Hadith 5224

´Umm Salamah, the wife of the Prophet [SAW], said:` "I heard the Messenger of Allah [SAW] say: 'The angels do not enter a house in which there is a small bell, or a bell, and the angels do not accompany groups of people who have bells with them.'"

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Bells are placed around the necks of animals, birds, and even children. Similarly, bells are also tied to the feet of animals, birds, and children, while large animals have bells hung around their necks. In addition, bells are rung in schools and churches as well. The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam described the sound of the bell as a satanic sound; therefore, if there is a necessity or compulsion, then there may be allowance for it. Without any valid reason, it is not permissible.

(2) By "angels" here, what is meant are the angels of mercy; otherwise, the guardian angels and the recording angels remain with a person at all times. Thus, in a place where there is a bell, instead of angels, there is the presence of Satan, and for this reason, the mercy of Allah Ta'ala is not found there.
