Hadith 822
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يُقَالُ لَهُ : نَهِيكُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : فَجَاءَ عَلْقَمَةُ لِيَدْخُلَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَقُلْنَا لَهُ : سَلْهُ عَنِ النَّظَائِرِ الَّتِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ بِهَا فِي رَكْعَةٍ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ فَسَأَلَهُ ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا ، فَقَالَ : عِشْرُونَ سُورَةً مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ فِي تَأْلِيفِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ .
Abu Wa'il reported: A person came to 'Abdullah, who was called Nahik bin Sinan, and the rest of the hadith is the same but for this:" Alqama came to him ('Abdullah bin Mas'ud) and we said to him: Ask him about the manners in which he combined (two surahs) in one rak'ah. So he went to him and asked him and then came to us and said: Twenty are the mufassal surahs in the compilation (of the Qur'an) made by 'Abdullah."
Hadith 824
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، قَالَ : قَدِمْنَا الشَّامَ ، فَأَتَانَا أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ ، فَقَالَ : " أَفِيكُمْ أَحَدٌ يَقْرَأُ عَلَى قِرَاءَةِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : نَعَمْ ، أَنَا ، قَالَ : " فَكَيْفَ سَمِعْتَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ يَقْرَأُ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى سورة الليل آية 1 ؟ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ 0 وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى وَالذَّكَرِ وَالأُنْثَى 0 ، قَالَ : وَأَنَا وَاللَّهِ هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَؤُهَا ، وَلَكِنْ هَؤُلَاءِ يُرِيدُونَ أَنْ أَقْرَأَ ، وَمَا خَلَقَ فَلَا أُتَابِعُهُمْ " .
'Alqama reported. We went to Syria and Abu Darda' came to us and said: Is there anyone among you who recites according to the recitation of 'Abdullah? I said: Yes, it is I. He again said: How did you hear 'Abdullah reciting this verse: (wa'l-lail-i-idha yaghsha = when the night covers)? He ('Alqama) said: I heard him reciting it (like this) (wa'l-lail-i-idha yaghsha) wa-dhakar wal untha = when the night covers and the males and the females). Upon this he said: By Allah, I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) reciting in this way, but they (the Muslims of Syria) desire us to recite: (wa ma khalaqa), but I do not yield to their desire.
Hadith 857
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كَريْب ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ لآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ ، ثُمَّ أَتَى الْجُمُعَةَ فَاسْتَمَعَ وَأَنْصَتَ ، غُفِرَ لَهُ مَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، وَزِيَادَةُ ثَلَاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ، وَمَنْ مَسَّ الْحَصَى فَقَدْ لَغَا " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who performed ablution well, then came to Friday prayer, listened (to the sermon), kept silence, all (his sins) between that time and the next Friday would be forgiven with three days extra, and he who touched pebbles caused an interruption.
Hadith 892
وحَدَّثَنَاه يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ : " وَفِيهِ جَارِيَتَانِ تَلْعَبَانِ بِدُفٍّ " .
This hadith has been narrated by Hisham with the same chain of transmitters, but there the words are:" Two girls were playing upon a tambourine."
Hadith 900
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبَانٍ الْجُعْفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ ، كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مَسْعُودِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 901
وحَدَّثَنَاه يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَزَادَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ " ، وَزَادَ أَيْضًا : " ثُمَّ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُمَّ هَلْ بَلَّغْتُ " .
This hadith has been narrated by Hisham bin 'Urwa with the same chain of transmitters but with this addition:" Verily the sun and the moon are among the signs of Allah." And similarly this addition was made:" He then lifted his hands and said: O Allah! have I not conveyed it?"
Hadith 919
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا حَضَرْتُمُ الْمَرِيضَ أَوِ الْمَيِّتَ ، فَقُولُوا خَيْرًا فَإِنَّ الْمَلَائِكَةَ يُؤَمِّنُونَ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُونَ " ، قَالَتْ : فَلَمَّا مَاتَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ قَدْ مَاتَ ، قَالَ : " قُولِي اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلَهُ ، وَأَعْقِبْنِي مِنْهُ عُقْبَى حَسَنَةً " ، قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ : فَأَعْقَبَنِي اللَّهُ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لِي مِنْهُ مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Umm Salamah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Whenever you visit the sick or the dead, supplicate for good because angels say "Amen" to whatever you say. She added: When Abu Salama died, I went to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) and said: Messenger of Allah, Abu Salama has died. He told me to recite: "O Allah! forgive me and him (Abu Salama) and give me a better substitute than he." So I said (this), and Allah gave me in exchange Muhammad, who is better for me than him (Abu Salama).
Hadith 923
وحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ الْأَحْوَلِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ حَدِيثَ حَمَّادٍ أَتَمُّ وَأَطْوَلُ .
This hadith has been narrated by another chain of transmitters on the authority of 'Asim al-Atwal.
Hadith 936
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإسحاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَازِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ ، قَالَتْ : لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ عَلَى أَنْ لا يُشْرِكْنَ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا سورة الممتحنة آية 12 ، وَلا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ سورة الممتحنة آية 12 ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ مِنْهُ النِّيَاحَةُ ، قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا آلَ فُلَانٍ ، فَإِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا أَسْعَدُونِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، فَلَا بُدَّ لِي مِنْ أَنْ أُسْعِدَهُمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِلَّا آلَ فُلَانٍ " .
Hafsa narrated on the authority of Umm 'Atiyya that she said: When this verse was revealed:" When believing women came to thee giving thee a pledge that they will not associate aught with Allah, and will not disobey thee in good" (lx. 12), she (Umm Atiyya) said: In (this pledge) was also included wailing. I said: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) I except members of such a tribe who helped me (in lamentation) during pre-Islamic days, there is left no alternative for me, but that I should also help them. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: (Yes) but only in case of the members of such a tribe.
Hadith 939
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَعَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ عَمْرٌو : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَازِمٍ أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ ، قَالَتْ : لَمَّا مَاتَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا ، وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْخَامِسَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ ، فَإِذَا غَسَلْتُنَّهَا فَأَعْلِمْنَنِي " ، قَالَتْ : فَأَعْلَمْنَاهُ ، فَأَعْطَانَا حَقْوَهُ ، وَقَالَ : أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ " ،
Umm 'Atiyya reported: When Zainab the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) died, he said to us: Wash her odd number of times, i. e. three or five times, and put camphor or something-like camphor at the fifth time, and after you have washed her inform me. So we informed him and he gave us his under-garment, saying:" Put it next to her body."
Hadith 940
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُونَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ خَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ ، قَالَ : هَاجَرْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، نَبْتَغِي وَجْهَ اللَّهِ ، فَوَجَبَ أَجْرُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ ، فَمِنَّا مَنْ مَضَى لَمْ يَأْكُلْ مِنْ أَجْرِهِ شَيْئًا ، مِنْهُمْ مُصْعَبُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ قُتِلَ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ ، فَلَمْ يُوجَدْ لَهُ شَيْءٌ يُكَفَّنُ فِيهِ إِلَّا نَمِرَةٌ ، فَكُنَّا إِذَا وَضَعْنَاهَا عَلَى رَأْسِهِ خَرَجَتْ رِجْلَاهُ ، وَإِذَا وَضَعْنَاهَا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ خَرَجَ رَأْسُهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ضَعُوهَا مِمَّا يَلِي رَأْسَهُ ، وَاجْعَلُوا عَلَى رِجْلَيْهِ الْإِذْخِرَ ، وَمِنَّا مَنْ أَيْنَعَتْ لَهُ ثَمَرَتُهُ فَهْوَ يَهْدِبُهَا " ،
Khabbab al-Aratt reported: We migrated with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in the path of Allah seeking Allah's pleasure alone. Thus our reward was assured with Allah. And amongst us were those who spent life (in such a state of piety and austerity) that nothing consumed their reward. Mus'ab bin 'Umair was one of them. He was killed on the Day of Uhud, and nothing but a woolen cloak was found to shroud him. When we covered his head with it, his feet became uncovered, and when we covered his feet, his head was uncovered. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Place it (this cloak) on the side of his head and cover his feet with grass. And there is one amongst us for whom the fruit is ripened and he enjoys it.
Hadith 941
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى ، قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : " كُفِّنَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ بِيضٍ سَحُولِيَّةٍ مِنْ كُرْسُفٍ ، لَيْسَ فِيهَا قَمِيصٌ وَلَا عِمَامَةٌ ، أَمَّا الْحُلَّةُ فَإِنَّمَا شُبِّهَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فِيهَا ، أَنَّهَا اشْتُرِيَتْ لَهُ لِيُكَفَّنَ فِيهَا ، فَتُرِكَتِ الْحُلَّةُ وَكُفِّنَ فِي ثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ بِيضٍ سَحُولِيَّةٍ " ، فَأَخَذَهَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، فَقَالَ : لَأَحْبِسَنَّهَا حَتَّى أُكَفِّنَ فِيهَا نَفْسِي ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : لَوْ رَضِيَهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِنَبِيِّهِ لَكَفَّنَهُ فِيهَا ، فَبَاعَهَا وَتَصَدَّقَ بِثَمَنِهَا " .
'A'isha reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul, among which was neither a shirt nor a turban; and so far as Hullah is concerned there was some doubt about it in the minds of people, that it was brought for him in order to shroud him with it, but it was abandoned, and he was shrouded in three cotton garments of white Yamani stuff from Sahul. Then 'Abdullah bin Abu Bakr (RA) got it and said: I would keep it in order to shroud myself in it. He then said: If Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, would have desired it for His Apostle, he would have been shrouded with it. So he sold it and gave its price in charity.
Hadith 990
وحَدَّثَنَاه أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ الْمَعْرُورِ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فِي ظِلِّ الْكَعْبَةِ ، فَذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ رَجُلٌ يَمُوتُ ، فَيَدَعُ إِبِلًا أَوْ بَقَرًا أَوْ غَنَمًا لَمْ يُؤَدِّ زَكَاتَهَا " .
Abu Dbarr reported: I went to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) and he was sitting under the shade of the Ka’bah, and the rest of the hadith it the same but for this that he (the Holy Prophet) said: "By Allah, in Whose hand is my life, no person on earth who dies and leaves behind camels, or cattle or goat and sheep, and does not pay Zakat (would be spared the punishment)."
Hadith 94
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ أَمْشِي مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي حَرَّةِ الْمَدِينَةِ عِشَاءً ، وَنَحْنُ نَنْظُرُ إِلَى أُحُدٍ ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ أُحُدًا ذَاكَ عِنْدِي ذَهَبٌ أَمْسَى ثَالِثَةً ، عِنْدِي مِنْهُ دِينَارٌ إِلَّا دِينَارًا أَرْصُدُهُ لِدَيْنٍ ، إِلَّا أَنْ أَقُولَ بِهِ فِي عِبَادِ اللَّهِ هَكَذَا حَثَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، وَهَكَذَا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ، وَهَكَذَا عَنْ شِمَالِهِ " ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ مَشَيْنَا ، فَقَالَ : " يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ الْأَكْثَرِينَ هُمُ الْأَقَلُّونَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ، إِلَّا مَنْ قَالَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا " ، مِثْلَ مَا صَنَعَ فِي الْمَرَّةِ الْأُولَى ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ مَشَيْنَا ، قَالَ : " يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ كَمَا أَنْتَ حَتَّى آتِيَكَ " ، قَالَ : فَانْطَلَقَ حَتَّى تَوَارَى عَنِّي ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ لَغَطًا وَسَمِعْتُ صَوْتًا ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ : لَعَلَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عُرِضَ لَهُ ، قَالَ : فَهَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَتَّبِعَهُ ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ ذَكَرْتُ قَوْلَهُ لَا تَبْرَحْ حَتَّى آتِيَكَ ، قَالَ : فَانْتَظَرْتُهُ فَلَمَّا جَاءَ ذَكَرْتُ لَهُ الَّذِي سَمِعْتُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ : " ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ أَتَانِي ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا دَخَلَ الْجَنَّةَ " ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ ، قَالَ : " وَإِنْ زَنَى وَإِنْ سَرَقَ " .
Abu Dharr (RA) reported: I walked with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) on the stony ground of Madinah in the afternoon and we were looking at Uhud. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace by upon him) said: Abu Dharr! I said: Messenger of Allah, I am here at thy beck and call. He said: What I desire is that Uhud be gold with me and three nights should pass and there is left with me any dinar but one coin which I would keep to pay debt. (I love) to spend it among the servants of Allah like this and he pointed in front of him, and on his right side and on his left side. We then proceeded on and he said: Abu Dharr. I said: At thy beck and call, Messenger of Allah. He (the Holy Prophet) said: The rich would be poor on the Day of Resurrection, but he who spent like this and like this and like this, and he pointed as at the first time. We again went on when he said. Abu Dharr, stay where you are till I come back to you. He (the Holy Prophet) then moved on till he disappeared from my sight. He (Abu Dharr) said: I heard a sound and I heard a noise. I said (to myself): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) might have met (mishap or an enemy). I wished to follow him but I remembered his command for not departing till he would come back. So I waited for him, and when he came I made a mention of what I heard. He said: it was Gabriel (ؑ), who came to me and said: "He who dies among your Ummah without associating anything with Allah would enter Paradise. I said: Even if he committed fornication or theft? He said: Even if he committed fornication or theft.
Hadith 1016
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ : ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّارَ فَأَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اتَّقُوا النَّارَ " ، ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ وَأَشَاحَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ كَأَنَّمَا يَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " اتَّقُوا النَّارَ وَلَوْ بِشِقِّ تَمْرَةٍ ، فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَبِكَلِمَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ " وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ كَأَنَّمَا ، وَقَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ .
Adi bin Hatim reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) made a mention of Fire. He turned his face aside and diverted his attention and then said: Guard (yourselves) against Fire. He turned his face and diverted his attention till we thought as if he were (actually seeing it and then said: Protect yourselves against Fire even if it is with half a date, and he who does not find it, (he should do so) with pleasant words. Abu Kuraib did not mention the word: (as if).
Hadith 1024
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ شَقِيقٍ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَنْفَقَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا غَيْرَ مُفْسِدَةٍ ، كَانَ لَهَا أَجْرُهَا ، وَلَهُ مِثْلُهُ بِمَا اكْتَسَبَ ، وَلَهَا بِمَا أَنْفَقَتْ ، وَلِلْخَازِنِ مِثْلُ ذَلِكَ ، مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَنْتَقِصَ مِنْ أُجُورِهِمْ شَيْئًا " ،
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When a woman spends (something as Sadaqa) out of the household of her husband without causing any damage, there is a reward for her and for him too like it for whatever he earned, and for her (for the wife) because of her spending (for the sake of Allah), and for the trustee also (there is a reward like it), without any reduction from their rewards.
Hadith 1024
وحَدَّثَنَاه ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ .
This hadith has been narratedby A'mash with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1029
وحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَإسحاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ خَازِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ حَمْزَةَ ، وَعَنْ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ الْمُنْذِرِ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ ، قَالَتْ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " انْفَحِي أَوِ انْضَحِي أَوْ أَنْفِقِي ، وَلَا تُحْصِي فَيُحْصِيَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ ، وَلَا تُوعِي فَيُوعِيَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ " ،
Asma' reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying (to her): Spend and do not calculate, (for) Allah would calculate in your case; and do not hoard, otherwise Allah would be withholding from you.
Hadith 1066
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، وَلَيْسَ فِي حَدِيثِهِمَا " يَمْرُقُونَ مِنَ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنَ الرَّمِيَّةِ " .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of A'mash with the same chain of transmitters, but (these words) are not there: "They pass through the religion clean as the arrow passes through the prey."
Hadith 1075
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : كَانَتْ فِي بَرِيرَةَ ثَلَاثُ قَضِيَّاتٍ ، كَانَ النَّاسُ يَتَصَدَّقُونَ عَلَيْهَا وَتُهْدِي لَنَا ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " هُوَ عَلَيْهَا صَدَقَةٌ وَلَكُمْ هَدِيَّةٌ فَكُلُوهُ " ،
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: Three are the decions (of the Shari'ah that we have come to know) through Barira. The people gave her sadaqah and she offered us as gift. We made a mention of it to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) , whereupon he said: It is a sadaqah for her and a gift for you; so eat it.
Hadith 1099
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَطِيَّةَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَمَسْرُوقٌ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ ، فَقُلْنَا : " يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَجُلَانِ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَحَدُهُمَا يُعَجِّلُ الْإِفْطَارَ وَيُعَجِّلُ الصَّلَاةَ ، وَالْآخَرُ يُؤَخِّرُ الْإِفْطَارَ وَيُؤَخِّرُ الصَّلَاةَ " ، قَالَتْ : " أَيُّهُمَا الَّذِي يُعَجِّلُ الْإِفْطَارَ وَيُعَجِّلُ الصَّلَاةَ ؟ " ، قَالَ : " قُلْنَا : عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مَسْعُودٍ " ، قَالَتْ : " كَذَلِكَ كَانَ يَصْنَعُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " ، زَادَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ : " وَالْآخَرُ أَبُو مُوسَى " .
Abu 'Atiyya reported: I and Masruq went to 'A'isha and said to her: Mother of the Believers, there are two persons among the Companions of Muhammad (ﷺ) one among whom hastens in breaking the fast and in observing prayer, and the other delays breaking the fast and delays observing prayer. She said: Who among the two hastens in breaking fast and observing prayers? We said, It is 'Abdullah. i. e. son of Mas'ud. whereupon she said: This is how the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did. Abu Kuraib added: The second one was Abu Musa.
Hadith 1100
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، واتفقوا في اللفظ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وقَالَ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، وقَالَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنْ عُمَرَرَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَقْبَلَ اللَّيْلُ وَأَدْبَرَ النَّهَارُ ، وَغَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ ، فَقَدْ أَفْطَرَ الصَّائِمُ " ، لَمْ يَذْكُرْ ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ فَقَدْ .
'Umar (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: When the night approaches and the day retreates and the sun sinks down, then the observer of the fast should break it. Ibn Numair made no mention of the word "then".
Hadith 1107
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ شُتَيْرِ بْنِ شَكَلٍ ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُقَبِّلُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ " ،
Hafsa (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) kissed (his wives) while fasting.
Hadith 1119
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ مُوَرِّقٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي السَّفَرِ ، فَمِنَّا الصَّائِمُ وَمِنَّا الْمُفْطِرُ ، قَالَ : فَنَزَلْنَا مَنْزِلًا فِي يَوْمٍ حَارٍّ أَكْثَرُنَا ظِلًّا صَاحِبُ الْكِسَاءِ ، وَمِنَّا مَنْ يَتَّقِي الشَّمْسَ بِيَدِهِ ، قَالَ : فَسَقَطَ الصُّوَّامُ وَقَامَ الْمُفْطِرُونَ ، فَضَرَبُوا الْأَبْنِيَةِ وَسَقَوْا الرِّكَابَ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " ذَهَبَ الْمُفْطِرُونَ الْيَوْمَ بِالْأَجْرِ " .
Anas (RA) reported: We were with the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) on a journey. Some of us had been observing the fast and some of us had not been fasting. We got down at a place on a hot day. Most of us had the cloth for shelter. There were also those amongst us who sheltered themselves against the rays of the sun with the help of their hands. The observers of the fast fell down (on account of weakness). Those who had not observed it got up and pitched tents and watered the mounts. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: The breakers of the fast have taken away the reward today.
Hadith 1121
وحَدَّثَنَاه يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، مِثْلَ حَدِيثِ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ : إِنِّي رَجُلٌ أَسْرُدُ الصَّوْمَ ،
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Hisham with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1127
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ الْأَشْعَثُ بْنُ قَيْسٍ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ يَتَغَدَّى ، فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ ادْنُ إِلَى الْغَدَاءِ ، فَقَالَ : أَوَلَيْسَ الْيَوْمُ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ ؟ ، قَالَ : وَهَلْ تَدْرِي مَا يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ ؟ ، قَالَ : وَمَا هُوَ ؟ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّمَا هُوَ يَوْمٌ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْزِلَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَ شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ تُرِكَ " ، وقَالَ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ : " تَرَكَهُ " ،
Abdul Rahman bin Yazid said: When al-Ash'ath bin Qais entered the house of 'Abdullah he was having his breakfast. He ('Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) said: Abu Muhammad (al-Asha'th), came near to the breakfast. Thereupon he said: Is not today the Day of 'Ashura? He ('Abdul Rahman) said: Do you know what the Day of 'Ashura is? He said: What is it? He said: It is a day on which the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used To observe fast before the (fasting) in the month of Ramadan became obligatory. But when it became obligatory the (fasting of 'Ashura) was abandoned (as compulsory). Abu Kuraib said: He (the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) abandoned it.
Hadith 1144
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصٌ ، وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ . ح حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يَصُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ ، إِلَّا أَنْ يَصُومَ قَبْلَهُ ، أَوْ يَصُومَ بَعْدَهُ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: None among you should observe fast on Friday, but only that he observes fast before it and after it.
Hadith 1151
وحَدَّثَنَا وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، وَوَكِيعٌ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ، حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كُلُّ عَمَلِ ابْنِ آدَمَ يُضَاعَفُ الْحَسَنَةُ عَشْرُ أَمْثَالِهَا إِلَى سَبْعمِائَة ضِعْفٍ ، قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : " إِلَّا الصَّوْمَ فَإِنَّهُ لِي ، وَأَنَا أَجْزِي بِهِ ، يَدَعُ شَهْوَتَهُ وَطَعَامَهُ مِنْ أَجْلِي ، لِلصَّائِمِ فَرْحَتَانِ : فَرْحَةٌ عِنْدَ فِطْرِهِ ، وَفَرْحَةٌ عِنْدَ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِ ، وَلَخُلُوفُ فِيهِ أَطْيَبُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ مِنْ رِيحِ الْمِسْكِ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Every (good) deed of the son of Adam ؑؑwould be multiplied, a good deed receiving a tenfold to seven hundredfold reward. Allah, the Exalted and Majestic, has said: With the exception of fasting, for it is done for Me and I will give a reward for it, for one abandons his passion and food for My sake. There are two occasions of joy for one who fasts, joy when he breaks it, and joy when he meets his Lord, and the breath (of an observer of fast) is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk.
Hadith 1172
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُمَا ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الْأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ " .
This hadith has been narrated by 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1172
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَعْتَكِفَ صَلَّى الْفَجْرَ ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مُعْتَكَفَهُ ، وَإِنَّهُ أَمَرَ بِخِبَائِهِ فَضُرِبَ ، أَرَادَ الِاعْتِكَافَ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ، فَأَمَرَتْ زَيْنَبُ بِخِبَائِهَا فَضُرِبَ ، وَأَمَرَ غَيْرُهَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِخِبَائِهِ فَضُرِبَ ، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْفَجْرَ ، نَظَرَ فَإِذَا الْأَخْبِيَةُ ، فَقَالَ : آلْبِرَّ تُرِدْنَ فَأَمَرَ بِخِبَائِهِ فَقُوِّضَ ، وَتَرَكَ الِاعْتِكَافَ فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ ، حَتَّى اعْتَكَفَ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَّلِ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ " ،
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) decided to observe i'tikaf, he prayed in the morning and then went to the place of his i'tikaf, and he commanded that a tent should be pitched for him, and it was pitched. He (once) decided to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan. Zainab (the wife of the Holy Prophet) commanded that a tent should be pitched for her. It was pitched accordingly. And some other wives of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) commanded that tents should be pitched for them too. And they were pitched. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) (may peace he upon him) offered the morning prayer, he looked and found (so many) tents. Thereupon he said: What is this virtue that these (ladies) have decided to acquire? He commanded his tent to be struck and abandoned i'tikaf in the month of Ramadan and postponed it to the first ten days of Shawwal.
Hadith 1176
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاق ، قَالَ إِسْحَاق : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَائِمًا فِي الْعَشْرِ قَطُّ " .
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) fasting in the ten days of Dhu'I-Hijja.
Hadith 1190
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " لَكَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَى وَبِيصِ الطِّيبِ فِي مَفَارِقِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَهُوَ يُهِلُّ " .
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: I still seem to see the glistening of the perfume where the hair parted on Allah's Messenger's (ﷺ) head and he was free from Ihram.
Hadith 1194
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : أَهْدَى الصَّعْبُ بْنُ جَثَّامَةَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ ، فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ ، وَقَالَ : " لَوْلَا أَنَّا مُحْرِمُونَ لَقَبِلْنَاهُ مِنْكَ " ،
Ibn 'Abbas (RA) reported that al-Sa'b bin Jaththama presented to the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) a wild ass as he was in a state of Ihram, and he returned it to him saying: If we were not in a state of Ihram, we would have accepted it from you.
Hadith 1219
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ قُرَيْشٌ وَمَنْ دَانَ دِينَهَا يَقِفُونَ بِالْمُزْدَلِفَةِ ، وَكَانُوا يُسَمَّوْنَ الْحُمْسَ ، وَكَانَ سَائِرُ الْعَرَبِ يَقِفُونَ بِعَرَفَةَ ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ ، أَمَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ عَرَفَاتٍ فَيَقِفَ بِهَا ، ثُمَّ يُفِيضَ مِنْهَا ، فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : ثُمَّ أَفِيضُوا مِنْ حَيْثُ أَفَاضَ النَّاسُ سورة البقرة آية 199 " .
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Quraish (of the pre-Islamic days) and those who followed their religions practices stayed at Muzdalifa, and they named themselves as Hums, whereas all other Arabs stayed at 'Arafa. With the advent of Islam, Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, commanded His Apostle (ﷺ) to come to 'Arafat and stay there, and then hurry from there, and this is the significance of the words of Allah: "Then hasten on from where the people hasten on."
Hadith 1224
وحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالُوا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " كَانَتِ الْمُتْعَةُ فِي الْحَجِّ لِأَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَاصَّةً " .
Abu Dharr (RA) said that Tamattu' in Hajj was a special (concession) for the Companions of Muhammad (ﷺ) .
Hadith 1270
وحَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَابِسِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ عُمَرَ يُقَبِّلُ الْحَجَرَ ، وَيَقُولُ : " إِنِّي لَأُقَبِّلُكَ وَأَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ حَجَرٌ ، وَلَوْلَا أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَبِّلُكَ لَمْ أُقَبِّلْكَ " .
Abbas bin Rabi'a reported: I saw 'Umar (RA) kissing the Stone and saying: I am kissing you and I know that you are a stone. And if I had not seen Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) kissing you, I would not have kissed you.
Hadith 1277
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ لَهَا : إِنِّي لَأَظُنُّ رَجُلًا لَوْ لَمْ يَطُفْ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا ، وَالْمَرْوَةِ مَا ضَرَّهُ ، قَالَتْ : لِمَ ؟ قُلْتُ : لِأَنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ : إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ سورة البقرة آية 158 إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ ، فَقَالَتْ : مَا أَتَمَّ اللَّهُ حَجَّ امْرِئٍ وَلَا عُمْرَتَهُ لَمْ يَطُفْ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا ، وَالْمَرْوَةِ " ، وَلَوْ كَانَ كَمَا تَقُولُ لَكَانَ فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ لَا يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا ؟ وَهَلْ تَدْرِي فِيمَا كَانَ ذَاكَ إِنَّمَا كَانَ ذَاكَ ؟ أَنَّ الْأَنْصَارَ كَانُوا يُهِلُّونَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لِصَنَمَيْنِ عَلَى شَطِّ الْبَحْرِ ، يُقَالُ لَهُمَا : إِسَافٌ ، وَنَائِلَةُ ، ثُمَّ يَجِيئُونَ فَيَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا ، وَالْمَرْوَةِ ، ثُمَّ يَحْلِقُونَ ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ الْإِسْلَامُ كَرِهُوا أَنْ يَطُوفُوا بَيْنَهُمَا ، لِلَّذِي كَانُوا يَصْنَعُونَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ، قَالَتْ : فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ سورة البقرة آية 158 ، إِلَى آخِرِهَا ، قَالَتْ : فَطَافُوا " .
Hisham bin 'Urwa reported on the authority of his father who narrated from 'A'isha. He said to 'A'isha: I think if a person does not run between al- Safa' and al-Marwah, It does not do any harm to him (so far as Hajj is concerned). She said: Why (do you think so)? I said: For Allah says: "Verily al-Safa' and al-Marwahh are among the Signs of Allah" (ii. 158) (to the end of the verse), whereupon she said: Allah does not complete the Hajj of a person or his 'Umrah if he does not observe Sa'i between al-Safa' and al-Marwahh; and if it were so as you state, then (the wording would have been (fala janah an la yatufu biha) [" There is no harm for him if he does not circumambulate between them']. Do you know in what context (this verse was revealed)? (It was revealed in this context) that the Ansar in the Days of Ignorance pronounced the Talbiya for two idols. (fixed on the bank of the river which were called Isaf and Na'ila. The people went there, and then circumambulated between al-Safa' and al-Marwahh and then got their heads shaved. With the advent of Islam they (the Muslims) did not like to circumambulate between them as they used to do during the Days of Ignorance. It was on account of this that Allah the Exalted and Majestic, revealed: "Verily al-Safe and al-Marwahh are among the Signs of Allah" to the end of the verse. She said: Then people began to observe Sa'i.
Hadith 1278
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ يَكْرَهُونَ أَنْ يَطُوفُوا بَيْنَ الصَّفَا ، وَالْمَرْوَةِ ، حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ : إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ فَمَنْ حَجَّ الْبَيْتَ أَوِ اعْتَمَرَ فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَطَّوَّفَ بِهِمَا سورة البقرة آية 158 " .
Anas (RA) reported that the Ansar felt reluctant that they should circumambulate between al-Safa' and al-Marwah until it was revealed: "Verily al-Safa' and al-Marwah are among the Signs of Allah"; so whoever performs Hajj or 'Umrah, for him there is no harm that he should circumambulate between them.
Hadith 1289
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى صَلَاةً إِلَّا لِمِيقَاتِهَا ، إِلَّا صَلَاتَيْنِ صَلَاةَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ بِجَمْعٍ ، وَصَلَّى الْفَجْرَ يَوْمَئِذٍ قَبْلَ مِيقَاتِهَا " ،
A'bdullah (b. 'Umar) reported: I have never seen Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) but observing the prayers at their appointed times except two players, sunset and 'Isha, ' at Muzdalifa (where he deferred the sunset prayer to combine it with 'Isha' and he observed the dawn prayer before its stipulated time on that day (10th of Dhu'l-Hijja).
Hadith 1296
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، قَالَ : رَمَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ جَمْرَةَ الْعَقَبَةِ مِنْ بَطْنِ الْوَادِي بِسَبْعِ حَصَيَاتٍ ، يُكَبِّرُ مَعَ كُلِّ حَصَاةٍ ، قَالَ : فَقِيلَ لَهُ : إِنَّ أُنَاسًا يَرْمُونَهَا مِنْ فَوْقِهَا ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ : هَذَا وَالَّذِي لَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُهُ مَقَامُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ سُورَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ " .
'Abdul Rahman bin Yazid reported that 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (RA) threw seven pebbles at Jamrat al-'Aqabahh from the heart of the valley. He pronounced Takbir with every pebble. It was said to him that people fling stones from the upper side (of the valley), whereupon 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (Allah he pleased with them) said: By him, besides Whom there is no other God, that is the place (of flinging stones) of one upon whom Surah al-Baqarah was revealed (the Holy Prophet).
