Hadith 714
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ ، عَنْ أَشْعَثَ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، قَالَ : كَانَ " آخِرُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ لَا أَتَّخِذَ مُؤَذِّنًا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى الْأَذَانِ أَجْرًا " .
´It was narrated that 'Uthman bin Abul-As said:` "The last instruction that the Messenger of Allah gave to me was that I should not appoint a Mu'adh-dhin who took payment for the Adhan." (sahih)
Hadith 743
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو هَمَّامٍ الدَّلَّالُ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عِيَاضٍ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، أَنَّ ّرَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ مَسْجِدَ الطَّائِفِ حَيْثُ كَانَ طَاغِيَتُهُمْ " .
´It was narrated from 'Uthman bin Abul-'As that:` The Messenger of Allah commanded him to build the mosque of Ta'if in the place where the Taghuts used to be.
Hadith 987
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، يَقُولُ : كَانَ آخِرُ مَا عَهِدَ إِلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَمَّرَنِي عَلَى الطَّائِفِ قَالَ لِي : " يَا عُثْمَانُ " تَجَاوَزْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ ، وَاقْدِرِ النَّاسَ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ ، فَإِنَّ فِيهِمُ الْكَبِيرَ ، وَالصَّغِيرَ ، وَالسَّقِيمَ ، وَالْبَعِيدَ ، وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ " .
´It was narrated that Mutarrif bin ‘Abdullah bin Shikhkhir said:` “I heard ‘Uthman bin Abul-‘As say: “The last thing that the Prophet (ﷺ) enjoined on me when he appointed me governor of Ta’if was that he said: “O ‘Uthman! Be tolerable in prayer and estimate the people based upon the weakest among them, for among them are the elderly, the young, the sick, those who live far from the mosque, and those who have pressing needs.”
Hadith 988
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيل ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، أَنَّ آخِرَ مَا قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا أَمَمْتَ قَوْمًا فَأَخِفَّ بِهِمْ " .
´‘Uthman bin Abul-‘As narrated that the last thing the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) enjoined on him was that he said:` “When you lead people, keep it short for them.”
Hadith 990
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ أَبِي كَرِيمَةَ الْحَرَّانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُلَاثَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنِّي لَأَسْمَعُ بُكَاءَ الصَّبِيِّ فَأَتَجَوَّزُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ " .
´It was narrated that ‘Uthman bin Abul-‘As said:` “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘I hear an infant crying so I make the prayer short.’”
Hadith 3522
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ , حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ , عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ خُصَيْفَةَ , عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ , عَنْ نَافِعِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ , عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ الثَّقَفِيِّ , أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قَدِمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبِي وَجَعٌ قَدْ كَادَ يُبْطِلُنِي , فَقَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " اجْعَلْ يَدَكَ الْيُمْنَى عَلَيْهِ , وَقُلْ : بِسْمِ اللَّهِ , أَعُوذُ بِعِزَّةِ اللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ " , سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ , فَقُلْتُ ذَلِكَ : فَشَفَانِيَ اللَّهُ .
´It was narrated that ‘Uthman bin Abul-‘As Thaqafi said:` “I came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and I was suffering pain that was killing me. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to me: ‘Put your right hand on it and say: Bismillah, a’udhu bi’izzatil-lahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru. (In the Name of Allah, I seek refuge in the might and power of Allah from the evil of what I feel and what I fear),” seven times.’ I said that, and Allah healed me.”
Hadith 3548
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ , حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ , حَدَّثَنِي عُيَيْنَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ , حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي , عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ , قَالَ : لَمَّا اسْتَعْمَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الطَّائِفِ , جَعَلَ يَعْرِضُ لِي شَيْءٌ فِي صَلَاتِي حَتَّى مَا أَدْرِي مَا أُصَلِّي , فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتُ ذَلِكَ رَحَلْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَالَ : " ابْنُ أَبِي الْعَاصِ " , قُلْتُ : نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ : " مَا جَاءَ بِكَ " , قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , عَرَضَ لِي شَيْءٌ فِي صَلَوَاتِي حَتَّى مَا أَدْرِي مَا أُصَلِّي , قَالَ : " ذَاكَ الشَّيْطَانُ ادْنُهْ " , فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ , فَجَلَسْتُ عَلَى صُدُورِ قَدَمَيَّ , قَالَ : فَضَرَبَ صَدْرِي بِيَدِهِ , وَتَفَلَ فِي فَمِي , وَقَالَ : " اخْرُجْ عَدُوَّ اللَّهِ " , فَفَعَلَ ذَلِكَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " الْحَقْ بِعَمَلِكَ " , قَالَ : فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ : فَلَعَمْرِي مَا أَحْسِبُهُ خَالَطَنِي بَعْدُ .
´It was narrated that ‘Uthman bin Abul-‘As said:` “When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) appointed me as governor of Ta’if, I began to get confused during my prayer, until I no longer knew what I was doing. When I noticed that, I travelled to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), and he said: ‘The son of Abul-‘As?’ I said: ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah.’ He said: ‘What brings you here?’ He said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I get confused during my prayer, until I do not know what I am doing.’ He said: ‘That is Satan. Come here.’ So I came close to him, and sat upon the front part of my feet then he struck my chest with his hand and put some spittle in my mouth and said: ‘Get out, O enemy of Allah!’ He did that three times, then he said: ‘Get on with your work.’” ‘Uthman said: “Indeed, I never felt confused (during my prayer) after that.”
