Hadith 19
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ، وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ ، وَإِسْحَاق بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعًا ، عَنْ وَكِيعٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّاءَ بْنِ إِسْحَاق ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : رُبَّمَا ، قَالَ وَكِيعٌ : عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّ مُعَاذًا ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِنَّكَ تَأْتِي قَوْمًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ ، فَادْعُهُمْ إِلَى شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنِّي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ، فَإِنْ هُمْ أَطَاعُوا لِذَلِكَ ، فَأَعْلِمْهُمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ افْتَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ ، فَإِنْ هُمْ أَطَاعُوا لِذَلِكَ ، فَأَعْلِمْهُمْ أَنَّ اللَّهَ افْتَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَدَقَةً ، تُؤْخَذُ مِنْ أَغْنِيَائِهِمْ ، فَتُرَدُّ فِي فُقَرَائِهِمْ ، فَإِنْ هُمْ أَطَاعُوا لِذَلِكَ ، فَإِيَّاكَ وَكَرَائِمَ أَمْوَالِهِمْ ، وَاتَّقِ دَعْوَةَ الْمَظْلُومِ ، فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَ اللَّهِ حِجَابٌ " .
It is reported on the authority of Ibn 'Abbas that Mu'adh said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent me (as a governor of Yemen) and (at the time of departure) instructed me thus: You will soon find yourself in a community one among the people of the Book, so first call them to testify that there is no god but Allah, that I (Muhammad) am the messenger of Allah, and if they accept this, then tell them Allah has enjoined upon them five prayers during the day and the night and if they accept it, then tell them that Allah has made Zakat obligatory for them that it should be collected from the rich and distributed among the poor, and if they agree to it don't pick up (as a share of Zakat) the best of their wealths. Beware of the supplication of the oppressed for there is no barrier between him and Allah.
Hadith 19
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق . ح حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّاءَ بْنِ إِسْحَاق ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْبَدٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَن النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، بَعَثَ مُعَاذًا إِلَى الْيَمَنِ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّكَ سَتَأْتِي قَوْمًا بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ وَكِيعٍ .
The above hadith has been mentioned with a different chain with a slightly different wording at the beginning, then follows the same.
Hadith 263
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرًا ، يَقُولُ : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُتَمَسَّحَ بِعَظْمٍ ، أَوْ بِبَعْرٍ " .
Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade the use of bone or the droppings of camels for wiping (after excretion).
Hadith 340
وحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يُحَدِّثُ ، " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَنْقُلُ مَعَهُمُ الْحِجَارَةَ لِلْكَعْبَةِ ، وَعَلَيْهِ إِزَارُهُ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ الْعَبَّاسُ عَمُّهُ : يَا ابْنَ أَخِي ، لَوْ حَلَلْتَ إِزَارَكَ ، فَجَعَلْتَهُ عَلَى مَنْكِبِكَ دُونَ الْحِجَارَةِ ، قَالَ : فَحَلَّهُ ، فَجَعَلَهُ عَلَى مَنْكِبِهِ ، فَسَقَطَ مَغْشِيًّا عَلَيْهِ ، قَالَ : فَمَا رُؤِيَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ عُرْيَانًا " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was carrying along with them (his people) stones for the Ka’bah and there was a waist wrapper around him. His uncle, 'Abbas, said to him: O son of my brother! if you take off the lower garment and place it on the shoulders underneath the stones, it would be better. He (the Holy Prophet) took it off and placed it on his shoulder and fell down unconscious. He (the narrator) said: Never was he seen naked after that day.
Hadith 664
وحَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الشَّاعِرِ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : كَانَتْ دِيَارُنَا نَائِيَةً عَنِ الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَأَرَدْنَا أَنْ نَبِيعَ بُيُوتَنَا ، فَنَقْتَرِبَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ ، فَنَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّ لَكُمْ بِكُلِّ خَطْوَةٍ دَرَجَةً " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah narrated: Our houses were situated far away from the mosque; we, therefore, decided to sell our houses so that we may be able to come near the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade us (to do so) and said: There is for every step (towards the mosque) a degree (of reward) for you.
Hadith 710
وحَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ حَبِيبٍ الْحَارِثِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءَ بْنَ يَسَارٍ ، يَقُولُ : عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : " إِذَا أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ ، فَلَا صَلَاةَ إِلَّا الْمَكْتُوبَةُ " .
Abu Hurairah (RA) reported the Apostle of Allah (ﷺ) as saying: When the prayer commences, there is no prayer but the obligatory one.
Hadith 710
وحَدَّثَنَاه عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، بِهَذَا الإِسْنَادِ مِثْلَهُ .
A hadith like this has been reported by Ishaq with the same chain of transmitters.
Hadith 1080
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إسحاق ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، يَقُولُ : سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ : " الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَقَبَضَ إِبْهَامَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ " .
Ibn 'Umar (RA) (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The month is thus and thus and thus (i. e. pointing with his fingers thrice), and he held back his thumb at the third time (in order to show that it can also consist of twenty-nine days).
Hadith 1478
وحدثنا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حدثنا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حدثنا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حدثنا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : دَخَلَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَوَجَدَ النَّاسَ جُلُوسًا بِبَابِهِ لَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لِأَحَدٍ مِنْهُمْ ، قَالَ : فَأُذِنَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ فَدَخَلَ ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عُمَرُ ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَ فَأُذِنَ لَهُ ، فَوَجَدَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسًا حَوْلَهُ نِسَاؤُهُ وَاجِمًا سَاكِتًا ، قَالَ : فقَالَ : لَأَقُولَنَّ شَيْئًا أُضْحِكُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَوْ رَأَيْتَ بِنْتَ خَارِجَةَ سَأَلَتْنِي النَّفَقَةَ ، فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهَا فَوَجَأْتُ عَنْقَهَا ، فَضَحِكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَقَالَ : " هُنَّ حَوْلِي كَمَا تَرَى يَسْأَلْنَنِي النَّفَقَةَ " ، فَقَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ يَجَأُ عَنْقَهَا ، فَقَامَ عُمَرُ إِلَى حَفْصَةَ يَجَأُ عَنْقَهَا ، كِلَاهُمَا يَقُولُ تَسْأَلْنَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَيْسَ عَنْدَهُ ، فَقُلْنَ : وَاللَّهِ لَا نَسْأَلُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا أَبَدًا لَيْسَ عَنْدَهُ ، ثُمَّ اعْتَزَلَهُنَّ شَهْرًا أَوْ تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ : يَأَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لأَزْوَاجِكَ ، حَتَّى بَلَغَ لِلْمُحْسِنَاتِ مِنْكُنَّ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا سورة الأحزاب آية 28 - 29 ، قَالَ : فَبَدَأَ بِعَائِشَةَ ، فقَالَ : " يَا عَائِشَةُ ، إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَعْرِضَ عَلَيْكِ أَمْرًا أُحِبُّ أَنْ لَا تَعْجَلِي فِيهِ حَتَّى تَسْتَشِيرِي أَبَوَيْكِ " ، قَالَت : وَمَا هُوَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَتَلَا عَلَيْهَا الْآيَةَ ، قَالَت : أَفِيكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَسْتَشِيرُ أَبَوَيَّ ، بَلْ أَخْتَارُ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ لَا تُخْبِرَ امْرَأَةً مِنْ نِسَائِكَ بِالَّذِي قُلْتُ ، قَالَ : " لَا تَسْأَلُنِي امْرَأَةٌ مِنْهُنَّ إِلَّا أَخْبَرْتُهَا إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَبْعَثْنِي مُعَنْتًا وَلَا مُتَعَنْتًا ، وَلَكِنْ بَعَثَنِي مُعَلِّمًا مُيَسِّرًا " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah (RA) reported: Abu Bakr (RA) came and sought permission to see Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) . He found people sitting at his door and none amongst them had been granted permission, but it was granted to Abu Bakr (RA) and he went in. Then came 'Umar and he sought permission and it was granted to him, and he found Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) sitting sad and silent with his wives around him. He (Hadrat 'Umar) said: I would say something which would make the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) laugh, so he said: Messenger of Allah, I wish you had seen (the treatment meted out to) the daughter of Khadija (RA) when you asked me some money, and I got up and slapped her on her neck. Allah's Messenger (mav peace be upon him) laughed and said: They are around me as you see, asking for extra money. Abu Bakr (RA) then got up went to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and slapped her on the neck, and 'Umar stood up before Hafsa and slapped her saying: You ask Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) which he does not possess. They said: By Allah, we do not ask Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) for anything he does not possess. Then he withdrew from them for a month or for twenty-nine days. Then this verse was revealed to him:" Prophet: Say to thy wives... for a mighty reward" (xxxiii. 28). He then went first to 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) and said: I want to propound something to you, 'A'isha, but wish no hasty reply before you consult your parents. She said: Messenger of Allah, what is that? He (the Holy Prophet) recited to her the verse, whereupon she said: Is it about you that I should consult my parents, Messenger of Allah? (ﷺ) Nay, I choose Allah, His Messenger, and the Last Abode; but I ask you not to tell any of your wives what I have said He replied: Not one of them will ask me without my informing her. God did not send me to be harsh, or cause harm, but He has sent me to teach and make things easy.
Hadith 1536
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ النَّوْفَلِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ . ح حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ : حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، قَالَا : حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُول : " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ بَيْعِ الثَّمَرِ حَتَّى يَبْدُوَ صَلَاحُهُ " .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbidding the sale of fruit until its good condition is obvious.
Hadith 1552
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : دَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى أُمِّ مَعْبَدٍ حَائِطًا ، فَقَالَ : " يَا أُمَّ مَعْبَدٍ ، مَنْ غَرَسَ هَذَا النَّخْلَ أَمُسْلِمٌ أَمْ كَافِرٌ ؟ " ، فَقَالَتْ : بَلْ مُسْلِمٌ ، قَالَ : " فَلَا يَغْرِسُ الْمُسْلِمُ غَرْسًا ، فَيَأْكُلَ مِنْهُ إِنْسَانٌ ، وَلَا دَابَّةٌ ، وَلَا طَيْرٌ ، إِلَّا كَانَ لَهُ صَدَقَةً إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَة " .
Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) reported: Allah's Apostle (ﷺ) visited the orchard of Umm Ma'sud and said: Umm Ma'bad. he who has planted this tree, is he a Muslim or a non-Muslim? She said: Of course, he is a Muslim, whereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: No Muslim who plants (trees) and from their fruits the human beings or the beasts or birds eat, but that would be taken as an act of charity on the Day of Resurrection.
Hadith 1813
حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : " غَزَوْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تِسْعَ عَشْرَةَ غَزْوَةً ، قَالَ جَابِرٌ : لَمْ أَشْهَدْ بَدْرًا وَلَا أُحُدًا مَنَعَنِي أَبِي ، فَلَمَّا قُتِلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَوْمَ أُحُدٍ لَمْ أَتَخَلَّفْ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ قَطُّ " .
It has been reported on the authority of Abu Zubair who heard Jabir bin'Abdullah (RA) say: I fought in the company of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) nineteen battles. Jabir said: I did not participate in the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud. My father prevented me (from participating in these battles as my age was tender). After 'Abdullah (my father) was killed on the Day of Ubud, I never lagged behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and joined every battle (he fought).
Hadith 2010
وحَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ دِينَارٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، وَزَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، قَالَا : أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ ، أَنَّهُ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَدَحِ لَبَنٍ بِمِثْلِهِ ، قَالَ : وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ زَكَرِيَّاءُ قَوْلَ أَبِي حُمَيْدٍ بِاللَّيْلِ .
Abu Humaid Sa'idi reported through another chain of transmitters that he brought to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) a cup containing milk, but there is no mention of the word "in the night"
Hadith 2268
وحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، يَقُولُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ رَآنِي فِي النَّوْمِ فَقَدْ رَآنِي ، فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلشَّيْطَانِ أَنْ يَتَشَبَّهَ بِي " .
Jabir bin 'Abdullah reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who saw me in a dream in fact saw me, for the satan cannot assume my form.
Hadith 2351
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَهَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ رَوْحِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّاءُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : " أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، مَكَثَ بِمَكَّةَ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ ، وَتُوُفِّيَ وَهُوَ ابْنُ ثَلَاثٍ وَسِتِّينَ " .
Ibn 'Abbas reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) stayed in Makkah for thirteen years and he died when he had attained the age of sixty three years.
