Muhammad bin Qais bin Makhramah says that he heard Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) say: Shall I not relate to you an incident of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and myself? We said: Why not? She said: On the night it was my turn, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was with me. He returned from ‘Isha, placed his shoes by his feet, put down his cloak, and spread his lower garment on the bed. After only a short while, when he thought I had fallen asleep, he quietly put on his shoes, gently took his cloak, slowly opened the door, went out, and softly closed it. I also put my head covering on my head, wrapped myself in my cloak, put on my lower garment, and followed behind him until he came to the Baqi’ cemetery. There, he raised his hands three times, stood for a long time, then turned back, so I also turned back. He walked quickly, so I walked quickly. Then he increased his pace, so I increased mine. Then he began to run, so I also began to run, and I overtook him and entered (the house), and I had just lain down when he entered and said: “What is the matter, Aisha! Why is your belly heaving, why are you out of breath? Tell me, or the Subtle and All-Aware (i.e., Allah) will inform me.” I said: O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, and then I told him the whole incident. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “So it was your shadow that I saw ahead of me?” I said: Yes. Then he gave me such a tap on my chest that it hurt me and said: “Do you think that Allah and His Messenger would wrong you?” She said: No matter how much a matter is hidden from people, Allah will surely know it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Yes, (and) said: Jibreel came to me when you saw me, but he could not enter in front of you because you had removed your clothes. He called me and concealed himself from you. I responded to him and concealed it from you (i.e., spoke softly), and I thought you had fallen asleep, and I feared that you might feel lonely in solitude. So he (Jibreel) instructed me to go to the people of Baqi’ and seek forgiveness for them. ‘Asim narrated this hadith with different wording from Abdullah bin ‘Amir, and he from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her).
Hadith 3417
With this chain also, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that at night the Prophet (peace be upon him) found me missing and then narrated the entire hadith.
