Hadith 1415
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ الْحَكَمُ هُوَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْبَصْرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ , قَالَ : " لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الصَّدَقَةِ كُنَّا نُحَامِلُ ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَتَصَدَّقَ بِشَيْءٍ كَثِيرٍ ، فَقَالُوا : مُرَائِي ، وَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَتَصَدَّقَ بِصَاعٍ ، فَقَالُوا : إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَنِيٌّ عَنْ صَاعِ هَذَا , فَنَزَلَتِ : الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي الصَّدَقَاتِ وَالَّذِينَ لا يَجِدُونَ إِلا جُهْدَهُمْ سورة التوبة آية 79 " .
Narrated Abu Mas`ud: When the verses of charity were revealed, we used to work as porters. A man came and distributed objects of charity in abundance. And they (the people) said, "He is showing off." And another man came and gave a Sa (a small measure of food grains); they said, "Allah is not in need of this small amount of charity." And then the Divine Inspiration came: "Those who criticize such of the believers who give in charity voluntarily and those who could not find to give in charity except what is available to them." (9.79).
Hadith 2531
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا قَدِمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قُلْتُ فِي الطَّرِيقِ : يَا لَيْلَةً مِنْ طُولِهَا وَعَنَائِهَا عَلَى أَنَّهَا مِنْ دَارَةِ الْكُفْرِ نَجَّتِ " ، قَالَ : وَأَبَقَ مِنِّي غُلَامٌ لِي فِي الطَّرِيقِ ، قَالَ : فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَايَعْتُهُ ، فَبَيْنَا أَنَا عِنْدَهُ إِذْ طَلَعَ الْغُلَامُ ، فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ، هَذَا غُلَامُكَ ؟ فَقُلْتُ : هُوَ حُرٌّ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ ، فَأَعْتَقْتُهُ " . قَالَ أَبُو عَبْد اللَّهِ : لَمْ يَقُلْ أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ حُرٌّ .
Narrated Abu Huraira: On my way to the Prophet I was reciting:-- 'What a long tedious tiresome night! Nevertheless, it has saved us From the land of Kufr (disbelief).' I had a slave who ran away from me on the way. When I went to the Prophet and gave the pledge of allegiance for embracing Islam, the slave showed up while I was still with the Prophet who remarked, "O Abu Huraira! Here is your slave!" I said, "I manumit him for Allah's Sake," and so I freed him.
Hadith 2591
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ فَاطِمَةَ ، عَنْ أَسْمَاءَ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " أَنْفِقِي ، وَلَا تُحْصِي فَيُحْصِيَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ ، وَلَا تُوعِي فَيُوعِيَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكِ " .
Narrated Asma: Allah's Apostle said, "Give (in charity) and do not give reluctantly lest Allah should give you in a limited amount; and do not withhold your money lest Allah should withhold it from you."
Hadith 2664
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَرَضَهُ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَرْبَعَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ، فَلَمْ يُجِزْنِي ، ثُمَّ عَرَضَنِي يَوْمَ الْخَنْدَقِ وَأَنَا ابْنُ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ سَنَةً ، فَأَجَازَنِي ، قَالَ نَافِعٌ : فَقَدِمْتُ عَلَى عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ وَهُوَ خَلِيفَةٌ ، فَحَدَّثْتُهُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّ هَذَا لَحَدٌّ بَيْنَ الصَّغِيرِ وَالْكَبِيرِ ، وَكَتَبَ إِلَى عُمَّالِهِ أَنْ يَفْرِضُوا لِمَنْ بَلَغَ خَمْسَ عَشْرَةَ " .
Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Apostle called me to present myself in front of him or the eve of the battle of Uhud, while I was fourteen years of age at that time, and he did not allow me to take part in that battle, but he called me in front of him on the eve of the battle of the Trench when I was fifteen years old, and he allowed me (to join the battle)." Nafi` said, "I went to `Umar bin `Abdul `Aziz who was Caliph at that time and related the above narration to him, He said, "This age (fifteen) is the limit between childhood and manhood," and wrote to his governors to give salaries to those who reached the age of fifteen.
Hadith 3859
حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ بْنُ أُسَامَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ ، عَنْ مَعْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، قَالَ : سَأَلْتُ مَسْرُوقًا مَنْ آذَنَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْجِنِّ لَيْلَةَ اسْتَمَعُوا الْقُرْآنَ " ؟ فَقَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي أَبُوكَ يَعْنِي عَبْدَ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ آذَنَتْ بِهِمْ شَجَرَةٌ .
Narrated `Abdur-Rahman: "I asked Masruq, 'Who informed the Prophet about the Jinns at the night when they heard the Qur'an?' He said, 'Your father `Abdullah informed me that a tree informed the Prophet about them.' "
Hadith 3930
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، قَالَتْ : " كَانَ يَوْمُ بُعَاثٍ يَوْمًا قَدَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِرَسُولِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , فَقَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وَقَدِ افْتَرَقَ مَلَؤُهُمْ ، وَقُتِلَتْ سَرَاتُهُمْ فِي دُخُولِهِمْ فِي الْإِسْلَامِ " .
Narrated `Aisha: The day of Bu'ath was a day (i.e. battle) which Allah caused to take place just before the mission of His Apostle so that when Allah's Apostle came to Medina, they (the tribes) had divided (into hostile groups) and their nobles had been killed; and all that facilitated their conversion to Islam.
Hadith 4411
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي مُوسَى بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَخْبَرَهُ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : " أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَلَقَ فِي حَجَّةِ الْوَدَاعِ وَأُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ وَقَصَّرَ بَعْضُهُمْ " .
Narrated Ibn `Umar: During Hajjat-ul-Wada`, the Prophet and some of his companions got their heads shaved while some of his companions got their head-hair cut short.
Hadith 4417
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً يُخْبِرُ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي صَفْوَانُ بْنُ يَعْلَى بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ ،عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، قَالَ : غَزَوْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعُسْرَةَ ، قَالَ : كَانَ يَعْلَى يَقُولُ تِلْكَ الْغَزْوَةُ أَوْثَقُ أَعْمَالِي عِنْدِي ، قَالَ عَطَاءٌ : فَقَالَ صَفْوَانُ : قَالَ يَعْلَى : فَكَانَ لِي أَجِيرٌ ، فَقَاتَلَ إِنْسَانًا فَعَضَّ أَحَدُهُمَا يَدَ الْآخَرِ ، قَالَ عَطَاءٌ : فَلَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنِي صَفْوَانُ أَيُّهُمَا عَضَّ الْآخَرَ فَنَسِيتُهُ ، قَالَ : فَانْتَزَعَ الْمَعْضُوضُ يَدَهُ مِنْ فِي الْعَاضِّ ، فَانْتَزَعَ إِحْدَى ثَنِيَّتَيْهِ ، فَأَتَيَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَهْدَرَ ثَنِيَّتَهُ ، قَالَ عَطَاءٌ : وَحَسِبْتُ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أَفَيَدَعُ يَدَهُ فِي فِيكَ تَقْضَمُهَا كَأَنَّهَا فِي فِي فَحْلٍ يَقْضَمُهَا " .
Narrated Safwan bin Ya`la bin Umaiya: that his father said, "I participated in Al-Usra (i.e. Tabuk) along with the Prophet." Ya`la added, "(My participation in) that Ghazwa was the best of my deeds to me." Ya`la said, "I had a laborer who quarrelled with somebody, and one of the two bit the hand of the other (`Ata', the sub-narrator, said, "Safwan told me who bit whom but I forgot it"), and the one who was bitten, pulled his hand out of the mouth of the biter, so one of the incisors of the biter was broken. So we came to the Prophet and he considered the biter's claim as invalid (i.e. the biter did not get a recompense for his broken incisor). The Prophet said, "Should he leave his hand in your mouth so that you might snap it as if it were in the mouth of a male camel to snap it?"
Hadith 4529
حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْعَقَدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبَّادُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ , قَالَ : كَانَتْ لِي أُخْتٌ تُخْطَبُ إِلَيَّ , وَقَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ : عَنْ يُونُسَ , عَنْ الْحَسَنِ , حَدَّثَنِي مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ . ح حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ , حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ , عَنْ الْحَسَنِ : أَنَّ أُخْتَ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ , طَلَّقَهَا زَوْجُهَا ، فَتَرَكَهَا حَتَّى انْقَضَتْ عِدَّتُهَا ، فَخَطَبَهَا فَأَبَى مَعْقِلٌ , فَنَزَلَتْ فَلا تَعْضُلُوهُنَّ أَنْ يَنْكِحْنَ أَزْوَاجَهُنَّ سورة البقرة آية 232 " .
Narrated Al-Hasan: The sister of Ma'qal bin Yasar was divorced by her husband who left her till she had fulfilled her term of 'Iddat (i.e. the period which should elapse before she can Remarry) and then he wanted to remarry her but Maqal refused, so this Verse was revealed:-- "Do not prevent them from marrying their (former) husbands." (2.232)
Hadith 7028
حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا صَخْرُ بْنُ جُوَيْرِيَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّ رِجَالًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانُوا يَرَوْنَ الرُّؤْيَا عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَيَقُصُّونَهَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَيَقُولُ فِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ، وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ حَدِيثُ السِّنِّ وَبَيْتِي الْمَسْجِدُ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَنْكِحَ ، فَقُلْتُ فِي نَفْسِي : لَوْ كَانَ فِيكَ خَيْرٌ لَرَأَيْتَ مِثْلَ مَا يَرَى هَؤُلَاءِ ، فَلَمَّا اضْطَجَعْتُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ ، قُلْتُ : اللَّهُمَّ إِنْ كُنْتَ تَعْلَمُ فِيَّ خَيْرًا فَأَرِنِي رُؤْيَا ، فَبَيْنَمَا أَنَا كَذَلِكَ إِذْ جَاءَنِي مَلَكَانِ فِي يَدِ كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا مِقْمَعَةٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ يُقْبِلَانِ بِي إِلَى جَهَنَّمَ وَأَنَا بَيْنَهُمَا أَدْعُو اللَّهَ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ ، ثُمَّ أُرَانِي لَقِيَنِي مَلَكٌ فِي يَدِهِ مِقْمَعَةٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ ، فَقَالَ : لَنْ تُرَاعَ ، نِعْمَ الرَّجُلُ أَنْتَ لَوْ كُنْتَ تُكْثِرُ الصَّلَاةَ ، فَانْطَلَقُوا بِي حَتَّى وَقَفُوا بِي عَلَى شَفِيرِ جَهَنَّمَ ، فَإِذَا هِيَ مَطْوِيَّةٌ كَطَيِّ الْبِئْرِ لَهُ قُرُونٌ كَقَرْنِ الْبِئْرِ بَيْنَ كُلِّ قَرْنَيْنِ مَلَكٌ بِيَدِهِ مِقْمَعَةٌ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ وَأَرَى فِيهَا رِجَالًا مُعَلَّقِينَ بِالسَّلَاسِلِ رُءُوسُهُمْ أَسْفَلَهُمْ عَرَفْتُ فِيهَا رِجَالًا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ، فَانْصَرَفُوا بِي عَنْ ذَاتِ الْيَمِينِ ،
Narrated Ibn `Umar: Men from the companions of Allah's Apostle used to see dreams during the lifetime of Allah's Apostle and they used to narrate those dreams to Allah's Apostle. Allah's Apostle would interpret them as Allah wished. I was a young man and used to stay in the mosque before my wedlock. I said to myself, "If there were any good in myself, I too would see what these people see." So when I went to bed one night, I said, "O Allah! If you see any good in me, show me a good dream." So while I was in that state, there came to me (in a dream) two angels. In the hand of each of them, there was a mace of iron, and both of them were taking me to Hell, and I was between them, invoking Allah, "O Allah! I seek refuge with You from Hell." Then I saw myself being confronted by another angel holding a mace of iron in his hand. He said to me, "Do not be afraid, you will be an excellent man if you only pray more often." So they took me till they stopped me at the edge of Hell, and behold, it was built inside like a well and it had side posts like those of a well, and beside each post there was an angel carrying an iron mace. I saw therein many people hanging upside down with iron chains, and I recognized therein some men from the Quraish. Then (the angels) took me to the right side.
