Hadith 94
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ وَاصِلٍ الأَحْدَبِ ، عَنِ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " أَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ، فَبَشَّرَنِي أَنَّهُ مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ ، لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا ، دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ " ، قُلْتُ : وَإِنْ زَنَى ، وَإِنْ سَرَقَ ، قَالَ : وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ " .
I heard Abu Dharr (RA) narrating it from the Apostle (ﷺ) that he observed: Gabriel (ؑ) came to me and gave me the tidings: Verily he who died amongst your Ummah without associating anything with Allah would enter Paradise. I (the narrator) said: Even if he committed adultery and theft. He (the Holy Prophet) said: (Yes), even if he committed adultery and theft.
Hadith 105
حَدَّثَنِي شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَسْمَاءَ الضُّبَعِيُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيٌّ وَهُوَ ابْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ الأَحْدَبُ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا يَنُمُّ الْحَدِيثَ ، فَقَالَ حُذَيْفَةُ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " لَا يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ نَمَّامٌ " .
It is reported from Hudhaifa that news reached him (the Holy Prophet) that a certain man carried tales. Upon this Hudhaifa remarked: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying: The tale-bearer shall not enter Paradise.
Hadith 288
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَر ٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ مَهْدِيِّ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ، عَنْ وَاصِلٍ الأَحْدَبِ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاق بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ وَمُغِيرَةَ ، كل هؤلاء ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، فِي حَتِّ الْمَنِيِّ مِنْ ثَوْبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ .
Qutaiba bin Sa'id, Ishaq bin Ibrahim, Ibn Abi 'Aruba, Abu Ma'shar, Abu Bakr (RA) bin Abu Shaiba, Mansur and Mughira have all transmitted from Ibrahim, who transmitted it on the authority of A'isha's narration pertaining to the scraping off of the (drop) of semen from the garment of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) like the hadith of Khalid on the authority of Abu Ma'shar.
Hadith 372
وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ ، عَنْ وَاصِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لَقِيَهُ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ ، فَحَادَ عَنْهُ ، فَاغْتَسَلَ ، ثُمَّ جَاءَ ، فَقَالَ : كُنْتُ جُنُبًا ، قَالَ : إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ لَا يَنْجُسُ " .
Hudhaifa reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) happened to meet him and he was (sexually) defiled, and he slipped away and took a bath and then came and said: I was (sexually) defiled. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) remarked: A Muslim is never defiled.
Hadith 822
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مَهْدِيُّ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ الأَحْدَبُ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : غَدَوْنَا عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ يَوْمًا بَعْدَ مَا صَلَّيْنَا الْغَدَاة ، فَسَلَّمْنَا بِالْبَابِ ، فَأَذِنَ لَنَا ، قَالَ : فَمَكَثْنَا بِالْبَابِ هُنَيَّةً ، قَالَ : فَخَرَجَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ ، فَقَالَتْ : أَلَا تَدْخُلُونَ ؟ فَدَخَلْنَا فَإِذَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ يُسَبِّحُ ، فَقَالَ : مَا مَنَعَكُمْ أَنْ تَدْخُلُوا وَقَدْ أُذِنَ لَكُمْ ؟ فَقُلْنَا : لَا ، إِلَّا أَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَنَّ بَعْضَ أَهْلِ الْبَيْتِ نَائِمٌ ، قَالَ : ظَنَنْتُمْ بِآلِ ابْنِ أُمِّ عَبْدٍ غَفْلَةً ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ يُسَبِّحُ ، حَتَّى ظَنَّ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ قَدْ طَلَعَتْ ، فَقَالَ : يَا جَارِيَةُ ، انْظُرِي هَلْ طَلَعَتْ ؟ قَالَ : فَنَظَرَتْ فَإِذَا هِيَ لَمْ تَطْلُعْ ، فَأَقْبَلَ يُسَبِّحُ حَتَّى إِذَا ظَنَّ أَنَّ الشَّمْسَ قَدْ طَلَعَتْ ، قَالَ : يَا جَارِيَةُ ، انْظُرِي هَلْ طَلَعَتْ ؟ فَنَظَرَتْ فَإِذَا هِيَ قَدْ طَلَعَتْ ، فَقَالَ : الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَقَالَنَا يَوْمَنَا هَذَا ، فَقَالَ : مَهْدِيٌّ وَأَحْسِبُهُ ، قَالَ : وَلَمْ يُهْلِكْنَا بِذُنُوبِنَا ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ الْبَارِحَةَ كُلَّهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : هَذًّا كَهَذِّ الشِّعْرِ ، إِنَّا لَقَدْ سَمِعْنَا الْقَرَائِنَ ، وَإِنِّي لَأَحْفَظُ الْقَرَائِنَ الَّتِي كَانَ يَقْرَؤُهُنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، " ثَمَانِيَةَ عَشَرَ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ، وَسُورَتَيْنِ مِنْ آلِ ، حم " .
Abu Wa'il reported: One day we went to 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud after we had observed the dawn prayer and we paid salutation at the door. He permitted us to enter, but we stayed for a while at the door, when the slave-girl came out and said: Why don't you come in? So we went in and (we found 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud) sitting and glorifying Allah (i. e. he was busy in dhikr) and he said: What obstructed you from coming in though you had been granted permission for it? We said: There was nothing (behind it) but we entertained the idea that some inmate of the house might be sleeping. He said: Do you presume any idleness on the part of the family of Ibn Umm 'Abd (the mother of 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud)? He was again busy with the glorification of Allah till he thought that the sun had risen. He said: Girl, see whether (the sun) has arisen. She glanced but it had not risen (by that time). He was again busy with the glorification (of Allah) and he (again) thought that the sun had arisen. She glanced (and confirmed) that, it had risen. Upon this he ('Abdullah bin Mas'ud) said: Praise be to Allah Who did not call us to account for our sins today. Mahdi said: I think that he said, He did not destroy us for our sins. One among the people said: I recited all the mufassal surahs during the night. 'Abdullah said: (You must have recited them) like the (recitation) of poetry. I heard (the Holy Prophet) combining (the sarahs) and I remember the combinations which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) made In the recitation (of surahs). These were constituted of eighteen mufassal surahs and two surahs (commencing with) Ha-Mim.
Hadith 869
حَدَّثَنِي سُرَيْجُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ أَبْجَرَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ وَاصِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ أَبُو وَائِلٍ : خَطَبَنَا عَمَّارٌ فَأَوْجَزَ وَأَبْلَغَ ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ ، قُلْنَا : يَا أَبَا الْيَقْظَانِ لَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتَ وَأَوْجَزْتَ ، فَلَوْ كُنْتَ تَنَفَّسْتَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ طُولَ صَلَاةِ الرَّجُلِ وَقِصَرَ خُطْبَتِهِ ، مَئِنَّةٌ مِنْ فِقْهِهِ ، فَأَطِيلُوا الصَّلَاةَ ، وَاقْصُرُوا الْخُطْبَةَ ، وَإِنَّ مِنَ الْبَيَانِ سِحْرًا " .
Abu Wa'il reported: 'Ammar delivered to us the sermon. It was short and eloquent. When he ('Ammar) descended (from the pulpit) we said to him: O Abdul Yaqzn, you have delivered a short and eloquent sermon. Would that you had lengthened (the sermon). He said: I have heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: The lengthening of prayer by a man and the shortness of the sermon is the sign of his understanding (of faith). So lengthen the prayer and shorten the sermon, for there is charm (in precise) expression.
Hadith 1661
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِابْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ وَاصِلٍ الْأَحْدَبِ ، عَنْ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ أَبَا ذَرٍّ وَعَلَيْهِ حُلَّةٌ وَعَلَى غُلَامِهِ مِثْلُهَا فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ ، قَالَ : " فَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ سَابَّ رَجُلًا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَعَيَّرَهُ بِأُمِّهِ ، قَالَ : فَأَتَى الرَّجُلُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّكَ امْرُؤٌ فِيكَ جَاهِلِيَّةٌ إِخْوَانُكُمْ وَخَوَلُكُمْ جَعَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ تَحْتَ أَيْدِيكُمْ ، فَمَنْ كَانَ أَخُوهُ تَحْتَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَلْيُطْعِمْهُ مِمَّا يَأْكُلُ وَلْيُلْبِسْهُ مِمَّا يَلْبَسُ وَلَا تُكَلِّفُوهُمْ مَا يَغْلِبُهُمْ ، فَإِنْ كَلَّفْتُمُوهُمْ فَأَعِينُوهُمْ عَلَيْهِ " .
Ma'rur bin Suwaid reported: I saw Abu Dharr (RA) wearing clothes, and his slave wearing similar ones. I asked him about it, and he narrated that he had abused a person during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and he reproached him for his mother. That person came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and made mention of that to him. Thereupon Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: You are a person who has (remnants of) Ignorance in him. Your slaves are brothers of yours. Allah has placed them in your hand, and he who has his brother under him, he should feed him with what he eats, and dress him with what he dresses himself, and do not burden them beyond their capacities, and if you burden them, (beyond their capacities), then help them.
Hadith 2383
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ ، عَنْ وَاصِلِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي الْهُذَيْلِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَوْ كُنْتُ مُتَّخِذًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ خَلِيلًا لَاتَّخَذْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي قُحَافَةَ خَلِيلًا ، وَلَكِنْ صَاحِبُكُمْ خَلِيلُ اللَّهِ " .
Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: If I were to choose amongst the people of earth someone as my bosom friend, I would have chosen the son of Abu Quhafa as my friends but God has taken your companion as a friend.
