´It was narrated from 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Sa'eed that his father said:` "On the day of Al-Khandaq the idolators kept us from praying Zuhr until the sun had gone down; that was before the revelation concerning fighting was revealed. Then Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, revealed: Allah sufficed for the believers in the fighting.[1] The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) commanded Bilal to say the Iqamah for Zuhr prayer, and he offered it just as he used to offer it on time. Then he said the Iqamah for 'Asr and he offered it just as he used to offer it on time. Then he called the Adhan for Maghrib and offered it on time." [1] Al-Ahzab 33:25.

662. Commentary:
➊ It is understood that a missed (qada) prayer should be performed only with the iqamah (second call to prayer), and for the current (waqt) prayer, the adhan (first call to prayer) should be given so that there is no confusion among the people, since you were in a city and populated area. When the morning prayer was missed in the desert, you had the adhan called and then performed the prayer, because there was no risk of confusion there. Thus, for a missed prayer, giving the adhan is neither necessary nor prohibited; the circumstances and context should be considered. See also Hadith: 622.
➋ In al-Sunan al-Kubra by al-Nasa’i (1/505), the chapter heading is as follows: «الأذان للفوائت من الصلوات». This title makes it clear that the reasoning of Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah is also evident. However, it does not seem so, because in other various chains of transmission, the word “aqama” (he gave the iqamah) is reported instead of “adhana” (he gave the adhan). And Allah knows best.
