´It was narrated from 'Aishah that:` The Messenger of Allah [SAW] saw her wearing two bracelets of gold. The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: "Shall I not tell you of something that is better than this? Why don't you take these off and wear two bracelets of silver, and paint them yellow with saffron, and they will look fine.'"
Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah’s statement regarding this context being “unreliable” (ghayr mahfuz) is open to question. This hadith is authentic in its chain of transmission, therefore there is no reason for it to be considered unreliable. And Allah knows best.
(2) Gold is a very precious thing. To keep something of such value merely for adornment is not a good practice, especially when Allah Ta’ala has created it for trade. As for adornment, that can also be achieved from its color, and moreover, there is a strong likelihood of ostentation and pride in displaying gold jewelry. Therefore, despite its permissibility, abstention is better, especially for people of knowledge and virtue.
