Hadith 663

´It was narrated that Abu 'Ubaidah said:` "Abdullah said: 'The idolaters kept the Prophet (S.A.W) from (offering) four prayers on the day of Al-Khandaq, so he commanded Bilal to call the Adhan, then he said the Iqamah and prayed Zuhr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed 'Asr, then he said the Iqamah and prayed the Maghrib, then he said the Iqamah and prayed 'Isha'.'"

663. Commentary:

➊ Although this narration is weak in its chain due to discontinuity, it is correct based on other evidences, because this meaning and incident are present in other authentic ahadith.

➋ In reality, the Dhuhr and Asr prayers had been missed. The time for Maghrib had arrived. The adhan was called. All three prayers were performed. Dhuhr and Asr were made up (qada), but Maghrib was performed at the end of its time. Meanwhile, the time for Isha arrived, so that was also performed along with them. Thus, in terms of performance, it was as if four prayers were combined, but in reality, Maghrib and Isha were within their respective times. Considering the manner of performance, the narrator mentioned being prevented from four prayers. The battle had ended at the time of Maghrib. Even if there was some delay, there was no possibility of Isha prayer being missed. This is explicitly stated in the previous narration. If it was a separate incident, that would be another matter, and this is actually correct, because this is supported by other narrations. See Fawaid wa Masail Hadith: 664.
