Hadith 5525

´It was narrated from 'Abdah bin Abi Lubabah that Ibn Yasaf told him that he asked 'Aishah, the wife of the Prophet [SAW], :` What supplication did the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say the most before he died? She said: "The supplication that he said the most was: 'Allahumma, inni a'udhu bika min sharri ma 'amiltu wa min sharri ma lam a'mal ba'd (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of what I have done, and from the evil of what I have not done yet.)'"

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Supplications of this kind are for the instruction of the Ummah or for the expression of one’s servitude, otherwise the occurrence of sins from you was not possible. The Prophets (alayhimussalam) are infallible (ma‘sum). Allah, the Exalted, protects them from sin.

(2) By “the evil of sins” is meant the punishment that has been prescribed for sins, i.e., “Forgive my sins.” The evil of future sins may also refer to their occurrence, i.e., that such sins do not occur from me at all, because no one knows what is decreed. And Allah knows best.

(3) “Sin” whether it is an act or an omission.
