Hadith 1044
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ وَاقِدٍ وَهُوَ : ابْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ، عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنْ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، أَنَّهُ ذُكِرَ الْقِيَامُ فِي الْجَنَائِزِ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ : قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ " . وَفِي الْبَاب : عَنْ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : حَدِيثُ عَلِيٍّ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ، وَفِيهِ رِوَايَةُ أَرْبَعَةٍ مِنَ التَّابِعِينَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَنْ بَعْضٍ ، وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ ، قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ : وَهَذَا أَصَحُّ شَيْءٍ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ ، وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ نَاسِخٌ لِلْأَوَّلِ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا ، وقَالَ أَحْمَدُ : إِنْ شَاءَ قَامَ وَإِنْ شَاءَ لَمْ يَقُمْ ، وَاحْتَجَّ بِأَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ قَامَ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ ، وَهَكَذَا قَالَ : إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : مَعْنَى قَوْلِ عَلِيٍّ : قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْجَنَازَةِ ثُمَّ قَعَدَ ، يَقُولُ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا رَأَى الْجَنَازَةَ قَامَ ثُمَّ تَرَكَ ذَلِكَ بَعْدُ فَكَانَ لَا يَقُومُ إِذَا رَأَى الْجَنَازَةَ " .
It is narrated from Ali bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, that when the matter of standing for the funeral until it is placed down was mentioned to him, Ali said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to stand, then he began to sit.

1- The hadith of Ali is Hasan Sahih (good and authentic).
2- In it, there are four Tabi‘in narrating from each other.
3- Shafi‘i says: This is the most authentic narration in this chapter. This hadith abrogates the first hadith: "When you see a funeral, stand up."
4- In this chapter, hadiths have also come from Hasan bin Ali and Ibn Abbas.
5- Some people of knowledge act upon this.
6- Ahmad says: If one wishes, he may stand, and if he wishes, he may not stand. They have taken evidence from the fact that it is narrated about the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he used to stand, then he began to sit. Similarly, this is also the saying of Ishaq bin Ibrahim bin Rahwayh.
7- The meaning of the statement of Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, (The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to stand for the funeral, then he began to sit) is that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he saw a funeral, he would stand, then later he refrained from this. When he saw a funeral, he would not stand.

Hadith 1723
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَمَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، حَدَّثَنَا وَاقِدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ، قَالَ : " قَدِمَ أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ أَنْتَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : أَنَا وَاقِدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ ، قَالَ : فَبَكَى ، وَقَالَ : إِنَّكَ لَشَبِيهٌ بِسَعْدٍ ، وَإِنَّ سَعْدًا كَانَ مِنْ أَعْظَمِ النَّاسِ وَأَطْوَلِهِمْ ، وَإِنَّهُ بُعِثَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جُبَّةٌ مِنْ دِيبَاجٍ مَنْسُوجٌ فِيهَا الذَّهَبُ ، فَلَبِسَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَصَعِدَ الْمِنْبَرَ فَقَامَ أَوْ قَعَدَ ، فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَلْمِسُونَهَا ، فَقَالُوا : مَا رَأَيْنَا كَالْيَوْمِ ثَوْبًا قَطُّ ، فَقَالَ : " أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ هَذِهِ ؟ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِمَّا تَرَوْنَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَاب ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh says that Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us, so I went to him. He asked: Who are you? I said: I am Waqid bin Amr bin Sa’d bin Mu’adh (may Allah be pleased with him). Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep and said: You resemble Sa’d. Sa’d was very tall and long. A silk cloak with gold embroidery was sent to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He wore it and ascended the pulpit, whether standing or sitting, and the people touched it and said: We have never seen a garment like this before. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Are you amazed at this? In Paradise, Sa’d’s handkerchiefs are far better than what you are seeing.” __REF_ Imam Tirmidhi says:
