Hadith 775
وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، أَنَّ الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيّ حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَرَقَهُ ، وَفَاطِمَةَ ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَا تُصَلُّونَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنَّمَا أَنْفُسُنَا بِيَدِ اللَّهِ ، فَإِذَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنَا بَعَثَنَا ، فَانْصَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ قُلْتُ لَهُ ذَلِكَ ، ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُهُ وَهُوَ مُدْبِرٌ يَضْرِبُ فَخِذَهُ ، وَيَقُولُ : وَكَانَ الإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلًا " .
Husain bin 'Ali narrated on the authority of (his father) 'Ali bin Abu Talib that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) came one night to see him ('Ali) and Fatimah (the daughter of the Holy Prophet) and said: Don't you observe (Tahajjud) prayer? I ('Ali) said: Messenger of Allah, verily our souls are in the hands of Allah and when He wants to awaken us, He awakens us. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went back when I said this to him. He was striking his hand on his thigh while returning, and I heard him say: Verily the man disputes with many things.

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) (peace be upon him) kissed (his wives) while fasting.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ غُنْدَرٍ ، قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى : حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ ، عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ مَوْلَى عَائِشَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَرْبَعٍ مَضَيْنَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ أَوْ خَمْسٍ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيَّ وَهُوَ غَضْبَانُ ، فَقُلْتُ : مَنْ أَغْضَبَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَدْخَلَهُ اللَّهُ النَّارَ ؟ ، قَالَ : " أَوَمَا شَعَرْتِ أَنِّي أَمَرْتُ النَّاسَ بِأَمْرٍ ، فَإِذَا هُمْ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ " ، قَالَ الْحَكَمُ : كَأَنَّهُمْ يَتَرَدَّدُونَ ، أَحْسِبُ ، " وَلَوْ أَنِّي اسْتَقْبَلْتُ مِنْ أَمْرِي مَا اسْتَدْبَرْتُ ، مَا سُقْتُ الْهَدْيَ مَعِي حَتَّى أَشْتَرِيَهُ ، ثُمَّ أَحِلُّ كَمَا حَلُّوا " ،
'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out on the 4th or 5th of Dhul'I-Hijja (for Pilgrimage to Makkah) and came to me, and he was very angry. I said: Messenger of Allah, who has annoyed you? May Allah cast him in fire. He said: Don't you know that I commanded the people to do an act, but they are hesitant. (Hakam said: I think that he said: They seem to be hesitant.) And if I were to know my affair before what I had to do subsequently, I would not have brought with me the sacrificial animals, and would have bought them (at Makkah) and would have put off Ihram as others have done.

وحَدَّثَنَاه عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ سَمِعَ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ ، عَنْ ذَكْوَانَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَرْبَعٍ أَوْ خَمْسٍ مَضَيْنَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ " ، بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ غُنْدَرٍ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الشَّكَّ مِنَ الْحَكَمِ فِي قَوْلِهِ : يَتَرَدَّدُونَ .
A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) came out (for Pilgrimage) on the 4th or 5th of Dhu'l Hijja. The rest of the hadith is the same, but he (the narrator) made no mention of the doubt of Hakam about his (the Prophet's) words: "They were reluctant."

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، وَحَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ : أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ حُسَيْنٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ : أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ ، أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ حَارِثَةَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَتَنْزِلُ فِي دَارِكَ بِمَكَّةَ ، فقَالَ : " وَهَلْ تَرَكَ لَنَا عَقِيلٌ مِنْ رِبَاعٍ أَوْ دُورٍ " ، وَكَانَ عَقِيلٌ وَرِثَ أَبَا طَالِبٍ هُوَ وَطَالِبٌ ، وَلَمْ يَرِثْهُ جَعْفَرٌ ، وَلَا عَلِيٌّ شَيْئًا ، لِأَنَّهُمَا كَانَا مُسْلِمَيْنِ ، وَكَانَ عَقِيلٌ ، وَطَالِبٌ كَافِرَيْنِ .
Usama bin Zaid bin Haritha (RA) said to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) : Will you stay in your house at Makkah (which you abandoned at the time of migration)? Thereupon he said: Has 'Aqil left for us any land or house? And 'Aqil and Talib became the Inheritors of Abu Talib's (property), and neither Ja'far nor 'Ali inherited anything from him, for both (Ja'far and 'Ali) were Muslims whereas 'Aqil and Talib were non-Muslims.

حدثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ الرَّازِيُّ ، وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قَالَ ابْنُ مِهْرَانَ : حدثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَيْنَ تَنْزِلُ غَدًا ؟ وَذَلِكَ فِي حَجَّتِهِ حِينَ دَنَوْنَا مِنْ مَكَّةَ فقَالَ : " وَهَلْ تَرَكَ لَنَا عَقِيلٌ مَنْزِلًا " .
Usama bin Zaid (RA) said: Allah's Messenger, where will we stay tomorrow? And it was at the time when we were close to Makkah for hajj). Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Has 'Aqil left any accommodation for us?

وحَدَّثَنِيهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، حدثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حدثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ ، وَزَمْعَةُ بْنُ صَالِح ، قَالَا : حدثنا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَيْنَ تَنْزِلُ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ؟ وَذَلِكَ زَمَنَ الْفَتْح ، قَالَ : " وَهَلْ تَرَكَ لَنَا عَقِيلٌ مِنْ مَنْزِلٍ " .

وحَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ بْنُ رُشَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُطَرِّفٍ أَبِي غَسَّانَ الْمَدَنِيِّ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ ابْنِ مَرْجَانَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنْ أَعْتَقَ رَقَبَةً ، أَعْتَقَ اللَّهُ بِكُلِّ عُضْوٍ مِنْهَا عُضْوًا مِنْ أَعْضَائِهِ مِنَ النَّارِ ، حَتَّى فَرْجَهُ بِفَرْجِهِ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who emancipates a slave, Allah will set free from Hell every limb (of his body) for every limb of his (slave's) body, even his private parts.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَإِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى ، قَالَ يَحْيَى : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ، عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ : أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " لَا يَرِثُ الْمُسْلِمُ الْكَافِرَ وَلَا يَرِثُ الْكَافِرُ الْمُسْلِمَ " .
Usama bin Zaid reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: A Muslim is not entitled to inherit from a non-Muslim, and a non-Muslim is not entitled to inherit from a Muslim.

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي التَّمِيمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، قَالَ : " أَصَبْتُ شَارِفًا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَغْنَمٍ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ ، وَأَعْطَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَارِفًا أُخْرَى ، فَأَنَخْتُهُمَا يَوْمًا عِنْدَ بَابِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَحْمِلَ عَلَيْهِمَا إِذْخِرًا لِأَبِيعَهُ وَمَعِي صَائِغٌ مِنْ بَنِي قَيْنُقَاعَ ، فَأَسْتَعِينَ بِهِ عَلَى وَلِيمَةِ فَاطِمَةَ ، وَحَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ يَشْرَبُ فِي ذَلِكَ الْبَيْتِ مَعَهُ قَيْنَةٌ تُغَنِّيهِ ، فَقَالَتْ : أَلَا يَا حَمْزُ لِلشُّرُفِ النِّوَاءِ ، فَثَارَ إِلَيْهِمَا حَمْزَةُ بِالسَّيْفِ ، فَجَبَّ أَسْنِمَتَهُمَا وَبَقَرَ خَوَاصِرَهُمَا ثُمَّ أَخَذَ مِنْ أَكْبَادِهِمَا ، قُلْتُ لِابْنِ شِهَابٍ : وَمِنَ السَّنَامِ ؟ ، قَالَ : قَدْ جَبَّ أَسْنِمَتَهُمَا فَذَهَبَ بِهَا ، قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ : قَالَ عَلِيٌّ : فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى مَنْظَرٍ أَفْظَعَنِي ، فَأَتَيْتُ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ ، فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ الْخَبَرَ ، فَخَرَجَ وَمَعَهُ زَيْدٌ ، وَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَى حَمْزَةَ فَتَغَيَّظَ عَلَيْهِ ، فَرَفَعَ حَمْزَةُ بَصَرَهُ ، فَقَالَ : هَلْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا عَبِيدٌ لِآبَائِي ، فَرَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُقَهْقِرُ حَتَّى خَرَجَ عَنْهُمْ " .
'Ali bin Abu Talib reported; There fell to my lot along with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) an old she-camel from the spoils of Badr. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) granted me another camel. I made them kneel down one day at the door of an Ansari, and I wanted to carry on them Idhkhir (a kind of grass) in order to sell that. There was with me a goldsmith of the tribe of Qainuqa'. I saught to give a wedding feast (on the occasion of marriage with) Fatima with the help of that (the price accrued from the sale of this grass). And Hamza bin 'Abdul Muttalib was busy in drinking in that house in the company of a singing girl who was singing to him. She said: Hamza, get up for slaughtering the fat she-camels. Hamza attacked them with the sword and cut off their humps and ripped their haunches, and then took out their livers. I said to Ibn Shihab: Did he take out anything from the hump? He said: He cut off the humps altogether. Ibn Shihab reported 'Ali having said: I saw this (horrible) sight and it shocked me, and I came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and there was Zaid bin Haritha with him and communicated to him this news. He came in the company of Zaid and I also went along with him and he went to Hamza and he expressed anger with him. Hamza raised his eyes and said: Are you (not) but the servants of my father? Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) turned back on his heels (on hearing this) until he went away from them.

وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ كَثِيرِ بْنِ عُفَيْرٍ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ الْمِصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، أَنَّ حُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا ، قَالَ : " كَانَتْ لِي شَارِفٌ مِنْ نَصِيبِي مِنَ الْمَغْنَمِ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْطَانِي شَارِفًا مِنَ الْخُمُسِ يَوْمَئِذٍ ، فَلَمَّا أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَبْتَنِيَ بِفَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاعَدْتُ رَجُلًا صَوَّاغًا مِنْ بَنِي قَيْنُقَاعَ يَرْتَحِلُ مَعِيَ ، فَنَأْتِي بِإِذْخِرٍ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَبِيعَهُ مِنَ الصَّوَّاغِينَ ، فَأَسْتَعِينَ بِهِ فِي وَلِيمَةِ عُرْسِي ، فَبَيْنَا أَنَا أَجْمَعُ لِشَارِفَيَّ مَتَاعًا مِنَ الْأَقْتَابِ وَالْغَرَائِرِ وَالْحِبَالِ وَشَارِفَايَ مُنَاخَانِ إِلَى جَنْبِ حُجْرَةِ رَجُلٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ وَجَمَعْتُ حِينَ جَمَعْتُ مَا جَمَعْتُ ، فَإِذَا شَارِفَايَ قَدِ اجْتُبَّتْ أَسْنِمَتُهُمَا وَبُقِرَتْ خَوَاصِرُهُمَا وَأُخِذَ مِنْ أَكْبَادِهِمَا ، فَلَمْ أَمْلِكْ عَيْنَيَّ حِينَ رَأَيْتُ ذَلِكَ الْمَنْظَرَ مِنْهُمَا ، قُلْتُ : مَنْ فَعَلَ هَذَا ؟ ، قَالُوا : فَعَلَهُ حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ وَهُوَ فِي هَذَا الْبَيْتِ فِي شَرْبٍ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ غَنَّتْهُ قَيْنَةٌ وَأَصْحَابَهُ ، فَقَالَتْ فِي غِنَائِهَا : أَلَا يَا حَمْزُ لِلشُّرُفِ النِّوَاءِ ؟ ، فَقَامَ حَمْزَةُ بِالسَّيْفِ فَاجْتَبَّ أَسْنِمَتَهُمَا وَبَقَرَ خَوَاصِرَهُمَا ، فَأَخَذَ مِنْ أَكْبَادِهِمَا ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ : فَانْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى أَدْخُلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ ، قَالَ : فَعَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي وَجْهِيَ الَّذِي لَقِيتُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : مَا لَكَ ؟ ، قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، وَاللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْتُ كَالْيَوْمِ قَطُّ عَدَا حَمْزَةُ عَلَى نَاقَتَيَّ فَاجْتَبَّ أَسْنِمَتَهُمَا وَبَقَرَ خَوَاصِرَهُمَا وَهَهُوَ ذَا فِي بَيْتٍ مَعَهُ شَرْبٌ ، قَالَ فَدَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِرِدَائِهِ فَارْتَدَاهُ ثُمَّ انْطَلَقَ يَمْشِي وَاتَّبَعْتُهُ أَنَا وَزَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ حَتَّى جَاءَ الْبَابَ الَّذِي فِيهِ حَمْزَةُ ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَ فَأَذِنُوا لَهُ ، فَإِذَا هُمْ شَرْبٌ فَطَفِقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَلُومُ حَمْزَةَ فِيمَا فَعَلَ ، فَإِذَا حَمْزَةُ مُحْمَرَّةٌ عَيْنَاهُ ، فَنَظَرَ حَمْزَةُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ صَعَّدَ النَّظَرَ إِلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَعَّدَ النَّظَرَ فَنَظَرَ إِلَى سُرَّتِهِ ثُمَّ صَعَّدَ النَّظَرَ فَنَظَرَ إِلَى وَجْهِهِ ، فَقَالَ حَمْزَةُ : وَهَلْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا عَبِيدٌ لِأَبِي ، فَعَرَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ ثَمِلٌ ، فَنَكَصَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى عَقِبَيْهِ الْقَهْقَرَى وَخَرَجَ وَخَرَجْنَا مَعَهُ " .
Husain bin 'Ali reported 'Ali having said: There fell to my lot a she-camel out of the spoils of war on the Day of Badr, and Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) gave me (another) she-camel on that day out of the Khums (one-fifth reserved for Allah and His Messenger). When I made up my mind to consummate my marriage with Fatima, the daughter of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , I prevailed upon a goldsmith of the tribe of Qainuqa' to go along with me so that we might bring Idhkhir wishing to sell that to the goldsmiths and thus I should be able to arrange my wedding feast. While I was arranging the equipments, i. e. litters, sacks and ropes, my two she-camels were sitting down at the side of the apartment of a person of the Ansar. I collected (the different articles of equipment) and found to my surprise that their humps had been chopped off and their haunches had been cut off and their livers had been taken out. I could not help weeping when I saw that plight of theirs. I said: Who has done that? They said: Hamza bin 'Abdul Muttalib has done this. and he is in this house dead drunk in the company of some of the Ansar with a singing girl singing before him and his companions. She said in her song: O Hamza, get up and attack these falty she-camels. Thereupon Hamza stood up with a sword (in his hand) and cut off their humps and ripped their haunches and tore out their livers. 'Ali said: I went away until I came to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and there was with him Zaid bin Haritha. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) recognised from my face what I had experienced, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: What has happened to you? I said: Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I have never seen (such an unfortunate day) as this day. Hamza has committed aggression to my she-camels, and has cut off their humps. and ripped their haunches, and he is in a house in the company of some drunkards. (Hearing this) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) sent for his mantle and, putting it on him, he proceeded, and I and Zaid bin Haritha followed him, until he came to the door (of the house) in which there was Hamza. He (the Holy Prophet) sought permission which they granted him. They were all drunk. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) began to reprimand Hamza for what he had done. Hamza's eyes were red. He cast a glance at Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and then looked towards his knees, and then lifted his eyes and cast a glance at his waist and then lifted his eyes and saw his face. And then Hamza said: Are you anything but the slaves of my father? Alah's Messenger (ﷺ) came to know that he was intoxicated, and he thus turned upon his heels, and came out, and we also came out along with him.

وحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حميد ، وتقاربا في اللفظ ، قالا : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ حُيَيٍّ ، قالت : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُعْتَكِفًا فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَزُورُهُ لَيْلًا ، فَحَدَّثْتُهُ ثُمَّ قُمْتُ لِأَنْقَلِبَ ، فَقَامَ مَعِيَ لِيَقْلِبَنِي ، وَكَانَ مَسْكَنُهَا فِي دَارِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ فَمَرَّ رَجُلَانِ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْرَعَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " عَلَى رِسْلِكُمَا إِنَّهَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَيٍّ " ، فَقَالَا : سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَجْرِي مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ مَجْرَى الدَّمِ ، وَإِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَقْذِفَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمَا شَرًّا أَوَ قَالَ شَيْئًا " .
Safiyya daughter of Huyyay (the wife of Allah's Apostle) (ﷺ) reported that while Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had been observing I'tikaf, I came to visit him one night and talked with him for some time. Then I stood up to go back and he (Allah's Apostle) (ﷺ) also stood up with me in order to bid me good-bye. She was at that time residing in the house of Usama bin Zaid. The two persons from the Ansar happened to pass by him. When they saw Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) , they began to walk swiftly. Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to them: Walk calmy, she is Safiyya daughter of Huyyay... Both of them said: Messenger, hallowed be Allah, we cannot conceive of being doubtful even in the remotest corners of our minds), whereupon He said: Satan circulates in the body of man like the circulation of blood and I was afraid lest it should instill any evil in your heart or anything.

وحدثينيه عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّارِمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ ، أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا جَاءَتْ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَزُورُهُ فِي اعْتِكَافِهِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ ، فَتَحَدَّثَتْ عِنْدَهُ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ قَامَتْ تَنْقَلِبُ ، وَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْلِبُهَا ، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ بِمَعْنَى حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَبْلُغُ مِنَ الْإِنْسَانِ مَبْلَغَ الدَّمِ " وَلَمْ يَقُلْ يَجْرِي .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Safiyya, the wife of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) , through another chain of transmitters (and the words) are: "She went to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) to visit him as he was observing I'tikaf in the mosque during Ramadan. She talked with him for some time and then stood up to go back and Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) stood up in order to bid her good-bye." The rest of the hadith is the same except with the variation of the words that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) said: "Satan penetrates in man like the penetration of blood (in every part of body)."

حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْد ، قَالَ حَسَنٌ : حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ ، وَقَالَ عَبد : حَدَّثَنِي يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، حدثنا أبى عَنْ صَالِحٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، قال : أَخْبَرَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ ، أَنَّهُمْ بَيْنَمَا هُمْ جُلُوسٌ لَيْلَةً مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، رُمِيَ بِنَجْمٍ فَاسْتَنَارَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَاذَا كُنْتُمْ تَقُولُونَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ إِذَا رُمِيَ بِمِثْلِ هَذَا ؟ " ، قَالُوا : اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، كُنَّا نَقُولُ وُلِدَ اللَّيْلَةَ رَجُلٌ عَظِيمٌ وَمَاتَ رَجُلٌ عَظِيمٌ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " فَإِنَّهَا لَا يُرْمَى بِهَا لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ ، وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ ، وَلَكِنْ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى اسْمُهُ ، إِذَا قَضَى أَمْرًا سَبَّحَ حَمَلَةُ الْعَرْشِ ، ثُمَّ سَبَّحَ أَهْلُ السَّمَاءِ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ التَّسْبِيحُ أَهْلَ هَذِهِ السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا ، ثُمَّ قَالَ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَ حَمَلَةَ الْعَرْشِ لِحَمَلَةِ الْعَرْشِ : مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ ؟ ، فَيُخْبِرُونَهُمْ مَاذَا قَالَ ، قَالَ : فَيَسْتَخْبِرُ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ السَّمَاوَاتِ بَعْضًا حَتَّى يَبْلُغَ الْخَبَرُ هَذِهِ السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا ، فَتَخْطَفُ الْجِنُّ السَّمْعَ فَيَقْذِفُونَ إِلَى أَوْلِيَائِهِمْ وَيُرْمَوْنَ بِهِ ، فَمَا جَاءُوا بِهِ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَهُوَ حَقٌّ ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ يَقْرِفُونَ فِيهِ ، وَيَزِيدُونَ " .
'Abdullah. Ibn 'Abbas reported: A person from the Ansar who was amongst the Companions of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) reported to me: As we were sitting during the night with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , a meteor shot gave a dazzling light. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: What did you say in the pre-Islamic days when there was such a shot (of meteor)? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best (the actual position), but we, however, used to say that that very night a great man had been born and a great man had died, whereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: (These meteors) are shot neither at the death of anyone nor on the birth of anyone. Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, issues Command when He decides to do a thing. Then (the Angels) supporting the Throne sing His glory, then sing the dwellers of heaven who are near to them until this glory of God reaches them who are in the heaven of this world. Then those who are near the supporters of the Throne ask these supporters of the Throne: What has your Lord said? And they accordingly inform them what He says. Then the dwellers of heaven seek information from them until this information reaches the heaven of the world. In this process of transmission (the jinn snatches) what he manages to overhear and he carries it to his friends. And when the Angels see the jinn they attack them with meteors. If they narrate only which they manage to snatch that is correct but they alloy it with lies and make additions to it.

حَدَّثَنِي أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ الدُّؤَلِيُّ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَهُ ، أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ حَدَّثَهُ ، " أَنَّهُمْ حِينَ قَدِمُوا الْمَدِينَةَ مِنْ عِنْدِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ مَقْتَلَ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، لَقِيَهُ الْمِسْوَرُ بْنُ مَخْرَمَةَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ : هَلْ لَكَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ حَاجَةٍ تَأْمُرُنِي بِهَا ؟ قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : لَا ، قَالَ لَهُ : هَلْ أَنْتَ مُعْطِيَّ سَيْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَغْلِبَكَ الْقَوْمُ عَلَيْهِ ، وَايْمُ اللَّهِ لَئِنْ أَعْطَيْتَنِيهِ ، لَا يُخْلَصُ إِلَيْهِ أَبَدًا حَتَّى تَبْلُغَ نَفْسِي ، إِنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ عَلَى فَاطِمَةَ ، فَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ فِي ذَلِكَ عَلَى مِنْبَرِهِ هَذَا ، وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ مُحْتَلِمٌ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ فَاطِمَةَ مِنِّي ، وَإِنِّي أَتَخَوَّفُ أَنْ تُفْتَنَ فِي دِينِهَا ، قَالَ : ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ صِهْرًا لَهُ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ ، فَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ فِي مُصَاهَرَتِهِ إِيَّاهُ ، فَأَحْسَنَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي فَصَدَقَنِي وَوَعَدَنِي ، فَأَوْفَى لِي ، وَإِنِّي لَسْتُ أُحَرِّمُ حَلَالًا ، وَلَا أُحِلُّ حَرَامًا ، وَلَكِنْ وَاللَّهِ لَا تَجْتَمِعُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَبِنْتُ عَدُوِّ اللَّهِ مَكَانًا وَاحِدًا أَبَدًا " .
(Imam Zain-ul-'Abidin) 'Ali bin Husain reported that when they came to Madinah from Yazid bin Mu'awiyah after the martyrdom of Husain bin 'Ali (RA) Miswar bin Makhramah met him and said to him: Is there any work for me which you ask me to do? I said to him: No. He again said to me: Would you not give me the sword of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) for I fear that the people may snatch it from you? By Allah, if you give that to me, no one would be able to take it away, so long as there is life in me. Verily ' Ali Ibn Abi Talib (RA) sent a proposal of marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl in spite of (the fact that his wife) Fatima (had been living in his house). Thereupon I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say while addressing the people on the pulpit. I was adolescing in those days. He said: Fatima is a part of me and I fear that she may be put to trial in regard to religion. He then made a mention of his son-in law who had been from the tribe of 'Abd Shams and praised his behaviour as a son-in-law and said: Whatever he said to me he told the truth and whatever he promised he fulfilled it for me. I am not going to declare forbidden what is lawful and make lawful what is forbidden, but, by Allah, the daaghter of Allah's Messenger and the daughter of the enemy of Allah can never be combined at one place.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدَّارِمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُسَيْنٍ ، أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ : " أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ خَطَبَ بِنْتَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ ، وَعِنْدَهُ فَاطِمَةُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعَتْ بِذَلِكَ فَاطِمَةُ ، أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ لَهُ : إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ أَنَّكَ لَا تَغْضَبُ لِبَنَاتِكَ ، وَهَذَا عَلِيٌّ نَاكِحًا ابْنَةَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ ، قَالَ الْمِسْوَرُ : فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَمِعْتُهُ حِينَ تَشَهَّدَ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : أَمَّا بَعْدُ ، فَإِنِّي أَنْكَحْتُ أَبَا الْعَاصِ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ ، فَحَدَّثَنِي فَصَدَقَنِي ، وَإِنَّ فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ مُحَمَّدٍ مُضْغَةٌ مِنِّي ، وَإِنَّمَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَفْتِنُوهَا ، وَإِنَّهَا وَاللَّهِ لَا تَجْتَمِعُ بِنْتُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ، وَبِنْتُ عَدُوِّ اللَّهِ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ وَاحِدٍ أَبَدًا ، قَالَ : فَتَرَكَ عَلِيٌّ الْخِطْبَةَ " .
'Ali bin Husain reported that Miswar bin Makhramah informed him that ' Ali Ibn Abi Talib (RA) sent the proposal of marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl as he had Fatima, the daughter of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) , (as his wife). When Fatima heard about it, she came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and said: The people say that you never feel angry on account of your daughters and now 'Ali is going to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl. Makhramah said: Thereupon Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) rose up and I heard him reciting Tashahhud and say: Now to the point. I gave a daughter of mine (Zainab) to Abu'l-'As bin Rabi, and he spoke to me and spoke the truth. Verily Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad, is a part of me and I do not approve that she may be put to any trial and by Allah, the daughter of Allah's Messenger cannot be combined with the daughter of God's enemy (as the co-wives) of one person. Thereupon 'Ali gave up (the idea of his intended) marriage.
