Hadith 5533

´It was narrated that Abu Al-Yasar said:` "The Messenger of Allah [SAW] used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minat-taraddi, wal-hadmi, wal-gharaqi, wal-hariqi, wa a'udhu bika, an yatakhabbatanish-shaitanu 'indal-mawti, wa a'udhu bika an amuta fi sabilika mudbiran, wa a'udhu bika an amuta ladigha (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from being thrown from a high place or crushed beneath a falling wall, or drowning or being burned, and I seek refuge with You from being led astray by the Shaitan at the time of death, and I seek refuge with You from dying in Your cause while fleeing from the battlefield, and I seek refuge with You from dying of a scorpion sting.)'"

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Most of these are accidental deaths in which a person dies suddenly. There is no opportunity for the declaration of faith (kalimah) or repentance (tawbah), therefore these deaths are not good. Moreover, such deaths often disfigure a person’s appearance, which is obviously not a good thing; thus, seeking refuge from them is justified.

(2) Fleeing from the battlefield is a grave crime. Dying in such a state is a sinful death. This has been condemned in the Noble Qur’an.

(3) “Cause to lose composure” means to misguide, or not allow attention towards repentance (tawbah) and the declaration of faith (kalimah), or to cause mistrust in Allah Ta’ala, etc.

(4) “Falling” refers to falling from the sky, or from a mountain, or from the roof of a house, etc., where there is no possibility of survival.
