Hadith 689

´It was narrated from 'Amr bin 'Abasah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:` "Whoever builds a Masjid in which Allah is remembered, Allah, (the Mighty and Sublime) will build for him a house in Paradise."

689. Commentary:

➊ The purpose of building a mosque is that the remembrance of Allah, the Exalted, should take place there.

➋ Building a mosque for the sake of disputes, stubbornness, prejudice, ostentation, or fame is not a virtuous deed.

➌ Having one's name engraved on the mosque or installing plaques can also fall under ostentation and seeking fame. Similarly, building a mosque specifically for a particular sect, such that entry of other sects is prohibited, is contrary to the purpose of a mosque and is futile. Building a mosque with a correct intention is akin to building one's house in Paradise.

➍ The attribution of building a house to Allah, the Exalted, is out of reverence; otherwise, Allah, the Exalted, creates houses by His command.
