Hadith 1960
وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ سَلَّامُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ ، عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ ، عَنْ جُنْدَبِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ ، قَالَ : شَهِدْتُ الْأَضْحَى مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، لَمَّا قَضَى صَلَاتَهُ بِالنَّاسِ نَظَرَ إِلَى غَنَمٍ قَدْ ذُبِحَتْ ، فَقَالَ : " مَنْ ذَبَحَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ ، فَلْيَذْبَحْ شَاةً مَكَانَهَا ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ ذَبَحَ ، فَلْيَذْبَحْ عَلَى اسْمِ اللَّهِ " .
Jundab bin Sufyan reported: I was with Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) (on the occasion) of 'Id al-Adha. After he had completed the prayer with people, he found that the goats had been slaughtered, whereupon he said: He who slaughtered sacrificial animal before the prayer should slaughter a goat (again) in its stead and he who has not slaughtered he should slaughter it by reciting the name of Allah.
Hadith 1961
وحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَهَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ جَرِيرٍ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ النَّحْرِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِهِمْ .
al-Bara' bin 'Azib (RA) reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) addressed us on the day of Nahr after the ('Id) prayer. The rest of the hadith is the same.
Hadith 2095
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَي بْنُ يَحْيَي ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ كُلَيْبٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ ، قال : قَالَ عَلِيٌّ : " نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ أَتَخَتَّمَ فِي إِصْبَعِي هَذِهِ أَوْ هَذِهِ ، قَالَ : فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى الْوُسْطَى وَالَّتِي تَلِيهَا " .
'Ali reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade me that I should wear a ring in this and that finger of mine, and he pointed to the middle finger and the next one.
Hadith 2184
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَهَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ . ح وحدثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وإسحاق بن إبراهيم ، واللفظ لزهير ، قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ : أَخْبَرَنَا ، وَقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قال : قال رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا كُنْتُمْ ثَلَاثَةً فَلَا يَتَنَاجَى اثْنَانِ دُونَ الْآخَرِ حَتَّى تَخْتَلِطُوا بِالنَّاسِ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنْ يُحْزِنَهُ " .
'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: If you are three, two amongst you should not converse secretly between yourselves to the exclusion of the other (third one), until some other people join him (and dispel his loneliness), for it may hurt his feelings.
Hadith 2212
حَدَّثَنَا هَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ ، قال : سمعت رسول اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ الْحُمَّى فَوْرٌ مِنْ جَهَنَّمَ فَابْرُدُوهَا بِالْمَاءِ " .
Rafi' bin Khadij reported: I heard Allah's messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The fever is due to the intense heat of the Hell, so cool it with water.
Hadith 2352
وحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبَانَ الْجُعْفِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سَلَّامٌ أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَ : كُنْتُ جَالِسًا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ، فَذَكَرُوا سِنِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ : كَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَكْبَرَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ " ، وَمَاتَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ ، وَقُتِلَ عُمَرُ ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ ، يُقَالُ لَهُ : عَامِرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ . حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا قُعُودًا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ ، فَذَكَرُوا سِنِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ : قُبِضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ سَنَةً ، وَمَاتَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ ، وَقُتِلَ عُمَرُ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ .
Abu Ishaq reported: I was sitting with 'Abdullah bin 'Utba and there was a discussion about the age of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) . Some of the persons said: Abu Bakr (RA) was older than Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . 'Abdullah said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) died when he was sixty-three, and Abu Bakr (RA) died when he was sixty-three and so 'Umar fell as a martyr when he was sixty-three. A person from the people who was called 'Amir bin Sa'd reported that Jabir had said: We were sitting with Mu'awiyah that there was a discussion about the age of Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . Thereupon Mu'awiyah said: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) died when he had attained the age of sixty-three, and Abu Bakr (RA) died when he had attained the age of sixty-three, and Umar fell as a martyr when he had attained the age of sixty-three.
Hadith 2533
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَهَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ السَّلْمَانِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " خَيْرُ أُمَّتِي الْقَرْنُ الَّذِينَ يَلُونِي ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ، ثُمَّ يَجِيءُ قَوْمٌ تَسْبِقُ شَهَادَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ يَمِينَهُ وَيَمِينُهُ شَهَادَتَهُ " ، لَمْ يَذْكُرْ هَنَّادٌ : الْقَرْنَ ، فِي حَدِيثِهِ ، وقَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ : ثُمَّ يَجِيءُ أَقْوَامٌ .
'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The best of my Umma would be those of the generation nearest to mine. Then those nearest to them, then those nearest to them, then people would come whose witness would precede the oath and the oath will precede the witness. Hannad has not made the mention of Qarn in his narration. Qutaiba said that, instead of the word Qaum, the word Aqwam has been used.
Hadith 2607
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَهَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِنَّ الصِّدْقَ بِرٌّ ، وَإِنَّ الْبِرَّ يَهْدِي إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ ، وَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَتَحَرَّى الصِّدْقَ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ صِدِّيقًا ، وَإِنَّ الْكَذِبَ فُجُورٌ ، وَإِنَّ الْفُجُورَ يَهْدِي إِلَى النَّارِ ، وَإِنَّ الْعَبْدَ لَيَتَحَرَّى الْكَذِبَ حَتَّى يُكْتَبَ كَذَّابًا " ، قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
'Abdullah bin Mas'ud reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Telling of truth is a virtue and virtue leads to Paradise and the servant who endeavours to tell the truth is recorded as truthful, and lie is obscenity and obscenity leads to Hell-Fire, and the servant who endeavours to tell a lie is recorded as a liar. Ibn Abu Shaiba reported this from Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) .
Hadith 2647
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَهَنَّادُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ فِي مَعْنَاهُ ، وَقَالَ : فَأَخَذَ عُودًا ، وَلَمْ يَقُلْ مِخْصَرَةً ، وَقَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ ، ثُمَّ قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
This hadith has been narrated on the authority of Mansur with the same chain of transmitters but with a slight variation of wording.
Hadith 2710
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِرَجُلٍ يَا فُلَانُ : إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ ، قَالَ : وَبِنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ فَإِنْ مُتَّ مِنْ لَيْلَتِكَ مُتَّ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ ، وَإِنْ أَصْبَحْتَ أَصَبْتَ خَيْرًا ،
This hadith has been transmitted on the authority of al-Bara' bin 'Azib (RA) that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to a person: O, so and so, as you go to your bed; the rest of the hadith is the same but with this variation of wording that he said: "Thine Apostle (ﷺ) whom Thou sent." If you die that night you would die on Fitra and if you get up in the morning you would get up with a bliss.
Hadith 2763
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِيَحْيَى ، قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ الْآخَرَانِ : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ وَالْأَسْوَدِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، إِنِّي عَالَجْتُ امْرَأَةً فِي أَقْصَى الْمَدِينَةِ ، وَإِنِّي أَصَبْتُ مِنْهَا مَا دُونَ أَنْ أَمَسَّهَا ، فَأَنَا هَذَا فَاقْضِ فِيَّ مَا شِئْتَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ : لَقَدْ سَتَرَكَ اللَّهُ لَوْ سَتَرْتَ نَفْسَكَ ، قَالَ : فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا ، فَقَامَ الرَّجُلُ ، فَانْطَلَقَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَجُلًا دَعَاهُ ، وَتَلَا عَلَيْهِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ وَأَقِمِ الصَّلاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِنَّ الْحَسَنَاتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ذَلِكَ ذِكْرَى لِلذَّاكِرِينَ سورة هود آية 114 ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، هَذَا لَهُ خَاصَّةً ؟ ، قَالَ : بَلْ لِلنَّاسِ كَافَّةً " ،
'Abdullah reported that a person came to Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) and said: Allah's Messenger, I sported with a woman in the outskirts of Madinah, and I have committed an offence short of fornication. Here I am (before you), kindly deliver verdict about me which you deem fit. Umar said: Allah concealed your fault. You had better conceal it yourself also. Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) , however, gave no reply to him. The man stood up and went away and Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) sent a person after him to call him and he recited this verse: "And observe prayer at the ends of the day and in the first hours of the night. Surely, good deeds take away evil deeds. That is a reminder for the mindful" (xi. 115). A person amongst the people said: Allah's Apostle, does it concern this man only? Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: No, but the people at large.
Hadith 2923
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ، وقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ . ح وحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ الْجَحْدَرِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ كِلَاهُمَا ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، يَقُولُ : " إِنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ السَّاعَةِ كَذَّابِينَ " ، وَزَادَ فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ ، قَالَ : فَقُلْتُ لَهُ : آنْتَ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : نَعَمْ ،
Jabir bin ahadeeth reported: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Before the Last Hour there would be many liars, and there is an addition in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Abu Ahwas of these words: "I said to him: Did you hear it from Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) ? He said: Yes."
Hadith 2977
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، وَأَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ ، يَقُولُ : " أَلَسْتُمْ فِي طَعَامٍ وَشَرَابٍ مَا شِئْتُمْ ؟ ، لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ نَبِيَّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَا يَجِدُ مِنَ الدَّقَلِ مَا يَمْلَأُ بِهِ بَطْنَهُ " ، وَقُتَيْبَةُ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ بِهِ ،
Nu'man bin Bashir said: Don't you eat and drink according to your heart's desire, whereas I saw that your Prophet (ﷺ) (at times) could not find even an inferior quality of the dates with which he could fill his belly? Qutaiba, however, did not make a mention of it.
