Hadith 209
وحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، ومُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ المقدمي ، ومحمد بن عبد الملك الأموي ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ نَوْفَلٍ ، عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، هَلْ نَفَعْتَ أَبَا طَالِبٍ بِشَيْءٍ ، فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يَحُوطُكَ وَيَغْضَبُ لَكَ ؟ قَالَ : نَعَمْ ، هُوَ فِي ضَحْضَاحٍ مِنَ نَارٍ ، وَلَوْلَا أَنَا ، لَكَانَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الأَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ " .
It is reported on the authority of 'Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib that he said: Messenger of Allah, have you benefited Abu Talib in any way for he defended you and was fervent in your defence? The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Yes; he would be in the most shallow part of the Fire: and but for me he would have been in the lowest part of Hell.

Hadith 404
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي كَامِلٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الأُمَوِيُّ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ حِطَّانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الرَّقَاشِيِّ ، قَالَ : صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي مُوسَى الأَشْعَرِيِّ صَلَاةً ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْقَعْدَةِ ، قَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : أُقِرَّتِ الصَّلَاةُ بِالْبِرِّ وَالزَّكَاةِ ؟ قَالَ : فَلَمَّا قَضَى أَبُو مُوسَى الصَّلَاةَ وَسَلَّمَ ، انْصَرَفَ ، فَقَالَ : أَيُّكُمُ الْقَائِلُ كَلِمَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، قَالَ : فَأَرَمَّ الْقَوْمُ ، ثُمّ قَالَ : أَيُّكُمُ الْقَائِلُ كَلِمَةَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَأَرَمَّ الْقَوْمُ ، فَقَالَ : لَعَلَّكَ يَا حِطَّانُ قُلْتَهَا ، قَالَ : مَا قُلْتُهَا ، وَلَقَدْ رَهِبْتُ أَنْ تَبْكَعَنِي بِهَا ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ أَنَا قُلْتُهَا ، وَلَمْ أُرِدْ بِهَا إِلَّا الْخَيْرَ ، فَقَالَ أَبُو مُوسَى : أَمَا تَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ تَقُولُونَ فِي صَلَاتِكُمْ ؟ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطَبَنَا ، فَبَيَّنَ لَنَا سُنَّتَنَا ، وَعَلَّمَنَا صَلَاتَنَا ، فَقَالَ : إِذَا صَلَّيْتُمْ ، فَأَقِيمُوا صُفُوفَكُمْ ، ثُمَّ لَيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ ، فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا ، وَإِذْ قَالَ : غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلا الضَّالِّينَ سورة الفاتحة آية 7 ، فَقُولُوا : آمِينَ ، يُجِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ ، فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ وَرَكَعَ ، فَكَبِّرُوا وَارْكَعُوا ، فَإِنَّ الإِمَامَ يَرْكَعُ قَبْلَكُمْ ، وَيَرْفَعُ قَبْلَكُمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَتِلْكَ بِتِلْكَ ، وَإِذَا قَالَ : سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، فَقُولُوا : اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ ، يَسْمَعُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ ، فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى ، قَالَ عَلَى لِسَانِ نَبِيِّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ، وَإِذَا كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ ، فَكَبِّرُوا ، وَاسْجُدُوا ، فَإِنَّ الإِمَامَ يَسْجُدُ قَبْلَكُمْ ، وَيَرْفَعُ قَبْلَكُمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَتِلْكَ بِتِلْكَ ، وَإِذَا كَانَ عِنْدَ الْقَعْدَةِ ، فَلْيَكُنْ مِنْ أَوَّلِ قَوْلِ أَحَدِكُمْ : التَّحِيَّاتُ الطَّيِّبَاتُ ، الصَّلَوَاتُ لِلَّهِ ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ " ،
Hattan bin 'Abdullah al-Raqiishi reported: I observed prayer with Abu Musu al-Ash'ari and when he was in the qa'dah, one among the people said: The prayer has been made obligatory along with piety and Zakat. He (the narrator) said: When Abu Musa had finished the prayer after salutation he turned (towards the people) and said: Who amongst you said such and such a thing? A hush fell on the people. He again said.. Who amongst you has said such and such a thing? A hush fell on the people. He (Abu Musa) said: Hattan, it is perhaps you that have uttered it. He (Hattan) said No. I have not uttered it. I was afraid that you might be annoyed with me on account of this. A person amongst the people said: It was I who said it, and in this I intended nothing but good. Abu Musa said: Don't you know what you have to recite in your prayers? Verily the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressed us and explained to us all its aspects and taught us how to observe prayer (properly). He (the Holy Prophet) said: When you pray make your rows straight and let anyone amongst you act as your Imam. Recite the takbir when he recites it and when he recites: Not of those with whom Thou art angry nor of those who go astray, say: Amin. Allah would respond you. And when he (the Imam) recites the takbir, you may also recite the takbir, for the Imam bows before you and raises himself before you. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The one is equivalent to the other. And when he says: Allah listens to him who praises Him, you should say: O Allah, our. Lord, to Thee be the praise, for Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, has vouchsafed (us) through the tongue of His Apostle (ﷺ) that Allah listens to him who praises Him. And when he (the Imam) recites the takbir and prostrates, you should also recite the takbir and prostrate, for the Imam prostrates before you and raises himself before you. The Messenger' of Allah (ﷺ) said: The one is equivalent to the other. And when he (the Imam) sits for Qa'da (for tashahhud) the first words of every one amongst you should be: All services rendered by words, acts of worship and all good things are due to Allah. Peace be upon you,O Apostle, and Allah's mercy and blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the upright servants of Allah. I testify that there is no god but Allah, and I testify that Mubammad is His servant and His Messenger.

وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْأُمَوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُهَيْلُ بْنُ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَا مِنْ صَاحِبِ كَنْزٍ لَا يُؤَدِّي زَكَاتَهُ ، إِلَّا أُحْمِيَ عَلَيْهِ فِي نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ ، فَيُجْعَلُ صَفَائِحَ فَيُكْوَى بِهَا جَنْبَاهُ وَجَبِينُهُ ، حَتَّى يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ، ثُمَّ يَرَى سَبِيلَهُ إِمَّا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَإِمَّا إِلَى النَّارِ ، وَمَا مِنْ صَاحِبِ إِبِلٍ لَا يُؤَدِّي زَكَاتَهَا ، إِلَّا بُطِحَ لَهَا بِقَاعٍ قَرْقَرٍ ، كَأَوْفَرِ مَا كَانَتْ تَسْتَنُّ عَلَيْهِ ، كُلَّمَا مَضَى عَلَيْهِ أُخْرَاهَا رُدَّتْ عَلَيْهِ أُولَاهَا ، حَتَّى يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ، ثُمَّ يَرَى سَبِيلَهُ إِمَّا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَإِمَّا إِلَى النَّارِ ، وَمَا مِنْ صَاحِبِ غَنَمٍ لَا يُؤَدِّي زَكَاتَهَا ، إِلَّا بُطِحَ لَهَا بِقَاعٍ قَرْقَرٍ ، كَأَوْفَرِ مَا كَانَتْ ، فَتَطَؤُهُ بِأَظْلَافِهَا وَتَنْطَحُهُ بِقُرُونِهَا لَيْسَ فِيهَا عَقْصَاءُ وَلَا جَلْحَاءُ ، كُلَّمَا مَضَى عَلَيْهِ أُخْرَاهَا رُدَّتْ عَلَيْهِ أُولَاهَا ، حَتَّى يَحْكُمَ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ عِبَادِهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ مِمَّا تَعُدُّونَ ، ثُمَّ يَرَى سَبِيلَهُ إِمَّا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَإِمَّا إِلَى النَّارِ ، قَالَ سُهَيْلٌ : فَلَا أَدْرِي أَذَكَرَ الْبَقَرَ أَمْ لَا ؟ ، قَالُوا : فَالْخَيْلُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : الْخَيْلُ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا ، أَوَ قَالَ : الْخَيْلُ مَعْقُودٌ فِي نَوَاصِيهَا ، قَالَ سُهَيْلٌ : أَنَا أَشُكُّ الْخَيْرُ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ، الْخَيْلُ ثَلَاثَةٌ : فَهِيَ لِرَجُلٍ أَجْرٌ ، وَلِرَجُلٍ سِتْرٌ ، وَلِرَجُلٍ وِزْرٌ ، فَأَمَّا الَّتِي هِيَ لَهُ أَجْرٌ ، فَالرَّجُلُ يَتَّخِذُهَا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، وَيُعِدُّهَا لَهُ ، فَلَا تُغَيِّبُ شَيْئًا فِي بُطُونِهَا إِلَّا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ أَجْرًا ، وَلَوْ رَعَاهَا فِي مَرْجٍ مَا أَكَلَتْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِهَا أَجْرًا ، وَلَوْ سَقَاهَا مِنْ نَهْرٍ كَانَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ قَطْرَةٍ تُغَيِّبُهَا فِي بُطُونِهَا أَجْرٌ ، حَتَّى ذَكَرَ الْأَجْرَ فِي أَبْوَالِهَا وَأَرْوَاثِهَا ، وَلَوِ اسْتَنَّتْ شَرَفًا أَوْ شَرَفَيْنِ كُتِبَ لَهُ بِكُلِّ خُطْوَةٍ تَخْطُوهَا أَجْرٌ ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي هِيَ لَهُ سِتْرٌ ، فَالرَّجُلُ يَتَّخِذُهَا تَكَرُّمًا وَتَجَمُّلًا ، وَلَا يَنْسَى حَقَّ ظُهُورِهَا وَبُطُونِهَا فِي عُسْرِهَا وَيُسْرِهَا ، وَأَمَّا الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ وِزْرٌ ، فَالَّذِي يَتَّخِذُهَا أَشَرًا وَبَطَرًا وَبَذَخًا وَرِيَاءَ النَّاسِ ، فَذَاكَ الَّذِي هِيَ عَلَيْهِ وِزْرٌ ، قَالُوا : فَالْحُمُرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ ، قَالَ : مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَيَّ فِيهَا شَيْئًا إِلَّا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ الْجَامِعَةَ الْفَاذَّةَ فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ { 7 } وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ { 8 } سورة الزلزلة آية 7-8 " ،
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: No owner of the treasure who does not pay Zakat (would be spared) but (his hoards) would be heated in the Fire of Hell and these would be made into plates and with these his sides, his forehead would be cauterised till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants during a day, the extent of which would be fifty thousand years. He would then see his path, leading either to Paradise or to Hell. And no owner of the camels who does not pay Zakat (would be spared) but a soft sandy plain would be set for him and they (the camels) would be made to pass over him till the last of them would be made to return till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants during a day, the extent of which would be fifty thousand years. He would then see his path leading him to Paradise or leading him to Hell. And no owner of the cattle and goats who does not pay Zakat (would be spared) but a soft sandy plain would be set for him, he would find none of them missing, with twisted horns, without horns, or with broken horns, and they will gore him with their horns and trample him with their hoofs and they would be made to pass over him till the last of them would be made to return till Allah would pronounce judgment among His servants, during a day the extent of which would be fifty thousand years, and he would see the paths leading to Paradise or to Hell. Suhail said: I do not know whether he made mention of the cows. They said: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) , what about the horses? He said: The horses have goodness in their foreheads (or he said) or goodness is ingrained in the foreheads of the horses (Suhail said: I am in doubt as to what was actually said) up till the Day of judgement. The horses are of three kinds. They are a source of reward to a person, they are a covering to a person, and they are a burden to a person. As for those which bring reward is that a person would get reward who rears them for the sake of Allah and trains them for Him, and nothing disappears in their stomachs but Allah would record for him a good deed. And if they were to graze in the meadow, they would eat nothing but Allah would record for him a reward. And if they were to drink water from the canal, with every drop that would disappear in their stomachs there would be reward (for the owner). He went on describing till a reward was mentioned for their urine and dung. And if they pranced a course or two, there would be recorded a reward for every pace that they covered. As for one for whom they are a covering, he is the man who rears them for honour and dignity but does not forget the right of their backs and their stomachs, in plenty and adversity. As regards one for whom they are a burden, he is that who rears them for vainglory and showing off to the people; for him they are, the burden. They said: Messenger of Allah, what about asses? He said: Allah has not revealed to me anything in regards to it except this one comprehensive verse: "He who does an atom's weight of good will see it, and he who does an atom's weight of evil will see it" (xcix. 7).

حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْأُمَوِيُّ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَاهُ قَوْمٌ مُجْتَابِي النِّمَارِ ، وَسَاقُوا الْحَدِيثَ بِقِصَّتِهِ ، وَفِيهِ : فَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ صَعِدَ مِنْبَرًا صَغِيرًا ، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ أَنْزَلَ فِي كِتَابِهِ يَأَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ سورة النساء آية 1 " الْآيَةَ ،
Mundhir bin Jarir narrated on the authority of his father: When we were sitting in the company of the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) . There came people dressed in striped woollen clothes, and the rest of the hadith in the same, and there (it is also mentioned): "He observed the Zuhr prayer and then climbed up a small pulpit, praised Allah, lauded Him, and then said: Verily Allah in His Book has revealed: 'O people, fear your Lord, ' etc." (iv. 1).

وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْأُمَوِيُّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ : خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ الْقَرْنُ الَّذِينَ بُعِثْتُ فِيهِمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، زَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَوَانَةَ ، قَالَ : وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ أَذَكَرَ الثَّالِثَ أَمْ لَا بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ زَهْدَمٍ ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ ، وَزَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ وَيَحْلِفُونَ وَلَا يُسْتَحْلَفُونَ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of 'Imran bin Husain through another chain of transmitters (and the words are): The best generation of this Umma is the generation to which I have been sent, then the next one, and there is an addition in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Abu 'Awana (and the words are): And Allah knows best whether he made a mention of the third (generation) or not; the rest of the hadith is the same as transmitted by Zahdam on the authority of 'Imran. And in the hadith transmitted by Hisham on the authority of Qatada there is an addition of these words: They take an oath whereas they are not asked to take.

حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ ، وَأَبُو كَامِلٍ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْأُمَوِيُّ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ ، عَنْ الْمُنْذِرِ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ .

حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْأُمَوِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ الْمُخْتَارِ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ ، عَنْ سُمَيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يُصْبِحُ وَحِينَ يُمْسِي سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ مِائَةَ مَرَّةٍ ، لَمْ يَأْتِ أَحَدٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِأَفْضَلَ مِمَّا جَاءَ بِهِ إِلَّا أَحَدٌ قَالَ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ أَوْ زَادَ عَلَيْهِ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who recites in the morning and in the evening (these words): "Hallowed be Allah and all praise is due to Him" one hundred times, he would not bring on the Day of Resurrection anything excellent than this except one who utters these words or utters more than these words.
