It was narrated from a man of Aslam, who was one of the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ), that they used to pray Maghrib with the Prophet (ﷺ),then they would go back to their families in the furthest part of Al-Madinah, shooting arrows and seeing where they landed. 1؎ : From this it is understood that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to perform the Maghrib prayer promptly; this is what is most virtuous. In some hadiths where delaying Maghrib until the disappearance of the twilight (shafaq) is mentioned, that is only to indicate permissibility.

521. Commentary:
➊ Just as this hadith indicates that the Maghrib prayer should be commenced immediately after the sun sets, it also shows that short surahs should be recited in the Maghrib prayer; otherwise, it may become dark while one is still praying.
➋ Here, what is meant is the actual city of Madinah, not the surrounding villages, because those were several miles away.
