Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When Allah created Adam (peace be upon him) and breathed the soul into him, he sneezed. He wanted to say «الحمد لله», so with Allah’s permission he said «الحمد لله» (All praise is due to Allah). Then his Lord said to him: May Allah have mercy on you, O Adam! Go to that assembly and group of angels sitting there and say to them: 'As-salamu alaikum.' He went and said: 'As-salamu alaikum.' The angels replied: 'Wa alaika as-salam wa rahmatullah.' Then he returned to his Lord, and Allah said: This is the way of greeting and supplication between you and your descendants. Then Allah closed both His fists and said to Adam: Choose whichever of these you wish. He (the narrator) says: I chose the right hand of my Lord, and in reality, both the hands of my Lord are right and blessed. Then He opened His fist, and in it were Adam and his descendants. Adam (peace be upon him) asked: O my Lord, who are these people? He said: These are all your descendants, and the age of each one is written between his eyes. Among them was one with the brightest face. Adam (peace be upon him) asked: O my Lord, who is this? He said: This is your son Dawud. I have written his age as forty years. Adam (peace be upon him) said: O my Lord! Increase his age. Allah said: His age has already been written. Adam (peace be upon him) said: O my Lord! I give him sixty years from my own age. Allah said: You and he know best. Very well. Then Adam (peace be upon him) remained in Paradise as long as Allah willed. Then Adam (peace be upon him) was expelled from Paradise. Adam (peace be upon him) began to count the days of his life. The Angel of Death came to him, and Adam (peace be upon him) said to him: You have come early; my age was written as a thousand years. The Angel of Death said: Yes (that is correct), but you gave sixty years of your life to your son Dawud. But he denied it. As a result and effect of this denial by Adam (peace be upon him), his descendants also began to deny. Adam (peace be upon him) forgot, and his descendants also began to forget. From that day, it was decreed that all matters should be written down and witnesses should be appointed." © Imam Tirmidhi says:
