Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) about blood. Umm al-Mu’minin Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that I saw her tub filled with blood, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to her: “Refrain (from prayer and fasting) for as many days as your menstruation used to prevent you, then perform ghusl (ritual bath).” (Imam al-Nasa’i says) Qutaybah narrated this hadith to us again, but did not mention Ja’far ibn Rabi’ah between Yazid ibn Abi Habib and ‘Iraq ibn Malik.

Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) says that a woman asked the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “I experience istihada (non-menstrual bleeding) and thus I do not remain pure; should I stop praying?” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “No, only leave the prayer for the number of days and nights that you usually menstruate, then perform ghusl (ritual bath), fasten a cloth (to prevent the blood), and perform the prayer.”

‘Umm al-Mu’minin Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that a woman used to have bleeding during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so she asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about her issue. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “She should count the number of nights and days in which she used to menstruate before this illness befell her, and for that duration each month she should leave the prayer. Then, when those days have passed, she should perform ghusl, tie a cloth around herself, and then perform the prayer.”
