It was narrated from Al'Irbad bin Sariyah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to send Salah on the first row three times and on the second row once.

818. Commentary:
➊ This hadith proves that attaining a place in the first row is such a virtuous deed that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) himself supplicated three times for those in the first row. Therefore, every worshipper should strive to secure a place in the first row.
➋ This is the same distinction that you (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) made between those who shaved their heads (muhalliqin) and those who trimmed their hair (muqassirin) during Hajj and Umrah.

Benefits and Issues:
➊ Competing in good deeds is a virtuous act and is legislatively desirable.
➋ One method of encouraging good deeds is to supplicate (make du'a) for the one who performs that deed.
➌ Just as the first row is superior to the second, likewise the second row is superior to the third, because supplication was made for those in the second row, but not for those in the third row.
