´It was narrated from Abu Burdah bin Abi Musa, :` That his father used to say: "I do not see any difference between drinking Khamr and worshipping this column instead of Allah the Mighty and Sublime."

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) "I do not care"—that is, in my view, both these actions are equal, because by drinking wine (khamr), the intellect becomes impaired. A person, in this state, can also commit sins, even to the extent of shirk (associating partners with Allah). This is why wine has been called the "mother of all evils" (umm al-khaba’ith). Just as shirk wipes out all of a person's good deeds, similarly, a person who drinks wine gradually abandons all good deeds and begins to commit all kinds of sins. This does not mean that drinking wine is shirk or disbelief (kufr) itself; rather, only a comparison is intended, just as a mother says to her son, "This is my moon."

(2) "Other than Allah" or "besides Allah"—that is, along with worshipping Him, I would also worship the pillar, and both these situations are shirk and disbelief (kufr).
