Hadith 856

´It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` "Whoever performs wudu' and does it well, then sets out for the Masjid and finds that the people have already prayed, Allah will decree for him a reward like that of those who attended (the prayer), without reducing the slightest from their reward."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
856. Commentary: The intention of this person was indeed to perform the prayer in congregation, and he did not show any negligence; rather, he made every effort, yet still could not join the congregation. He felt regret over this, so according to his intention and effort, he will receive the reward of the congregation, provided that he is regular in attending the congregation. This is the grace of Allah, the Exalted. This does not refer to the person who is habitually lazy regarding congregational prayer or does not care much—if he joins, fine; if not, he feels no regret. For such a person, the reward of the congregation will be given only if he manages to pray at least one rak‘ah in congregation, not less than that. And this matter is established from authentic ahadith.
