَلِّي لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا قَائِمًا ، وَلَيْلًا طَوِيلًا قَاعِدًا ، وَكَانَ إِذَا قَرَأَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ، رَكَعَ وَسَجَدَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ، وَإِذَا قَرَأَ قَاعِدًا رَكَعَ وَسَجَدَ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ ، وَكَانَ إِذَا طَلَعَ الْفَجْرُ ، صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ " .
'Abdullah bin Shaqiq said: I asked 'A'isha about the Messenger of Allah's (ﷺ) voluntary prayers, and she replied: Before the noon prayer, he used to pray four rak'ahs in my house; then would go out and lead the people in prayer; then come in and pray two rak'ahs. He would then lead the people in the sunset prayer; then come in and pray two rak'ahs. Then he would lead the people in the 'Isha' prayer, and enter my house and pray two rak'ahs. He would pray nine rak'ahs during the night, including Witr. At night he would pray for a long time standing and for a long time sitting, and when he recited the Holy Qur'an while standing, he would bow and prostrate himself from the standing position, and when he recited while sitting, he would bow and prostrate himself from the sitting position, and when it was dawn he would pray two rak'ahs.
Hadith 730
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَأَلْنَا عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " يُكْثِرُ الصَّلَاةَ قَائِمًا ، وَقَاعِدًا ، فَإِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ قَائِمًا رَكَعَ قَائِمًا ، وَإِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ قَاعِدًا رَكَعَ قَاعِدًا " .
'Abdullah bin Shaqiq al-'Uqaili reported: I asked 'A'isha about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . She said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would observe prayer (Nafl) in a standing position as well as in a sitting position, and when he commenced the prayer in a standing position, he bowed in this very position, and when he commenced the prayer in a sitting position, he bowed in this very position.
Hadith 731
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم ، " كَانَ يُصَلِّي جَالِسًا ، فَيَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ ، فَإِذَا بَقِيَ مِنْ قِرَاءَتِهِ قَدْرُ مَا يَكُونُ ثَلَاثِينَ ، أَوْ أَرْبَعِينَ آيَةً ، قَامَ فَقَرَأَ وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ ، ثُمَّ رَكَعَ ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ، ثُمَّ يَفْعَلُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray while sitting (when he grew old) and he recited in this position and when the recitation equal to thirty or forty verses was left, he would then stand up and recite (for this duration) in a standing position and then bowed himself and then prostrated himself and did the same in the second rak'ah.
Hadith 732
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ " هَلْ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ ؟ قَالَتْ : نَعَمْ ، بَعْدَ مَا حَطَمَهُ النَّاسُ " .
'Abdullah bin Shaqiq reported: I asked 'A'isha whether the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) observed (Nafl) sitting. She said: Yes, when the people had made him old.
Hadith 733
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ السَّائِبِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ أَبِي وَدَاعَةَ السَّهْمِيِّ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : " مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي سُبْحَتِهِ قَاعِدًا ، حَتَّى كَانَ قَبْلَ وَفَاتِهِ بِعَامٍ ، فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي فِي سُبْحَتِهِ قَاعِدًا ، وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِالسُّورَةِ فَيُرَتِّلُهَا حَتَّى تَكُونَ أَطْوَلَ مِنْ أَطْوَلَ مِنْهَا " .
Hafsa reported: Never did I see the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observing supererogatory prayer sitting till one year before his death when he would observe Nafl prayer in a sitting position, and he would recite the Surah (of the Qur'an) in such a slow-measured tone (that duration of its recital) became more lengthy than the one longer than this.
Hadith 736
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " كَانَ يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ، يُوتِرُ مِنْهَا بِوَاحِدَةٍ ، فَإِذَا فَرَغَ مِنْهَا ، اضْطَجَعَ عَلَى شِقِّهِ الأَيْمَنِ ، حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ ، فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ " .
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to pray eleven rak'ahs at night, observing the Witr with a single rak'ah, and when he had finished them, he lay down on his right side, till the Mu'adhdhin came to him and he (the Holy Prophet) then observed two short rak'ahs (of Sunan of the dawn prayer).
Hadith 738
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عَائِشَةَ ، كَيْفَ كَانَتْ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي رَمَضَانَ ؟ قَالَتْ : " مَا كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَزِيدُ فِي رَمَضَانَ ، وَلَا فِي غَيْرِهِ عَلَى إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً ، يُصَلِّي أَرْبَعًا ، فَلَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْ حُسْنِهِنَّ وَطُولِهِنَّ ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي أَرْبَعًا ، فَلَا تَسْأَلْ عَنْ حُسْنِهِنَّ وَطُولِهِنَّ ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي ثَلَاثًا " ، فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَتَنَامُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُوتِرَ ؟ فَقَالَ : يَا عَائِشَةُ ، إِنَّ عَيْنَيَّ تَنَامَانِ ، وَلَا يَنَامُ قَلْبِي .
Abu Salama bin Abdul Rahman asked 'A'isha about the (night) prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) during the month of Ramadan. She said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not observe either in Ramadan or in other months more than eleven rak'ahs (of the night prayer). He (in the first instance) observed four rak'ahs. Ask not about their excellence and their length (i. e. these were matchless in perfection and length). He again observed four rak'ahs, and ask not about their excellence and their length. He would then observe three rak'ahs (of the Witr prayer). 'A'isha again said: I said: Messenger of Allah, do you sleep before observing the Witr prayer? He said: O 'A'isha, my eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep.
Hadith 739
وحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاق . ح وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ الأَسْوَدَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ عَمَّا حَدَّثَتْهُ عَائِشَةُ ، عَنْ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَتِ : " كَانَ يَنَامُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَيُحْيِ آخِرَهُ ، ثُمَّ إِنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ ، قَضَى حَاجَتَهُ ثُمَّ يَنَامُ ، فَإِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ النِّدَاءِ الأَوَّلِ ، قَالَتِ : وَثَبَ ، وَلَا وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتِ ، قَامَ فَأَفَاضَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ ، وَلَا وَاللَّهِ مَا قَالَتِ ، اغْتَسَلَ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ مَا تُرِيدُ ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ جُنُبًا ، تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَ الرَّجُلِ لِلصَّلَاةِ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ " .
'A'isha thus reported about the (night prayer) of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) : He used to sleep in the early part of the night, and woke up in the latter part. If he then wished intercourse with his wife, he satisfied his desire, and then went to sleep; and when the first call to prayer was made he jumped up (by Allah, she, i. e. 'A'isha, did not say "he stood up" ), and poured water over him (by Allah she, i. e. 'A'isha, did not say that he took a bath but I know what she meant) and if he did not have an intercourse, he performed ablution, just as a man performs ablution for prayer and then observed two rak'ahs.
Hadith 745
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ وَاسْمُهُ وَاقِدٌ وَلَقَبُهُ وَقْدَانُ . ح ، وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " مِنْ كُلِّ اللَّيْلِ قَدْ أَوْتَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَانْتَهَى وِتْرُهُ إِلَى السَّحَرِ " .
'A'isha reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) observed the Witr prayer every night and he completed Witr at the time of dawn.
Hadith 749
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " صَلَاةُ اللَّيْلِ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى ، فَإِذَا خَشِيَ أَحَدُكُمُ الصُّبْحَ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً وَاحِدَةً ، تُوتِرُ لَهُ مَا قَدْ صَلَّى " .
Ibn 'Umar reported that a person asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about the night prayer. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Prayer during the night should consist of pairs of rak'ahs, but if one of you fears morning is near, he should pray one rak'ah which will make his prayer an odd number for him.
Hadith 758
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الله الْأَغَرّ ، وَعَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " يَنْزِلُ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا حِينَ يَبْقَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرُ ، فَيَقُولُ : مَنْ يَدْعُونِي فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ ؟ وَمَنْ يَسْأَلُنِي فَأُعْطِيَهُ ؟ وَمَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُنِي فَأَغْفِرَ لَهُ ؟ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Our Lord, the Blessed and the Exalted, descends every night to the lowest heaven when one-third of the latter part of the night is left, and says: Who supplicates Me so that I may answer him? Who asks Me so that I may give to him? Who asks Me forgiveness so that I may forgive him?
Hadith 759
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ قَامَ رَمَضَانَ ، إِيمَانًا ، وَاحْتِسَابًا ، غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who observed prayer at night during Ramadan, because of faith and seeking his reward from Allah, his previous sins would be forgiven.
Hadith 761
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " صَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، فَصَلَّى بِصَلَاتِهِ نَاسٌ ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى مِنَ الْقَابِلَةِ فَكَثُرَ النَّاسُ ، ثُمَّ اجْتَمَعُوا مِنَ اللَّيْلَةِ الثَّالِثَةِ أَوِ الرَّابِعَةِ ، فَلَمْ يَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ ، قَالَ : قَدْ رَأَيْتُ الَّذِي صَنَعْتُمْ ، فَلَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي مِنَ الْخُرُوجِ إِلَيْكُمْ ، إِلَّا أَنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ تُفْرَضَ عَلَيْكُمْ ، قَالَ : وَذَلِكَ فِي رَمَضَانَ " .
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayed one night in the mosque and people also prayed along with him. He then prayed on the following night and there were many persons. Then on the third or fourth night (many people) gathered there, but the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not come out to them (for leading the Tarawih prayer). When it was morning he said: I saw what you were doing, but I desisted to come to you (and lead the prayer) for I feared that this prayer might become obligatory for you. (He the narrator) said: It was the month of Ramadan.
Hadith 763
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّهُ بَاتَ لَيْلَةً عِنْدَ مَيْمُونَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَهِيَ خَالَتُهُ ، قَالَ : فَاضْطَجَعْتُ فِي عَرْضِ الْوِسَادَةِ ، وَاضْطَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَهْلُهُ فِي طُولِهَا ، فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى انْتَصَفَ اللَّيْلُ أَوْ قَبْلَهُ بِقَلِيلٍ أَوْ بَعْدَهُ بِقَلِيلٍ ، اسْتَيْقَظَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَجَعَلَ يَمْسَحُ النَّوْمَ عَنْ وَجْهِهِ بِيَدِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ الْعَشْرَ الآيَاتِ الْخَوَاتِمَ مِنْ سُورَةِ آلِ عِمْرَانَ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى شَنٍّ مُعَلَّقَةٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ مِنْهَا فَأَحْسَنَ وُضُوءَهُ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى ، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : فَقُمْتُ فَصَنَعْتُ مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، ثُمَّ ذَهَبْتُ فَقُمْتُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ ، فَوَضَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى رَأْسِي ، وَأَخَذَ بِأُذُنِي الْيُمْنَى يَفْتِلُهَا ، " فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ أَوْتَرَ ، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ حَتَّى جَاءَ الْمُؤَذِّنُ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَصَلَّى الصُّبْحَ " .
Kuraib, the freed slave of Ibn 'Abbas, reported that Ibn 'Abbas narrated to him that he spent a night in the house of Maimuna, the mother of the believers, who was his mother's sister. I lay down across the cushion, whereas the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his wife lay down on it length-wise. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) slept up till midnight, or a little before midnight of a little after midnight, and then got up and began to cast off the effects of sleep from his face by rubbing with his hand, and then recited the ten concluding verses of Surah 'Imran. He then stood up near a hanging water-skin and performed ablution well, and then stood up and prayed, 'Ibn 'Abbas said: I also stood up and did the same, as the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had done, and then went to him and stood by his side. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) placed his right hand upon my head and took hold of my right ear and twisted it, and then observed a pair of rak'ahs, again a pair of rak'ahs, again a pair of rak'ahs, again a pair of rak'ahs, again a pair of rak'ahs, again a pair of rak'ahs, and then observed Witr and then lay down till the Mu'adhdhin came to him. He (the Holy Prophet) then stood up and observed two short rak'ahs, and then went out (to the mosque) and observed the dawn prayer.
Hadith 767
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هُشَيْمٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حُرَّةَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " إِذَا قَامَ مِنِ اللَّيْلِ لِيُصَلِّيَ ، افْتَتَحَ صَلَاتَهُ بِرَكْعَتَيْنِ خَفِيفَتَيْنِ " .
'A'isha reported that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up at night to pray, he began his prayer with two short rak'ahs.
Hadith 789
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا مَثَلُ صَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ كَمَثَلِ الإِبِلِ الْمُعَقَّلَةِ ، إِنْ عَاهَدَ عَلَيْهَا أَمْسَكَهَا ، وَإِنْ أَطْلَقَهَا ذَهَبَتْ " ،
'Abdullah bin 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The example of a man who has memorised the Qur'an is like that of a hobbled camel. If he remained vigilant, he would be able to retain it (with him), and if he loosened the hobbled camel it would escape.
Hadith 790
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : تَعَاهَدُوا هَذِهِ الْمَصَاحِفَ ، وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ : الْقُرْآنَ ، فَلَهُوَ أَشَدُّ تَفَصِّيًا مِنْ صُدُورِ الرِّجَالِ ، مِنَ النَّعَمِ ، مِنْ عُقُلِهِ ، قَالَ : وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَقُلْ أَحَدُكُمْ نَسِيتُ آيَةَ كَيْتَ وَكَيْتَ ، بَلْ هُوَ نُسِّيَ " .
'Abdullah is reported to have said: Keep refreshing your knowledge of the sacred books (or always renew your knowledge of these sacred books) and sometimes he would mention the Qur'an for it is more apt to escape from men's minds than animals which are hobbled, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: None of you should say: I forgot such and such a verse, but he has been made to forget.
Hadith 795
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاق ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَجُلٌ ، يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْكَهْفِ وَعِنْدَهُ فَرَسٌ مَرْبُوطٌ بِشَطَنَيْنِ ، فَتَغَشَّتْهُ سَحَابَةٌ فَجَعَلَتْ تَدُورُ وَتَدْنُو ، وَجَعَلَ فَرَسُهُ يَنْفِرُ مِنْهَا ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ ، أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ : تِلْكَ السَّكِينَةُ تَنَزَّلَتْ لِلْقُرْآنِ " .
Al-Bara' reported that a person was reciting Surat al-Kahf and there was a horse tied with two ropes at his side, a cloud overshadowed him, and as it began to come nearer and nearer his horse began to take fright from it. He went and mentioned that to the Prophet (ﷺ) in the morning, and he (the Holy Prophet) said: That was tranquility which came down at the recitation of the Qur'an.
Hadith 818
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيِّ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَؤُهَا ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْرَأَنِيهَا ، فَكِدْتُ أَنْ أَعْجَلَ عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ أَمْهَلْتُهُ حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ ، ثُمَّ لَبَّبْتُهُ بِرِدَائِهِ ، فَجِئْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ هَذَا ، " يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَأْتَنِيهَا ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَرْسِلْهُ اقْرَأْ ، فَقَرَأَ الْقِرَاءَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي : اقْرَأْ ، فَقَرَأْتُ ، فَقَالَ : هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ، إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ ، فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ " .
'Umar bin Khattab said: I heard Hisham bin Hakim bin Hizam reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from that in which I used to recite it, and in which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had taught me to recite it. I was about to dispute with him (on this style) but I delayed till he had finished that (the recitation). Then I caught hold of his cloak and brought him to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, I heard this man reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from the one in which you taught me to recite. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) told (me) to leave him alone and asked him to recite. He then recited in the style in which I beard him recite it. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then said: Thus was it sent down. He then told me to recite and I recited it, and he said: Thus was it sent down. The Qur'an was sent down in seven dialects. So recite what seems easy there from.
Hadith 825
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَبَّانَ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " نَهَى عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ ، حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ ، وَعَنِ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الصُّبْحِ ، حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) is reported to have said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prohibited to observe prayer after the 'Asr prayer till the sun is set, and after the dawn till the sun rises.
Hadith 828
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يَتَحَرَّى أَحَدُكُمْ فَيُصَلِّيَ عِنْدَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ ، وَلَا عِنْدَ غُرُوبِهَا " .
Ibn 'Umar reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Let not any one of you intend to observe prayer at the time of the rising of the sun or of the setting sun.
Hadith 831
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُلَيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ ، يَقُولُ : " ثَلَاثُ سَاعَاتٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَنْهَانَا أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فِيهِنَّ ، أَوْ أَنْ نَقْبُرَ فِيهِنَّ مَوْتَانَا : حِينَ تَطْلُعُ الشَّمْسُ بَازِغَةً حَتَّى تَرْتَفِعَ ، وَحِينَ يَقُومُ قَائِمُ الظَّهِيرَةِ حَتَّى تَمِيلَ الشَّمْسُ ، وَحِينَ تَضَيَّفُ الشَّمْسُ لِلْغُرُوبِ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ " .
Uqba bin 'Amir said: There were the times at which Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade us to pray, or bury our dead: When the sun begins to rise till it is fully up, when the sun is at its height at midday till it passes over the meridian, and when the sun draws near to setting till it sets.
Hadith 842
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ رُومَانَ ، عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ خَوَّاتٍ ، عَمَّنْ صَلَّى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ ذَاتِ الرِّقَاعِ صَلَاةَ الْخَوْفِ ، " أَنَّ طَائِفَةً صَفَّتْ مَعَهُ وَطَائِفَةٌ وِجَاهَ الْعَدُوِّ ، فَصَلَّى بِالَّذِينَ مَعَهُ رَكْعَةً ، ثُمَّ ثَبَتَ قَائِمًا وَأَتَمُّوا لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ ، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفُوا فَصَفُّوا وِجَاهَ الْعَدُوِّ ، وَجَاءَتِ الطَّائِفَةُ الْأُخْرَى ، فَصَلَّى بِهِمُ الرَّكْعَةَ الَّتِي بَقِيَتْ ثُمَّ ثَبَتَ جَالِسًا وَأَتَمُّوا لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ بِهِمْ " .
Yazid bin Ruman told on the authority of Salih bin Khawwat on the authority of one who prayed in time of danger with Allah's Messenger (may peace he upon him) at the Battle of Dhat ar-Riqa' that a group formed a row and prayed along with him, and a group faced the enemy. He led the group which was along with him in a rak'ah, then remained standing while they finished the prayer by themselves. Then they departed and formed a row facing the enemy. Then the second group came and he led them in the remaining rak'ah, after which he remained seated while they finished the prayer themselves. He then led them in salutation.
Hadith 844
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ ، ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْجُمُعَةَ فَلْيَغْتَسِلْ " .
Abdullah is reported to have heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you intends to come for Jumu'a prayer, he should take a bath.
Hadith 846
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " الْغُسْلُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ وَاجِبٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُحْتَلِمٍ " .
Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Taking a bath on Friday is essential for every adult person.
Hadith 852
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، فَقَالَ : " فِيهِ سَاعَةٌ لَا يُوَافِقُهَا عَبْدٌ مُسْلِمٌ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي ، يَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ شَيْئًا إِلَّا أَعْطَاهُ إِيَّاهُ " . زَادَ قُتَيْبَةُ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ : وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ يُقَلِّلُهَا .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: There is a time on Friday at which no Muslim servant would pray and would ask Allah for a thing (that is good) but He would give it to him. Qutaiba pointed with the help of his hand that it (the time) is short.
Hadith 850
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ .
This hadith has been narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA) through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 857
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كَريْب ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ لآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْجُمُعَةَ فَاسْتَمَعَ وَأَنْصَتَ ، غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَزِيَادَةُ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ، وَمَنْ مَسَّ الْحَصَى فَقَدْ لَغَا " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who performed ablution well, then came to Friday prayer, listened (to the sermon), kept silence, all (his sins) between that time and the next Friday would be forgiven with three days extra, and he who touched pebbles caused an interruption.
Hadith 859
وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ سَهْلٍ ، قَالَ : " مَا كُنَّا ، نَقِيلُ وَلَا نَتَغَدَّى ، إِلَّا بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ " . زَادَ ابْنُ حُجْرٍ : فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Sahl bin Said said: We did not have a siesta or lunch till after the Friday prayer. (Ibn Hujr added: )" During the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) ."
Hadith 860
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَإسحاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الْمُحَارِبِيِّ ، عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : " كُنَّا نُجَمِّعُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا زَالَتِ الشَّمْسُ ، ثُمَّ نَرْجِعُ نَتَتَبَّعُ الْفَيْءَ " .
Iyas bin Salama bin al-Akwa' reported on the authority of his father: We used to observe the Friday prayer with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when the sun passed the meridian. and we then returned and tried to find out afternoon shadow (of the walls for protecting themselves from the heat of the sun).
Hadith 862
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَحَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " كَانَتْ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خُطْبَتَانِ ، يَجْلِسُ بَيْنَهُمَا يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ ، وَيُذَكِّرُ النَّاسَ " .
Jabir bin ahadeeth said: The Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) gave two sermons between which he sat, recited the Qur'an and exhorted the people.
Hadith 862
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، قَالَ : أَنْبَأَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ سَمُرَةَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَانَ يَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا ، ثُمَّ يَجْلِسُ ، ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيَخْطُبُ قَائِمًا ، فَمَنْ نَبَّأَكَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَخْطُبُ جَالِسًا فَقَدْ كَذَبَ ، فَقَدْ وَاللَّهِ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ أَلْفَيْ صَلَاةٍ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah (RA) said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to deliver the sermon while standing. He would then sit down and then stand up and address in a standing posture; and whoever informed you that he (the Holy Prophet) delivered the sermon while sitting told a lie. By Allah. I prayed with him more than two thousand times
Hadith 878
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَإسحاق ، جميعا ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ مَوْلَى النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، عَنْ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وَفِي الْجُمُعَةِ بِ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ ، قَالَ : وَإِذَا اجْتَمَعَ الْعِيدُ وَالْجُمُعَةُ فِي يَوْمٍ وَاحِدٍ يَقْرَأُ بِهِمَا أَيْضًا فِي الصَّلَاتَيْنِ " .
Nu'man bin Bashir reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite on two 'Ids and in Friday prayer:" Glorify The name of Thy Lord, the Most High" (Surah lxxxvii.), and:" Has there come to thee the news of the overwhelming event" (lxxxviii.). And when the 'Id and Jumu'a combined on a day he recited these two (surah) in both the prayers.
Hadith 881
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا صَلَّى أَحَدُكُمُ الْجُمُعَةَ ، فَلْيُصَلِّ بَعْدَهَا أَرْبَعًا " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When any one of you observes the Jumu'a prayer (two obligatory rak'ahs in congregation), he should observe four (rak'ahs) afterwards.
Hadith 882
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى الْجُمُعَةَ انْصَرَفَ ، فَسَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ فِي بَيْتِهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ ذَلِكَ " .
Nafi' reported that when 'Abdullah (b. 'Umar) observed the Friday prayer and came back he observed two rak'ahs in his house, and then said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to do this.
Hadith 882
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ وَصَفَ تَطَوُّعَ صَلَاةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " فَكَانَ لَا يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ ، فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فِي بَيْتِهِ " ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَظُنُّنِي قَرَأْتُ " فَيُصَلِّي أَوْ أَلْبَتَّةَ " .
'Abdullah bin 'Umar, while describing the Nafl prayer of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) , said: He did not observe (Nafl) prayer after Jumu'a till he went back and observed two rak'ahs in his house. Yahya said: I guess that I uttered these words (before Imam Malik) that he of course observed (them).
Hadith 887
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَحَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : " صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعِيدَيْنِ غَيْرَ مَرَّةٍ وَلَا مَرَّتَيْنِ بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَلَا إِقَامَةٍ " .
Jabir bin ahadeeth said: I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prayers on two I'ds more than once or twice without there being Adhan and Iqama.
Hadith 890
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كُنَّا نُؤْمَرُ بِالْخُرُوجِ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ وَالْمُخَبَّأَةُ وَالْبِكْرُ ، قَالَتْ : الْحُيَّضُ يَخْرُجْنَ فَيَكُنَّ خَلْفَ النَّاسِ يُكَبِّرْنَ مَعَ النَّاسِ " .
Umm Atiyya reported: We were commanded to bring out on old days purdah-observing ladies and those unmarried, and menstruating women came out but remained behind people and pronounced takbir (Allah-o-Akbar) along with them.
Hadith 891
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ الْمَازِنِيِّ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، سَأَلَ أَبَا وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيَّ ، " مَا كَانَ يَقْرَأُ بِهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْأَضْحَى وَالْفِطْرِ ؟ " فَقَالَ : " كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِيهِمَا بِ ق وَالْقُرْآنِ الْمَجِيدِ وَاقْتَرَبَتِ السَّاعَةُ وَانْشَقَّ الْقَمَرُ " .
'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) reported that (his father) 'Umar (RA) bin Khattab asked Abu Waqid al-Laithi what the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to recite on 'Id-ul-Adha and 'Id-ul-Fitr. He said: He used to recite in them:" Qaf. By the Glorious Qur'an" (Surah 1)," The Hour drew near, and the moon was rent asunder" (Surah liv.).
Hadith 892
وحَدَّثَنَاه يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ : " وَفِيهِ جَارِيَتَانِ تَلْعَبَانِ بِدُفٍّ " .
This hadith has been narrated by Hisham with the same chain of transmitters, but there the words are:" Two girls were playing upon a tambourine."
