752. Commentary:
➊ In this narration, Yahya has two teachers: Shu’bah and Hisham. Hisham has narrated this report as mawquf (a legal verdict of Ibn Abbas), whereas Shu’bah has also narrated it as marfu’—that is, as a statement of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). There is no contradiction between the two. Ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhuma) narrated these words from the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and also issued the same legal verdict himself, and this is common.
➋ By “a menstruating woman” is meant an adult woman; that is, if a young girl passes in front, it will have no effect on the prayer, but if an adult woman passes in front, the prayer will be invalidated.
