´Ibrahim bin Jarir narrated that his father said:` "I was with the Prophet (ﷺ) and he went to Al Khala' (toilet) and relieved himself, then he said: "O Jarir, bring Tahur (a means of purification)." So I brought him some water and he performed Intinja' with water, and did like this with hand, rubbing it on the ground. Abu 'Abdur-Rahman (An-Nasa'i) said: "This resembles more with what is correct than the (previous) narration of Sharik, and Allah knows best."

51. Commentary:
➊ The narration of Sharik refers to the previous narration (50), which Sharik has attributed to Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu, whereas this narration is actually from Aban. Aban has narrated this from Jarir radi Allahu anhu, while the intention of the Imam is that this narration should be from Jarir radi Allahu anhu instead of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu. However, in this case, the narration becomes disconnected (munqati‘), because according to the decision of the hadith scholars, it is not established that Aban’s teacher, Ibrahim ibn Jarir, heard from his father, Jarir radi Allahu anhu. From this, it is understood that when Imam Nasa’i rahimahullah says this narration is more authentic, his intention is not that the narration is authentic (sahih), but rather that the mention of Jarir radi Allahu anhu instead of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu is correct in this narration. Some hadith scholars have declared both narrations to be authentic, meaning this narration is transmitted from both Jarir and Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhum, because Sharik is not inferior to Aban in terms of retention and accuracy; rather, Imam Muslim has included Sharik’s narrations in Sahih Muslim. And Allah knows best.
➋ “Qala Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman” — This statement could itself be from Imam Nasa’i rahimahullah, meaning he mentioned himself in the third person using his kunyah, and it is also possible that it is the statement of his student, Shaykh Ibn Sunni. The first view is more likely. And Allah knows best.
