بَابُ : الرُّخْصَةِ فِي تَرْكِ الْقِيَامِ
Chapter: Concession Allowing One To Not Stand Up
Hadith 1924
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ ، قال : كُنَّا عِنْدَ عَلِيٍّ فَمَرَّتْ بِهِ جَنَازَةٌ فَقَامُوا لَهَا ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ : مَا هَذَا ؟ قَالُوا : أَمْرُ أَبِي مُوسَى , فَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِجَنَازَةِ يَهُودِيَّةٍ وَلَمْ يَعُدْ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ " .
´It was narrated that Abu Ma'mar said:` "We were with 'Ali and a funeral passed by him, and they stood up for it. 'Ali said: "What is this?' They said: 'The command of Abu Musa.' He said: 'Rather the Messenger of Allah stood up for a Jewish funeral but he did not do it again."'
Hadith 1925
أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ ، أَنَّ جَنَازَةً مَرَّتْ بِالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فَقَامَ الْحَسَنُ وَلَمْ يَقُمِ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ , فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ : " أَلَيْسَ قَدْ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِجَنَازَةِ يَهُودِيٍّ , قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : نَعَمْ , ثُمَّ جَلَسَ " .
´It was narrated from Muhammad that:` a funeral passed by Al-Hasan bin 'Ali and Ibn 'Abbas. Al-Hasan stood up but Ibn 'Abbas did not/ Al-Hasan said: 'Didn't the Messenger of Allah stand up for the funeral of a Jew?' Ibn 'Abbas said: 'Yes, then he sat down."'
Hadith 1926
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، قال : أَنْبَأَنَا مَنْصُورٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ ، قال : مُرَّ بِجَنَازَةٍ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ، وَابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ , فَقَامَ الْحَسَنُ وَلَمْ يَقُمِ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ : أَمَا قَامَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ : قَامَ لَهَا ثُمَّ قَعَدَ " .
´It was narrated that Ibn Sirin said:` "A funeral passed by Al-Hasan bin 'Ali and Ibn 'Abbas. Al-Hasan stood up but Ibn 'Abbas did not. Al-Hasan said to Ibn 'Abbas: 'Didn't the Messengr of Allah stand up for it?' Ibn 'Abbas said: 'He stood up for it then he sat."'
Hadith 1927
أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ التَّيْمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي مِجْلَزٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، وَالْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ مَرَّتْ بِهِمَا جِنَازَةٌ فَقَامَ أَحَدُهُمَا وَقَعَدَ الآخَرُ , فَقَالَ الَّذِي قَامَ : أَمَا وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ قَامَ ، قَالَ لَهُ الَّذِي جَلَسَ : لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ جَلَسَ " .
´It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas and Al-Hasan bin 'Ali that:` a funeral passed by them and one of them stood and the other sat. The one who stood up said: "By Allah, I know that the Messnger of Allah stood up." The one who was sitting said: "I know that the Messenger of Allah sat."
Hadith 1928
أَخْبَرَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هَارُونَ الْبَلْخِيُّ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمٌ ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ الْحَسَنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ كَانَ جَالِسًا فَمُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجَنَازَةٍ , فَقَامَ النَّاسُ حَتَّى جَاوَزَتِ الْجَنَازَةُ ، فَقَالَ الْحَسَنُ : " إِنَّمَا مُرَّ بِجَنَازَةِ يَهُودِيٍّ , وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى طَرِيقِهَا جَالِسًا ، فَكَرِهَ أَنْ تَعْلُوَ رَأْسَهُ جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيٍّ فَقَامَ " .
‘Muhammad bin Ali al-Baqir says that’ Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) was sitting when a funeral procession passed by, so the people stood up until the funeral had passed. Then Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A Jewish funeral once passed by, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting on that same path, and he disliked that a Jewish funeral should pass above his head, so he stood up 1.
Hadith 1929
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، قال : أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ ، قال : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرًا ، يَقُولُ : " قَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِجَنَازَةِ يَهُودِيٍّ مَرَّتْ بِهِ حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ " .
Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reports that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up for the funeral of a Jew which passed by him, until it disappeared from sight.
Hadith 1930
وأَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَيْضًا ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرًا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : " قَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَصْحَابُهُ لِجَنَازَةِ يَهُودِيٍّ حَتَّى تَوَارَتْ " .
With this chain of narration also, it is reported from Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his companions stood up for the funeral of a Jew until it disappeared from sight.
Hadith 1931
أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ ، قال : أَنْبَأَنَا النَّضْرُ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ ، " أَنَّ جَنَازَةً مَرَّتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَامَ , فَقِيلَ : إِنَّهَا جَنَازَةُ يَهُودِيٍّ , فَقَالَ : " إِنَّمَا قُمْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ " .
´It was narrated from Anas that:` a funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah and he stood up. It was said: "It is the funeral of a Jew." He said: "We stood up for the angels."
