Hadith 367
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، عَنْ نَابِلٍ صَاحِبِ الْعَبَاءِ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ صُهَيْبٍ، قَالَ : " مَرَرْتُ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَرَدَّ إِلَيَّ إِشَارَةً ، وَقَالَ : لَا أَعْلَمُ ، إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ : إِشَارَةً بِإِصْبَعِهِ " ، قَالَ : وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ بِلَالٍ , وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , وَأَنَسٍ , وَعَائِشَةَ .
´Suhaib narrated:` "I passed by Allah's Messenger (S) while he was performing Salat, so I said greeted him with Salam, and he returned it by making signals." He said: "I do not know except that he said: 'He indicated with his finger.'"
Hadith 655
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، قَالَ : أُصِيبَ رَجُلٌ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي ثِمَارٍ ابْتَاعَهَا فَكَثُرَ دَيْنُهُ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " تَصَدَّقُوا عَلَيْهِ " فَتَصَدَّقَ النَّاسُ عَلَيْهِ ، فَلَمْ يَبْلُغْ ذَلِكَ وَفَاءَ دَيْنِهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِغُرَمَائِهِ : " خُذُوا مَا وَجَدْتُمْ وَلَيْسَ لَكُمْ إِلَّا ذَلِكَ " . قَالَ : وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، وَجُوَيْرِيَةَ ، وَأَنَسٍ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : حَدِيثُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ .
´Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri narrated:` "During the time of the Messenger of Allah, a man suffered a loss on fruits that he had sold, resulting in more debt. The Messenger of Allah said: 'Give him charity.' So the people gave him charity but it did not cover his debt. So the Messenger of Allah said to his debtors: 'Take what you have and there is nothing for you but that.'"
Hadith 798
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ مُضَرَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ مَوْلَى سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ، قَالَ : " لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ وَعَلَى الَّذِينَ يُطِيقُونَهُ فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ سورة البقرة آية 184 ، كان من أراد منا أن يفطر ويفتدي حتى نزلت الآية التي بعدها فنسختها " . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ ، وَيَزِيدُ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ .
´Salamah bin Al-Akwa said:` "When the following was revealed: 'And for those upon whom it is difficult, (they may) feed a poor person' - if one of us wanted we would not fast, and pay the ransom, until the Ayah after it was revealed abrogating it."
Hadith 1463
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ , حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ , عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبيبٍ , عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ , عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ , عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ نِيَارٍ , قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا يُجْلَدُ فَوْقَ عَشْرِ جَلَدَاتٍ , إِلَّا فِي حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ اللَّهِ " , قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ , لَا نَعْرِفُهُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ , وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ فِي التَّعْزِيرِ , وَأَحْسَنُ شَيْءٍ رُوِيَ فِي التَّعْزِيرِ , هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ , قَالَ : وَقَدْ رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ , عَنْ بُكَيْرٍ , فَأَخْطَأَ فِيهِ , وَقَالَ : عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ , وَهُوَ خَطَأٌ , وَالصَّحِيحُ حَدِيثُ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ , إِنَّمَا هُوَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ , عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ بْنِ نِيَارٍ , عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
´Narrated Abu Burdah bun Niyar:` That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "No one is to be lashed more than ten lashes except for a legal punishment among Allah's punishments."
Hadith 1571
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ : بَعَثَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْثٍ ، فَقَالَ : " إِنْ وَجَدْتُمْ فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا لِرَجُلَيْنِ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فَأَحْرِقُوهُمَا بِالنَّارِ " ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَرَدْنَا الْخُرُوجَ : " إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَمَرْتُكُمْ أَنْ تُحْرِقُوا فُلَانًا وَفُلَانًا بِالنَّارِ ، وَإِنَّ النَّارَ لَا يُعَذِّبُ بِهَا إِلَّا اللَّهُ ، فَإِنْ وَجَدْتُمُوهُمَا ، فَاقْتُلُوهُمَا " ، وَفِي الْبَاب ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَحَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْأَسْلَمِيِّ ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ ، وَالْعَمَلُ عَلَى هَذَا عِنْدَ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ ، وَقَدْ ذَكَرَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاق ، بَيْنَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، وَبَيْنَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَجُلًا فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ، وَرَوَى غَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ مِثْلَ رِوَايَةِ اللَّيْثِ ، وَحَدِيثُ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ أَشْبَهُ وَأَصَحُّ ، قَالَ الْبُخَارِيُّ : وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ ، قَدْ سَمِعَ مِنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ : وَحَدِيثُ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْأَسْلَمِيِّ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ صَحِيحٌ .
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent us on a military expedition and said: "If you find such and such two men of the Quraysh, then burn them." Then, when we were about to depart, he said: "I had ordered you to burn such and such persons, but punishment by fire is only for Allah, so now if you find them, kill them." © Imam Tirmidhi says:
1- The hadith of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) is Hasan Sahih.
2- Muhammad bin Ishaq has mentioned another man between Sulaiman bin Yasar and Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) in this hadith; several others have narrated it like the narration of Laith; the hadith of Laith bin Sa'd is more authentic.
3- In this chapter, there is also narration from Ibn Abbas and Hamzah bin Amr Aslami (may Allah be pleased with them).
4- The people of knowledge act upon this.

Hadith 1652
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ النَّاسِ ؟ رَجُلٌ مُمْسِكٌ بِعِنَانِ فَرَسِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ، أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالَّذِي يَتْلُوهُ ؟ رَجُلٌ مُعْتَزِلٌ فِي غُنَيْمَةٍ لَهُ يُؤَدِّي حَقَّ اللَّهِ فِيهَا ، أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِشَرِّ النَّاسِ ؟ رَجُلٌ يُسْأَلُ بِاللَّهِ وَلَا يُعْطِي بِهِ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ ، وَيُرْوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ مِنْ غَيْرِ وَجْهٍ عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ .
Narrated from Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you about the best person among you? He is the one who holds the reins of his horse in the way of Allah. Shall I not tell you about the person who is next in rank to him? He is the one who, staying apart from people, lives among his goats and fulfills the rights of Allah. Shall I not tell you about the worst person? He is the one who, when asked in the name of Allah, does not give." © Imam Tirmidhi says:

Hadith 2194
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عَيَّاشِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ، عَنْ بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ سَعْدَ بْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ عِنْدَ فِتْنَةِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ : أَشْهَدُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " إِنَّهَا سَتَكُونُ فِتْنَةٌ الْقَاعِدُ فِيهَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْقَائِمِ ، وَالْقَائِمُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْمَاشِي ، وَالْمَاشِي خَيْرٌ مِنَ السَّاعِي " ، قَالَ : أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ بَيْتِي وَبَسَطَ يَدَهُ إِلَيَّ لِيَقْتُلَنِي ، قَالَ : " كُنْ كَابْنِ آدَمَ " ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، وَخَبَّابِ بْنِ الْأَرَتِّ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرَةَ ، وَابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ ، وَأَبِي وَاقِدٍ ، وَأَبِي مُوسَى ، وَخَرَشَةَ ، وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ ، وَرَوَى بَعْضُهُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ ، عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، وَزَادَ فِي هَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ رَجُلًا ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى : وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ غَيْرِ هَذَا الْوَجْهِ .
´Busr bin Sa'eed said:` During the Fitnah(in the time) of 'Uthman bin 'Affan, Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas said: "I testify that the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said: 'There will be a Fitnah during which the sitting person is better than the standing(person) is better than the walking, and the walking(person) is better than the running."' He said: "What do you see(I should do) if he entered upon me in my homeand extended hos hand to kill me? He said: 'Be as Adam's son."'
