Hadith 5756

أَخْبَرَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا أَسَدُ بْنُ مُوسَى , قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ , عَنْ ثَابِتٍ , عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : كَانَ لِأُمِّ سُلَيْمٍ قَدَحٌ مِنْ عَيْدَانٍ , فَقَالَتْ : " سَقَيْتُ فِيهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كُلَّ الشَّرَابِ : الْمَاءَ , وَالْعَسَلَ , وَاللَّبَنَ , وَالنَّبِيذَ " .
´It was narrated that Anas said:` Umm Sulaim had a wooden cup and she said: "I gave the Messenger of Allah [SAW] all kinds of things to drink in it: Water, honey, milk and Nabidh."

(1) It has already been mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, due to kinship, would often visit the homes of Umm Sulaym radi Allahu anha and her sister Umm Haram radi Allahu anha. In this way, they would have opportunities to serve and show hospitality to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam—may my father, mother, self, and soul be sacrificed for him. How fortunate those people were!

(2) It should be noted that here, "nabidh" refers to fresh nabidh, which was far removed from any intoxicating effect.
