Hadith 108
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِي حَدِيثِ جَرِيرٍ : وَرَجُلٌ سَاوَمَ رَجُلًا بِسِلْعَةٍ .
The same hadith has been transmitted by another chain of transmitters with the exception of these words: He offered for sale a commodity to another person.
Hadith 109
وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الأَشْعَثِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْثَرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْحَارِثِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْحَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ كُلُّهُمْ ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ ، وَفِي رِوَايَةِ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ ذَكْوَان .
This hadith has been narrated by another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 649
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ . ح ، وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارِ بْنِ الرَّيَّانِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ زَكَرِيَّاءَ . ح ، وحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ ، فِي هَذَا الإِسْنَادِ بِمِثْلِ مَعْنَاهُ .
A hadith having the same meaning (as mentioned above) has been transmitted by A'mash.
Hadith 663
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ ، عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ، قَالَ : " كَانَ رَجُلٌ ، لَا أَعْلَمُ رَجُلًا أَبْعَدَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ مِنْهُ ، وَكَانَ لَا تُخْطِئُهُ صَلَاةٌ ، قَالَ : فَقِيلَ لَهُ : أَوْ قُلْتُ لَهُ : لَوِ اشْتَرَيْتَ حِمَارًا تَرْكَبُهُ فِي الظَّلْمَاءِ ، وَفِي الرَّمْضَاءِ ؟ قَالَ : مَا يَسُرُّنِي أَنَّ مَنْزِلِي إِلَى جَنْبِ الْمَسْجِدِ ، إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ يُكْتَبَ لِي مَمْشَايَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ ، وَرُجُوعِي ، إِذَا رَجَعْتُ إِلَى أَهْلِي ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : قَدْ جَمَعَ اللَّهُ لَكَ ذَلِكَ كُلَّهُ " .
Ubayy bin Ka'b reported: There was a man, and I do not know of any other man, whose house was farther than his from the mosque and he never missed the prayer (in congregation). It was said to him or I said to him: If you were to buy a donkey you could ride upon it in the dark nights and in the burning sand. He said: I do not like my house to be situated by the side of the mosque, for I (eagerly) desire that my steps towards the mosque and back from it, should be recorded when I return to my family. Upon this the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: Allah has gathered all (rewards) for you.
Hadith 1233
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ وَبَرَةَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ جَالِسًا عِنْدَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، فَجَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : أَيَصْلُحُ لِي أَنْ أَطُوفَ بِالْبَيْتِ قَبْلَ أَنْ آتِيَ الْمَوْقِفَ ؟ ، فَقَالَ : نَعَمْ ، فَقَالَ : فَإِنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ : لَا تَطُفْ بِالْبَيْتِ حَتَّى تَأْتِيَ الْمَوْقِفَ ، فَقَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ : " فَقَدْ حَجَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَطَافَ بِالْبَيْتِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْمَوْقِفَ ، فَبِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحَقُّ أَنْ تَأْخُذَ ، أَوْ بِقَوْلِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنْ كُنْتَ صَادِقًا " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported: While I was sitting in the company of Ibn 'Umar, a person came to him and said: Is it right for me to circumambulate the House before I come to stay (at 'Arafat)? Ibn 'Umar said: Yes. whereupon he said: Ibn Abbas (RA) , however, says: Do not circumambulate the House until you come to stay at 'Arafat. Thereupon Ibn 'Umar said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) performed the Hajj and circumambulated the House before coming to stay (at 'Arafat). If you say the Truth, is it more rightful to follow the saying of the Prophet (ﷺ) or the words of Ibn Abbas (RA) ?
Hadith 1477
حدثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيل بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَت عَائِشَةُ : " قَدْ خَيَّرَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمْ نَعُدَّهُ طَلَاقًا " .
'A'isha reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) gave us the option (to get divorce) but we did not deem it as divorce.
Hadith 1994
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُنْتَبَذَ فِي الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ " ، هَذَا حَدِيثُ جَرِيرٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ عَبْثَرٍ وَشُعْبَةَ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ " .
'Ali reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade to prepare Nabidh in gourd and varnished jar. This hadith has been narrated through another chain of transmitters with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 1995
وحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ : أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنِ الدُّبَّاءِ وَالْمُزَفَّتِ " .
'A'isha reported that Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) forbade (the preparation) of Nabidh in gourd and varnished jar.
Hadith 1997
وحَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ، عَنْ مُحَارِبِ بْنِ دِثَارٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ قَالَ وَأُرَاهُ قَالَ وَالنَّقِيرِ .
Muharib bin Dithar reported a hadith like this on the authority of Ibn 'Umar through a different chain of transmitters. He (the narrator) said: I think he also made a mention of hollow stump.
Hadith 2049
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ الْحَكَمِ ، عَنْ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " الْكَمْأَةُ مِنَ الْمَنِّ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَلَى بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَمَاؤُهَا شِفَاءٌ لِلْعَيْنِ " .
Sa'id bin Zaid bin 'Amr bin Nufail reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Truffles are a kind of 'Manna' which Allah the Glorious and Exalted, sent down upon the people of Israel, and its juice is a medicine for the eyes.
Hadith 2133
حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّاهُ مُحَمَّدًا ، فَقُلْنَا : لَا نَكْنِكَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى تَسْتَأْمِرَهُ ، قَالَ : فَأَتَاهُ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّهُ وُلِدَ لِي غُلَامٌ فَسَمَّيْتُهُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّ قَوْمِي أَبَوْا أَنْ يَكْنُونِي بِهِ حَتَّى تَسْتَأْذِنَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي ، فَإِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ قَاسِمًا أَقْسِمُ بَيْنَكُمْ " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported that a child was born to one of the persons amongst us and he decided to give him the name of Muhammad We said: We will not allow you to give the name after the name of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) until you ask him (the Holy Prophet). So he (that person) came and said (to the Holy Prophet): A child was born in my house and I wanted to give him the name (of Muhammad) after the name of Allah's Messenger, whereas my people did not allow me that I should name him after that (sacred) name until I have asked Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) in this connection, whereupon he said: Give him the name after my name, but do not call him by my kunya, for I have been sent as a Qasim as I distribute amongst you.
Hadith 2297
وحَدَّثَنَاه سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ فُضَيْلٍ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ الْأَعْمَشِ ، وَمُغِيرَةَ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Hudhaifa through another chain of transmitters.
Hadith 2637
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْقَارِيَّ ، وَقَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ يَعْنِي الدَّرَاوَرْدِيَّ . ح وحَدَّثَنَاه سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ . ح وحَدَّثَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأَيْلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَنَسٍ كُلُّهُمْ ، عَنْ سُهَيْلٍ ، بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّ حَدِيثَ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ لَيْسَ فِيهِ ذِكْرُ الْبُغْضِ .
This hadith has been reported on the authority of Suhail with the same chain of transmitters except with this variation that in the hadith transmitted on the authority of 'Ali' bin Musayyib, there is no mention of (the word) "Anger".
Hadith 2685
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْثَرٌ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ ، وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ " ، قَالَ : فَأَتَيْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، فَقُلْتُ يَا أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدِيثًا إِنْ كَانَ كَذَلِكَ فَقَدْ هَلَكْنَا ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّ الْهَالِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ بِقَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ ، وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ " وَلَيْسَ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ إِلَّا وَهُوَ يَكْرَهُ الْمَوْتَ ، فَقَالَتْ : قَدْ قَالَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَيْسَ بِالَّذِي تَذْهَبُ إِلَيْهِ ، وَلَكِنْ إِذَا شَخَصَ الْبَصَرُ وَحَشْرَجَ الصَّدْرُ وَاقْشَعَرَّ الْجِلْدُ وَتَشَنَّجَتِ الْأَصَابِعُ ، فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ أَحَبَّ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ ، وَمَنْ كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللَّهِ كَرِهَ اللَّهُ لِقَاءَهُ ،
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who loves meeting Allah, Allah loves to meet him, and he who dislikes to meet Allah, Allah abhors to meet him. I (Shuraih bin Hani, one of the narrators) came to A'isha and said to her: Mother of the faithful, I heard Abu Hurairah (RA) narrate from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) which, if it is actually so, is a destruction to us. Thereupon she said: Those are in fact ruined who are ruined at the words of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . What are (the words which in your opinion would cause your destruction)? He said that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had stated: He who loves to meet Allah, Allah too loves to meet him, and he who dislikes to meet Allah, Allah too abhors to meet him, and there is none amongst us who does not hate death. Thereupon she said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) has in fact stated this, but it does not mean what you construe, but it implies (the time) when one loses the lustre of the eye, and there is rattling in the throat, shudder in the body and convulsion in fingers (at the time of death). (It is about this time) that it has been said: He who loves to meet Allah, Allah would love to meet him, and he who dislikes to meet Allah, Allah would abhor to meet him
