Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) The intent here is the negation of nabidh, because there is a possibility of intoxication in it, and he did not wish to drink any suspicious beverage. This demonstrates his perfection in piety. Furthermore, it is understood from this that Ibn Shubrumah did not consider nabidh permissible when it contained intoxication; therefore, in narration 5753, his words regarding Ibrahim al-Nakha’i—“may Allah have mercy on Ibrahim”—are not in praise, but rather in regret, because permissibility of such nabidh is transmitted from him.

(2) Ibn Shubrumah rahimahullah was the judge (qadi) of Kufa and a just and trustworthy person, but there was some weakness in his memory, due to which he has also been called weak. Along with being a judge, he was also a reliable jurist (faqih) of Kufa, and extremely pious, devout, and ascetic. «رحمة الله رحمة واسعة.»

(3) Imam Abu Abd al-Rahman Ahmad ibn Shu’ayb al-Nasa’i rahimahullah concluded his book with the theme of piety (taqwa) and scrupulousness (wara’), that the purpose of knowledge is piety. “Indeed, only those of His servants who have knowledge fear Allah.” [فاطر: ٣٥ ٢٨] If there is no piety, a Muslim is useless. This is the best manner of concluding the book. May Allah Most High grant our ending also upon faith and piety. Amin. A thousand thanks to the Merciful and Generous Master, that this scholarly work, which was begun in the month of Rabi’ al-Awwal, was completed in the blessed month of Ramadan, which is the month of the revelation of the Qur’an. However much gratitude I express for this grace and favor of Allah Most High is insufficient, and a humble and insignificant person like me is not even worthy of expressing gratitude. “Even if I wash my mouth a thousand times with rosewater, still to utter Your name would be disrespectful.” «لا أُحصي ثَناءً عليكَ، أنتَ كما أثنَيتَ على نَفْسِكَ
