Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
(1) From this hadith, it is understood that for a woman to go out of her house wearing perfume is, according to the Shari‘ah, forbidden. Yet today’s woman, drenched in fragrance, goes to offices and participates in various mixed gatherings and events, and in this very state, she frequents different shopping centers as well. *Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘un.* Far removed from religion and Shari‘ah, unfamiliar with the sweetness of faith, enamored with Western culture, and deprived of the blessings of a Sunnah-based life, today’s so-called “enlightened” woman, obsessed with becoming the center of attention, in reality lives in darkness and gloom. She not only participates in mixed gatherings but becomes their adornment, strives to become their life and soul, and then, not only she but her shameless and honorless relatives—father, husband, brother, etc.—openly take pride in this waywardness. Have these men and women ever thought about what face they will present before their Lord on the Day of Judgment? And after living such a life in opposition to the Prophet, will they be deserving of the intercession of the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) upon departing from this world? May Allah the Most Generous grant all of us understanding of His firm religion and the ability to act upon it. Ameen.
(2) This blessed hadith also indicates that whatever becomes a cause for something else, the ruling for that causative thing is the same as the original thing itself. Just as the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) declared such a woman to be an adulteress and immoral who goes out of her house wearing perfume and causes men to fall into temptation. This is because the fragrance emanating from a woman’s body incites men to look at her; thus, when they look at a non-mahram woman, this becomes the adultery of the eyes. The woman is called an adulteress because she becomes the cause of this, so the same ruling is applied to the woman who becomes the cause as is applied to the original act.
(3) “She is an immoral woman”—that is, this is a sign of an immoral and adulterous woman, that she displays her adornment before people so that they may be attracted to her. Or it is an indication that her end will be immorality; ultimately, she will become an adulteress.
