Explanation & Benefits

English Translation:
It is permissible for a woman to adorn and beautify herself, provided that there is no unnecessary affectation involved. For example: she may bathe, apply kohl, use oil and perfume, apply rouge and henna (for her husband), and wear jewelry. However, unnecessary affectation is prohibited, some forms of which have been mentioned in the previous hadith. Similarly, attaching additional hair to her natural hair in order to give the appearance of greater volume or length—when there is no real need for such long or abundant hair—is also prohibited. Moreover, this involves deception, because the hair is attached in such a way that it appears as if the natural hair itself is that long. However, it is permissible to use a hair-tie (paranda) to keep the hair in place, whether it is small or large, because it is made from threads and the like. There is no fabrication or deception in this. Unnecessary affectation is done to attract men, which leads to the spread of adultery (zina), and this is a cause of the destruction and ruin of nations.
