´Sufyan narrated a similar report with the same chain. (One of the narrators) (Abu) 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasai) said:` "It is not Abu Ja'far Al-Farra'."

Commentary: This hadith is an explicit text and evidence that the command to say «الصَّلَاةُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ النَّوْمِ» in the morning call to prayer (adhan) was originally given by the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself. Attributing it to Umar radi Allahu anhu is nothing but a lie and fabrication; it has no connection to reality. And Allah knows best. For further details, see the introduction of this very book.
