Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
895. Commentary: By this silence is meant reciting quietly to oneself. During this time, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) would recite the opening supplication (du'a al-istiftah). After that, he would begin the recitation (qira’ah) aloud. Thus, to begin the recitation immediately after the opening takbir (takbir al-tahrimah) is contrary to the Sunnah and against tranquility and composure. Rather, one should spend a short while in praise and supplication, and then begin the recitation.
