´It was narrated from 'Arafah bin As'ad that:` His nose was cut off at the battle of Al-Kulab during the Jahiliyyah, so he wore a nose made of silver, but it began to rot, so the Prophet [SAW] told him to wear a nose made of gold.
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Silver becomes tarnished. There is usually moisture in the nose, so the silver became tarnished and moisture began to accumulate in it, which caused a bad smell. In contrast, gold is a very strong and fine metal. It does not tarnish so quickly and does not deteriorate, which is why the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) advised him to have a nose made of gold.
(2) It is understood from this that the use of gold as adornment is prohibited for men, but it is permissible in case of necessity. For example, if the teeth become loose, they can be fastened with a gold wire. Similarly, if there is any other necessity, there is no harm.
(3) "The Battle of Kilab": Kilab was the name of a well or a spring. In the pre-Islamic era, a fierce battle took place there, which became very famous.
