´It was narrated that Jabir said:` "A man came making announcement of a lost camel in the Masjid, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'May you never find it!'"

718. Commentary:

➊ In some narrations, it is mentioned that the man entered the mosque and, facing inside, began to say: “Has anyone seen my red camel?” It was then that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said this.

➋ It is not permissible to make the mosque a place for such announcements. However, if a worshipper comes to pray and mentions his lost item to his companions, there is no prohibition, because this is not considered a formal announcement according to common usage.

➌ In the hadith, only an animal is mentioned, but the same ruling applies to other items that are at risk of being lost; there is no difference between them. However, the announcement of a lost child does not fall under this ruling, because this is not called «ضالة».
