Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
982. Commentary:
➊ Since every person has to perform the obligatory (fard) prayer, it is necessary for the imam to keep in mind the aspect of lightening the prayer. However, the bowing (ruku‘) and prostration (sujud), which are the essence of the prayer, should be performed with calmness and tranquility; there should be no deficiency in them. Rather, the recitation (qira’ah) and supplications (ad‘iyah) should be kept brief, which will make the standing (qiyam) and sitting (qa‘dah) shorter. In this way, the prayer will be both light and complete.
➋ This noble hadith indicates the great virtue, lofty status, and high and exalted greatness of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz rahimahullah. This is because Anas radi Allahu anhu, such a distinguished Companion who was the special servant of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and who performed prayers in the leadership of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam for ten years, is saying that he has not followed any imam whose prayer more closely resembled the prayer of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam than that of Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz rahimahullah. Even though Anas radi Allahu anhu also performed prayers behind all the Rightly Guided Caliphs, his feelings and sentiments regarding Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz rahimahullah possess a unique beauty, attraction, and weight. «اللهم اجعلنا من عبادك الصالحين آمين»
➌ Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz rahimahullah was a caliph who was very different from the other caliphs of Banu Umayyah. He became so renowned for his fear of Allah, selflessness, trustworthiness and honesty, sense of responsibility, accountability, and love of knowledge, that he is remembered by the title “the second Umar.” He established such an unparalleled just government that, apart from the Rightly Guided Caliphate, no other government can compare to his. Rahimahullah rahmatan wasi‘ah.
