´It was narrated from Ibn Shubrumah who mentioned it from 'Abdullah bin Shaddad bin Al-Had, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said:` "Khamr was forbidden in small or large amounts, as was every kind of intoxicating drink."
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) The above translation of this narration has been rendered in consideration of those people who deduce the aforementioned inference from it; otherwise, it can also be translated as: "Both a small and large amount of wine are forbidden, and every intoxicating drink (is also forbidden)." In fact, this translation is more correct in terms of grammatical construction, especially since it conforms with other narrations reported from Abdullah ibn Abbas (radi Allahu anhu). For he not only considered intoxicating drinks forbidden, but even vessels in which there was a possibility of intoxication, as has been mentioned in previous narrations and will be mentioned ahead as well.
(2) "Did not hear"—that is, this narration is disconnected (munqati‘), and a disconnected narration is weak.
