´It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said:` "Khamr was forbidden in and of itself, in small or large amounts, as was every kind of intoxicating drink."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah has narrated the aforementioned reports from two teachers: one is Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Hakam and the other is Husayn ibn Mansur. Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Hakam did not narrate these particular words, whereas Husayn ibn Mansur did narrate these words.

(2) The purpose of bringing this narration is to show that the authentic narration comes with these words, meaning that wine is prohibited and every intoxicating drink is also prohibited, whether in small or large quantity. Furthermore, this narration is in accordance with other narrations from Ibn Abbas radi Allahu anhu, and trustworthy narrators narrate this report with these very words, and this is what is suitable for deriving evidence, not the first weak and disconnected narration. If the first narration is considered authentic, then its translation will be as per the aforementioned narration so that all the narrations can be reconciled.
