Hadith 5293

´It was narrated from Anas that:` He saw a ring of silver on the hand of the Messenger of Allah [SAW] one day, and the people made and wore similar rings. Then the Prophet [SAW] threw his ring away and the people threw their rings away too.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
From the apparent wording of the narration, it seems that the ring which the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) removed and threw away was made of silver. However, this is not correct, because in all the other narrations it is explicitly stated that the ring which was thrown away was made of gold, not silver. The silver ring was made later. In this narration, this is an error (wahm) on the part of Imam Zuhri (rahimahullah). Making mistakes and falling into error is a characteristic of human nature. This is not something extraordinary. Therefore, the correct view is that the ring which was thrown away was made of gold, not silver. Such things can happen with the narrators of hadith. There is nothing to be alarmed or surprised about in this.
