Hadith 5491

´It was narrated from 'Uthman bin Abi Al-'As that:` The Prophet [SAW] used to say supplication in these words: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-kasali, walharami, wal-jubni, wal-'ajzi, wa min fitnatil-mahya wal-mamat. (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from laziness, old age, cowardice, and incapacity, and from the trials of life and death.)"

Brief Explanation
1؎: What is meant is such old age in which a person becomes completely helpless and incapacitated; this is what has been referred to as «ارذل العمر», in which a person even loses the ability to distinguish between good and bad. The ordinary old age that occurs at around sixty years of age—this was experienced by the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself (as well as many of the noble Companions), who used to supplicate with this prayer.
